Will the unrest in Kenya escalate? | Inside Story

It all started with peaceful protests against a finance bill tabled in Kenya's parliament.
The proposed legislation includes tax increases to raise extra funds the government says it needs to pay off public debt.
The protests intensified, crowds stormed the parliament compound and the military was deployed.
Security forces used live rounds, killing and injuring many.
A defiant President William Ruto called the demonstrations treasonous, and promised to take a tough stance on what he called anarchy.
So, will the unrest be contained?

The politicians adorn in expensive attires, shoes, watches, and so to their families. They are running all businesses with the government, people pay taxes, as the sane is just misappriopriated. Road construction works are now by special persons in good books with the president n leader of government. KPLC is controlled by Ndindi Nyoro one crony to the president. There is constant power outraged in Kenya. People pay for electricity, yet the money is shared as if the KPLC dams don't require maintenance. We experienced in 1980s, former President Daniel Arap Moi, collapsed all parastals. Today, no parastals nor individual managed institutions that replaced the parastals. The same politicians including the speaker Wetangula, and Prime cabinet minister M.Mudavadi, looted the assets. People get tired to see the President entourage to the western world, week after week. IMF & World Bank releasing money when citizens are complaining. Doctors are poorly remuneration, hospitals lack just the basics. People are upset ,angry to be governed by thugs who are darlings of the Western countries both making life too hard for all Kenyans. We have adult kids as old as 45 years and are jobless. The destruction in the country is great. Governors are not delivering. They embezzle public funds with their families who work together. There is no accountability. We understand, there are forces against the candidate to Presidency Kenyans prefer. Why should external forces drive decisions for Kenyans. Why are elections never free and fair. Why are Venezuelans masterminds of Kenyas elections? Why would Kenya have an Embassy in Venezuela? Kenyans wish to know why Western countries allow economic hitmen to operate as if for their countries and cause mayhem destroying economies of the world. I have read some of the comments or voices as spoken by Kenyans, hence noting for all to read. With benefit of doubt. The leaders all have wives and mistresses at the expense of poor Kenyans paying taxes.

Kenyan politics has always been about dividing citizens along tribal lines. We are a 60yr old republic and older people are completely unable to think past 'our person' politics. Gen Z and other young people have broken this barrier. We have to fix this nation and rid it of CORRUPTION and POWER ABUSE. I dream of a Kenya where public officials are terrified of misappropriating public resources because they know there are REAL consequences.

The Ruto government bears significant responsibility for the deaths and injuries during the recent protests in Kenya over the proposed finance bill: President Ruto acknowledged the "unfortunate situation" and said at least 22 people were killed and 200 wounded during the protests. Amnesty International placed accountability for the tragic events on President Ruto, condemning the loss of lives during the protests and emphasizing the need for responsible leadership. Ruto had vowed to "quash unrest at whatever cost" and deployed the military, which the High Court later ordered suspended. The deputy president blamed the intelligence agency for failing to inform the government of the public sentiment, suggesting a lack of preparedness and understanding of the situation. The people of Kenya should immediately overthrow the Ruto government. The protests led Ruto to ultimately withdraw the controversial finance bill, which appears to be a concession to the public demands. The next government should focus on addressing the underlying issues through dialogue and reforms as Ruto has not indicated.

If the Finance Bill is cumulation of the socio-economic situation in the country and their neglect by previous government and their leadership, why did President Ruto and his team not trace this and avoided what we have just witnessed? These deaths of those youths was totally unnecessary? If the Presudent does molesten to his people, to whom should he listen? I am very disturbed that to this day an African leader can be so deaf to his own people. May The Souls of The Departed Ones Rest In Perfect Peace 🕯⚘.
