T3 was one of the roughest coasters ever built by Vekoma. It was a prototype suspended coaster. Would leave you bruised and battered after riding it. As a kid it was fun rode it 15 times in a row one day. But later years could not even get myself to ride it.

Kentucky Kingdom first opened in 1987, though the state fair board started talking about it in 77. I went during the opening season with my grandparents. My sweet grandma thought at 9 I was too young for every ride by the carousel.

Fabulously managed the youngsters! Clearly they were familiar with vlogging and they felt it easy to speak to you and to draw attention to themselves for their time of fame. I recall your lake stroll video and so communications are a chore in certain situations. You were great. The kids rambunctious excitement added to the spontaneity of the video and entertainment value. Well played! Without a doubt this was fun stuff… in the bag!

So T3 was a fun ride for the most part... the reason it is so hated is because the restraint on the coaster was an overhead vest style restraint. The amount of headaches you would get on the ride was crazy from the inversions and constant shaking from the ride due to it being older. I personally loved it but i liked coasters as a kid.

Originally in the 80s, Kentucky Kingdom was the smaller, original side of the park on the Kentucky Exposition Center property. When the park expanded in the 90's, until now it went across "The Road" (Circle of Champions) which beltways the entire property.

  • @kungfury6410

That front splash guard/window on the log ride was added because of my cousin. Back in the 90's she was standing in front of the glass that you were behind (there wasn't a front glass section), and the force of the water threw her through what is now the back glass. She had glass all in her legs and arms and needed several surgeries. I hadn't thought of that in a long time, but your video brought back a lot of memories :)

6:27 This ride’s name was an Easter egg for my dad who was the director of marketing for the park in the 90’s and also during the reopening around 2014. He, a few other Kentucky Kingdom alumni, and myself all created the Save My Park project to get the park reopened after Six Flags closed its doors. I love the flying dutchman so much its so silly and fun Also i was surprised when they chose to bring a second drop tower back to the park after the superman incident. But that was Six Flags fault really. I hope they add more to the park, i went when it was Six flags all the time and it had a strong decline even before the accident due to their management. Since the owners are now the Dollywood people i hope to see a ton of love poured into the park. It needs new theming centered around Kentucky as a whole

So happy you got to visit my home park! 25:58 T3 was... interesting. It was a prototype of its kind, the second ever built by Dutch manufacturer Vekoma. It was notorious for being a veeery turbulent roller coaster, which stayed true throughout its life. Really robotic transitions at high speeds meant it jostled your body around a lot very hard during the ride. Some tolerated its intensity (like me), many others vowed never to ride it again. Safe to say it had a good run since the 90's, but not many will miss it. 😅

This place was my place to go during the summers when I was a teenager. It certainly has changed a lot (and for the better) over the years. Plenty of fond memories and friends made there. Also, just an FYI, it's not a public road any longer. KY Kingdom used to be just on the entrance side and stop at that road. When they expanded, they built Hurricane Bay and a few other rides on the other side of the road and then it was no longer a public road. However, they were separated into two different parks. They had different parking areas and different tickets. A couple of years go by and then they joined them together and built quite a few more thrilling rides. If the rides Chang and Vampire were still there you'd want to ride them. There are other videos on YT if you want to research them. I hope you had fun in my hometown!

Jacob-this is a long comment, but I hope you read it, because I have a lot of cool memories to share with you, and hopefully it'll answer some of your questions, too. This is the most awesome video you've put out yet! Louisville is my hometown, and Kentucky Kingdom (we always just called it KK) is my home park! SO cool to see you there! I practically grew up there, and had a pass every year from about 1992 on, until I grew up and moved away. In fact, I still have one of my old passes from circa 92/94, when it was laminated paper, and was a combination KK/Louisville Zoo pass. Mom would take us, when we were younger (I was around 12 or 14), and we'd come in through the Hurricane Bay entrance. Back then, everything to the left of the wave pool was a big gravel parking lot. She'd tell us what time to meet back with her, and then she would stay in Hurricane Bay by the wave pool, laying out (and yes, the gong means the waves are gonna start, so it's your signal to get out of, or into, the pool, depending on your preference, lol), while we ran the park. Those sure were different times, lol. It was safe, clean, fun, and family friendly (and it still is, but I'm still not sure I'd let my own kid roam on his own, lol). Well, except for the Sucks Flags years-which may be where the aqua park thing came from, because I sure don't remember it-but we Louisvillians don't talk about those years. The Breakdance was always one of my favorite rides. It's probably been there at least 30 years. As have the merry-go-round, the pirate ship, the Tin Lizzies (the Model-T car ride), the Ferris Wheel, and of course Thunder Run, our award winning crown jewel. Almost since the beginning. The 5D theater building used to house a dark ride roller coaster names the Star Chaser. I loved it. But some people got hurt, when one car rear ended another-it turned out to be operator error, IIRC-and it was taken out not long after. There used to be an Enterprise ride right next to the Star Chaser building, I think where the Scream Extreme is now. Behind the Breakdance, next to the pirate ship, (was relaced for a while with a stupid Wild Mouse coaster, don't know what's there now) there was a roller coaster called the Vampire, and it was the first coaster I ever rode, the one that really started my love of thrill rides. There was a top spin ride called the Quake, I think where those two waterslides now are. It was awesome. And I think the Eye of the Storm used to be the Top Eliminator Dragsters, a drag racing ride, but it was more recent, and wasn't open long. The Flying Dutchman and the blimp kiddie ride have been around for ages, and Mile High Falls (the flume ride) and the Roller Skater have been around for quite a while, too. The footbridge has been there almost since the beginning, but the ground-level pedestrian crossing is much newer. That road, by the way, used to be-and still often is, by us locals-called Ring Road, and it encircles the Fairgrounds, and has various access point in and out. More recently, it was renamed the Circle of Champions. For whatever that's worth, lol. I don't remember the live music in Hurricane Bay, but I DO recall them constantly playing "California Dreamin'" by the Mamas and the Papas on the loudspeakers, lol. We used to have a stand-up coaster, too, called Chang. But Sucks Flags took it-and again, we don't talk about them. Lol. T3 had been around for years, as well. I remember riding it back when it was called T2. That stood for Terror to the 2nd (or 3rd) Power, BTW. It WAS a rough ride. I came off it with a few headaches myself. But I still loved it, and I was very sad when I learned they were getting rid of it. And that aside, Thunder Run is much rougher-as wooden coasters often are, IF you don't know how to ride them right-but it's absolutely beloved. I love it, too-though I'm not sure how well my old body would love it now, lol. More recently, there used to be another wooden coaster, Twisted Sisters, later renamed Twisted Twins, that had dueling coasters, at one time a front-facing one and a backward-facing one, where the Storm Chaser stands. The drop tower you saw, replaced the old drop tower, the Hellevator, renamed the Superman: Tower of Power by Sucks Flags, on which a teenaged girl was very badly injured, and sadly lost one leg, below the knee (it's a very well known accident, so you can google it if you want, but I won't dwell on it here-it was during the SF years, and also this comment is WAY too long already, lol). And yes, there is a King Louie walkaround mascot, but I guess he's only around during certain times. Also, Herschend does run KK now. But you didn't mention how, after Sucks Flags abandoned it, and left it to rot for several years, it was saved by a huge community effort, and by Ed Hart, the Louisville businessman who really started it all, way back in the beginning. The park itself did not open in 77, that's when plans were announced. Construction didn't begin until 86, and the park opened in 87. Then it went bankrupt, like you said, but Hart swooped in-despite initially declining-and had it up and running, and successful, in 1990. And he brought it back, forming the Kentucky Kingdom Redevelopment Company in 2010 and finally, after several false starts-some involving other companies-and a lot of uncertainty, securing $28.5 million from investors, plus an additional $1 million per year for upgrades, and reopening the park for business in 2014. Some of that came from his own pocket. The park was, some say, his baby, and he never gave up on it. He's a hometown hero. Herschend only came on board in 2021, and they are a majority partner, but Mr. Hart IS still there behind the scenes, and he's still a part of things. Oh, and I feel like that globe you saw at the end MIGHT have sat atop the fountain at the entrance, at one point, but I could be wrong about that. Anyway, I'm sorry this was so long, but your video brought back so many wonderful memories of my childhood and young adulthood. I'd love to go back to KK. But I live almost an hour away now. And $150 or more for a one-day family outing is just out of reach for me right now, unfortunately. But you let me live it vicariously, and for that, Sir, I thank you. 😊

Your in my neck of the woods this time. I've lived within 15 mins of KY Kingdom my entire life. Used to get the season passes every year in high school back in the mid 90s up until around 2000 or so. Personally I think it was the best ran and most fun when it was a Six Flags but overall it hasn't changed much. Yes the part across the street was an expansion. The drop tower used to be called Hellavator and was the largest in the US for a short time. Alot of fun memories in that place for sure.

I worked here when it was owned by Six Flags. It's one of those parks that no matter how much it changes, it's still the same. That can be both good and bad. I'm glad to see you take the time to do a video on it. Fun fact: The park's proximity to the Louisville Airport places height restrictions on how tall the rides/coasters can be so for people who are good for anything under 200' this is a park you can fully enjoy.

It had been 22 years since I've been to Kentucky Kingdom. I do remember the T3 roller coaster. Not sure why it closed down. I thought it was a pretty cool ride. I also remember riding the huge ferris wheel . That was awesome. Also the Himalayan ride and may favorite was the water ride. A lot has changed since the last time I was there. Thank you for visiting this park and taking us along. ☺️

T-3 used to be called the Vampire when it first opened. That weird loop back curve in the middle that looks kind of like a bowtie. the ride used to get stuck all the time there and people had to be rescued. Was very frequent.

One correction, it actually first opened in 1987, not 1977. It was built around the fairgrounds that was already established in the city, so they had to work with the small area they had, thus the reason the park goes over the street. It isn’t actually a public street though, just the street that circles inside the fairgrounds.

Part of the joy of a theme park is experiencing it with other people. It's something that carpetbaggers videos show really well. The kids were fine. I I wish you well and hope you have experiences with people you actually enjoy. Art is only art when other people experience it.

i agree. the kids ' behavior was inappropriate. I'm disturbed that so many people think that kinda thing is ok and are actively encouraging the teens to act like that. Not cool. Theme park or not, they have to respect other people's spaces & Jacob looked sincerely unsure of how to respond--it's just not a cool situation. And I'm a 35 year old so def not an old fogey. But I would not want my teen son to do that to someone and I would not praise him if he did. Respect is a 2 way street.

When I was here in the year 2001 the ride was called T2, and I still think it was a Six Flags Property then. We thought it was a nod to Terminator at the time but we did ride it. I remember my safety harness didn't go down very far and the other attendant still let me go. When I came to the first drop I remember falling forward against the safety harness and hanging on. I still enjoyed the ride but I wouldn't call it my favorite.

It’s a rollercoaster where your feet dangle. T3 has had several injuries including myself. It’s been shut down a lot. The top piece unlocked and I was slung around. Thankfully… I survived by holding on really tight. The park did not take the report seriously when I went to the medical station. 😅

I operated the large carousel, thunder run, roller skater, flying dutchman, and mile high falls. Roller skater was the worst by far because if you didn't push a specific button at a specific time when the train was coming back to you, it would lock up on the guests and you'd have to call maintenance lol. It was the most fun ride for being able to check your phone and to just be alone and out of sight (obviously when nobody was around or traffic was pretty much dead, this was years ago). Similar issue with the log flume but you at least had people working with you over there and weren't stuck waiting for help by yourself and trying to placate angry patrons.
