Kevin DeYoung: Do Not Love the World

The Apostle John warns us not to love the world, and our fallen tendency to view the world as an ultimate end in itself means that we must fight against our dark inclinations to set our hearts on this age and its pleasures. But God created the world to glorify Himself, and as we make Him our ultimate end, we can identify the sins that manifest our love for the world and enjoy the Lord’s creation in an appropriate way. Rev. Kevin DeYoung calls on the Lord to restore us to a high view of the world as the arena of God’s glory, and he describes how Christians, in pursuing the light of God, can identify and fight against sin in the world while loving our enemies and blessing those who curse us.

1st john is talking about how to live the Christian life after we are saved. It's about fellowship with God, not about whether someone is saved. Salvation is not about how much we love God. It is about how much God loves us. As they pertain to salvation, commandments or law is to make a realize we cannot keep them, at least not to God's standard. So then see our need for forgiveness through Jesus sacrifice for us.

What I've never understood when growing up as a member of the cult of Jehovah's witnesses, thankfully,I've realized they are wrong, but why do most Christians wear suits if they are talking about not being like the world, when the most evil people in the world wear them, even so much that the saying goes, never trust a man in a suit.when you may get judged if you wear a leather jacket and long hair.it must mean something different, more of the heart than what you wear.

Knowing that, I'm reluctant to throw everything in the ring and say that DeYoung isn't mixed up in the Social Gospel, etc. All I know is that what I've heard/read of him to this point has been faithful. Yet, if he is still involved with TGC that is worth a step of caution. However, I don't want to throw out the baby with the bathwater. 28:30 .. this is the way of the most dangerous false prophets . They preach the convicting scriptures but in very subtle ways, by their example, redefine in the conscience of their listeners the real standard that the scripture they preach sets ( as manifest in the life of Christ and His Apostles). They heal the hurt of His people slightly, your sport is an abomination to God there is no legitimate reason to watch it, it will not exist after the return of Christ BECAUSE He will remove ALL things that offend. The takeaway.. Watching a little bit of sport is not what those scripture speak against when it says love not the world and is “justified” .

He spoke so serious, and it was so enlightening that I looked him up in here but I wasn’t expecting him to give a sermon almost like a comedy show…not what I was looking for either.
