JP Saxe: I Need a Therapist

TW: addiction, grief and loss
Your hosts are both massive fans of this week’s guest, musician and singer JP Saxe. The episode is full of energy and insight, as JP starts off by inquiring if the Lautners find navigating enmeshment more challenging by their shared name. The three then dive into love and conflict languages and the importance of being malleable to your partners’ styles. JP talks about his childhood, including the blessings he’s discovered from not being popular at a young age and his journey of defining masculinity in his own terms. Taylor also opens up about the struggles he faced when playing Jacob and the pressure he felt to portray a perfect life. The three then discuss feelings of being a burden to your partner, bullying, and being an only child-something girl Tay and JP have in common! JP opens up about growing up in a house suffering from addiction, and explains his journey with loss and grief to Taylor, who has not yet experienced any sort of family loss. He also shares the series of decisions that made him realize it was time to start therapy and the role songwriting has played in his healing journey.

I think this is one of the most valuable podcasts online. For the first time people aren't capitalizing on their trauma, but making it "normal" to discuss it for the purpose of healing and not wallowing in it. People forget that actors/celebrities are PEOPLE with real problems. I lost my dad 4 years ago, and goodness, it comes in waves for sure. I wasn't an only child but gapped in the middle, so at time it feels like I am. Thanks for your time, effort, and genuine love for people. This is easily in my top 3 podcasts! Your collaboration with the people you bring on makes me interested every week! Never a dull moment, and always valuable and entertaining.

I loved the way that JP talked about his masculinity and that it’s okay to be vulnerable, sensitive, soft, emotional but yet still be masculine. That it doesn’t have to be one or the other. Also, Hillary duff was my first concert too ❤️

I have watched this and listened to it. When he talks about grief and how he had to make himself grieve, I can’t help but just cry and cry. I have been through a lot of grief the past three years and I need to deal with it. Thank you for inspiring me.

I was not sure how to feel going into this podcast because I’m not familiar with JP Saxe. However, I’ve finished the podcast with a whole page of notes and insightful info that’s I’ve already shared with a few friends. What an incredible episode. Which is what I love about The Squeeze. Half of your episodes I have been unfamiliar with the guest. But I leave every single episode with something to value and always wanting more. You guys are doing amazing things. Thank you Tays!

Love JP! I completely relate on the delayed grief. Years later, it is very hard to resurface the feelings and work through them. It feels like everyone has left the party and turned the lights off, but you are still sitting their trying to go through it. You will get there, it is a journey. ❤️🙏🏼

Small world! My husband is a Mental Health Counselor and is an EMDR provider. He speaks very highly of the benefits of EMDR. I’m sure it will be a great experience for you both. If I’m being honest, I think we could all benefit from some counseling…especially in the world we live in now. I’m so glad that I came across your podcast channel. Your energy and inflection is very calm and soothing. This episode was very cathartic. Thank you! Keep up the great work!

Your podcasts make me so happy 😭 JP Saxe was a great guest and so insightful and I appreciate how y’all are willing to be open about your struggles and how you make it work. Very refreshing to see most couple in Hollywood who just be fake and pretend everything is perfect all the time. So real and amazing 🥰🥰

Literally. I love them both so much but omg, when people ask how boy tay could end up with a “normal person” all you have to do is listen to this podcast to see why he fell for her. She seems like one of the sweetest people I’ve ever seen.

I have to start by saying I've been a Boy Tay fan since Shark Boy. Recently I came across Girl Tay, and you (Girl Tay) are the reason I started watching The Squeeze and its been a bit life changing to put it lightly. You are both real and wonderful and a breath of fresh air to the internet. Also, at this moment in life I am very jealous of Boy Tays four grandparents! I have no grandparents, and I lost my mother to cancer when I was 25 so this episode was a ride, but a little more healing. Great job everyone!

I hope it’s okay to give constructive criticism. While I love this podcast, I think that the thumbnails are too busy and not intriguing. Maybe make them simpler with a different font. The speaking pace is also quite slow. I find myself putting your videos on 1.5x speed. I do love the content and topics though so keep up the great work! 🍋💛
