    This model does an excellent job of cleaning clothes. I had this model. I bought it new and gave it to my mother. She needed a new washer desperately. She loved it. I wish that I had a Speed Queen today.

    New washers work just as well while using less of everything and some are made in the USA. Now, will a new washer outlast the old? Probably not, but 10 years the new ones last on average is ok.

    Those solid-tub Speed Queen washers were the very BEST! We had one of those with a stainless-steel tub (extra-large capacity) & it was built like a tank! Did a great job of cleaning very dirty laundry! Many people in our family had the solid-tub SQ washer. Regrettable that they stopped manufacturing those solid-tub SQ washers! Why did Speed Queen stop making that design of washing-machine... does anyone know?

  • @TedsGMC

    @TedsGMC

    Yes! When Raytheon bought Speed Queen in 1978 Raytheon had redesigned the washer to meet energy saving standards at the time and and also the new design also better safety standards which has "insta-matic" brakes that stop the washer when the lid is opened during operation and if it is spinning the tub comes to a complete "dead" stop in less than 3 seconds as opposed to a locking lid that at the time did meet 1971 U.L. safety standards, but unless the "safety" system was maintained it was NOT "FOOL-PROFF" and the lawsuits that Speed Queen had gotten due to injury lawsuits cost McGraw-Edison and McGraw-Edison sold Speed Queen and in 1979 the "new" Speed Queen's were Raytheon designed machines. Speed Queen just like any manufacture of a "product" is NOT IMMUNE for potential liability lawsuits. The same that had happened with Westinghouse and Westinghouse sold there appliance business to White Consolidated in 1976. General Motors sold off Frigidaire to WCI in 1978 as well. Also, McGraw-Edison at the time was selling off there business and by 1982 McGraw-Edison was out of business. But look on the "bright" side a 40+ year old Speed Queen washer and dryer you CAN STILL get some replacement parts for these machines today(2021)

  • @patcola7335

    @patcola7335

    Whirlpool was the first all the way back to the late 1940s with perf tub top load washers. Their first automatic was released in 1947 through Sears Kenmore. Much better at grit and sand and debris removal. Also the neutral drain kept clothes in the tub and didn't redeposit lint on the load like a spin drain could when it throws the water back onto the clothes while spinning. GE and Maytag did that to some degree.

    @@Sharkie626 for 2020, Alliance Laundry decided to bring back the 2018 series in the TR7, 5, and 3 series. They make 1 classic model, the TC5, which has the agitation of the 2017 series. I only found out about the crappy series being brought back, because Kirk Rivas tested a TR5 series. So Speed Queen didn't learn their lesson, and trying to otherwise force the TR series on customers by limiting choice on theTC series. For front loaders, they make one model now

    Bleach???? .....are you insane? .....who uses bleach on clothes in the washing machine. Haven't you heard of 'Vanish' - it's a clothes specific stain remover that comes in liquid, gel or dry stick format (similar to a dry stick deodorant). Everyone uses this in the UK to get tough stains out of their clothes before washing them. You can get a type for wine, another type for grease from bike chains, one for ketchup etc. You don't need to wet the clothes first either, as they can be put on dry clothes, and then popped in the machine. Do they not have Vanish in the US?
