Lately I've been watching replays of the 96 and 98 teams to make sure of what I'm seeing. The big difference between those teams and Cal's teams is that Cal's Cats had glass jaws. They were mostly brittle to the touch. When everything was going their way, they dominated. As soon as an opponent played any defense at all, they would break apart. The 96 and 98 teams were more like Marciano. They could just pummel you and no matter how hard you hit them, they'd hit you back harder. You could never count them out of a game because they would put a run together, lock down on defense, get 50/50 balls and hit the boards. Cal's teams were all wearing bathrobes at the pool next to fat chicks talking about how great skin is all about exfoliating and moisturizing. Night and day difference. Men vs. .... well I don't know whats. That isn't to say there weren't great players but there was almost never a team with a purpose and pride under Cal. God speed you Mark, I look forward to seeing what you do with the team.

Unfortunately being soft is encouraged in basketball nowadays, Flopping and ignorant refs have become part of the game. Kids cant even show PASSION and competitiveness without getting called for some bullcrap

I look forward to the day we talk less about Cal. I understand it and am thankful for his time at UK, but when the season starts, I’m hopeful it lessons. And I know we play Arkansas and that they’re in the SEC, but enough.

I don’t think that will happen immediately, but I hope I’m wrong about that. I think it is possible that Pope fields a first Kentucky team roughly similar to Coach Pitino’s 1992 team The Unforgettables.

I think eventually Coach Pope will bring in his own version of the 1995-96 Cats. His system at BYU, which he is bringing to Kentucky, is essentially Coach Pitino’s system during his tenure with Kentucky.

Nobody show cases players better than Kentucky with their immense fan base and connections to pro scouts. Pope, with Rick Pitino's classic training, is the perfect home for a player with Chaz Lanier's talents.
