Kenyan President Ruto dismisses most members of his cabinet after weeks of protests
Kenya’s President William Ruto has sacked nearly all of his cabinet ministers.
He has promised to form a new government that will be lean and efficient following weeks of deadly protests over high taxes and poor governance.
Ruto has cancelled the proposed tax increases, but demonstrations have continued, calling for him to resign.
Al Jazeera’s Malcolm Webb joins us now on the line from Nairobi, Kenya's capital. Stella Agara, an Africa Governance and Security Analyst and tax reform campaigner, also joins us from Nairobi to discuss this.

I wish our president could have kept off the independent offices of the ODPP, DCI and not meddle with our Judiciary. All would have gone on well. It was his interference that caused his downfall. one cannot run a country like a running a village of illiterates in a desert. It was bound to fail at some point.

Whether it is to appease the masses or to save his own skin, the president has made a move never seen before in Kenyan politics. Also, there are those in government that were openly contradicting the president, he just had to look for an opportunity to kick them out and the protest was the best opportunity so far.

Ruto is possibly the mentally weakest president we have had since independence. Even Moi the primary school drop out had better decisiveness than Ruto
