Johnny Casserole I’m struggling to see the resemblance to The Cure, Mr. Boomer. My parents played them while I was growing up and my dads friend thought he was weird for enjoying a supposedly girly band. I don’t see how this is anywhere close to The Cure, especially with the 21st century synthesizers...
@fsdaft16
4 жыл бұрын
The Casualties are fun but definitely not post-punk, more of a street punk/hardcore. Post-punk had also died by the time to Casualties came around, hence the 'revival' in the late 90s-early 00s by bands like Bloc Party. I do agree it's very Cure-influenced but I'll clarify below. Just my .02 of course.
@fsdaft16
4 жыл бұрын
I think the biggest resemblance is in the song structure and the style overall - take a listen to something like 'Age of Consent' and I think you might agree. When I first heard this, I immediately thought of the Cure and still do, after many listens.

Gordon Welsh “The Cure” influenced is so general I don’t see the point of making the connection it’s like pointing out how all pop music after “The Beatles” is Beatle-Influenced. A bit too general and not based in music theory and culture in an objective way. Can you elaborate further?

Listening to this type of upbeat music helps me keep moving and dealing with my ADHD.
I played this on the jukebox at my local bar haha. People loved it cause it was "dancey" as hell but also totally rocked the floors :D
I've been jumping around air guitaring/air drumming in my underwear to this song. You're the bomb dude!

What a completely amazing track.This kid is cooler than a polar bear's feet. So refreshing to see a handsome, young, black musician exploring style and subject freely, on his own. This is what artistic courage looks like these days. He followed the song that he heard in his guts, without becoming obscured by some obnoxious and stereotypical sub-genre. Whoever Kenny Hoopla is, I like this guy.

Yeah, it definitiely has a strong Silent Alarm phase Bloc Party vibe to it, but more raw and with more punk. I love it.
How am I just now finding this? How? This is so amazing.
this is honestly the best thing i've heard in like... 5 years. this is so amazingly good. it gots everything i love, that perfectly raspy voice, that loud bass and catchy guitar. i am amazed this is so good
HERE'S THE LYRICS : She's gonna cut my head off But I don't care, I don't care She's gonna cut my head off But I don't care They say, "You clean up nice You look a dead man Like a dead ma" She say, "You dress up nice" I feel like a dead man A dead man Culture is so claustrophobic Claws to prove it hurts so good And the party's over I'm still on your couch now, love Yeah, if there is a line, I know you won't cross it Take your time (Take your time) But I might die (But I might die) She's gonna cut my head off But I don't care, I don't care She's gonna cut my head off But I don't care They say, "You clean up nice Just like a dead man Like a dead ma" She say, "You dress up nice" I feel like a dead man A dead man How can I rest in peace if I'm buried by a highway? Pain on the keys, is everybody still breathing? Weight of my shadow, it gets more heavy And it scares me, yeah The cherub's a scar (Yeah, yeah, yeah) It's when the hearts collide (Yeah, yeah, yeah) Speeding with no drive (Yeah, yeah, yeah) Just let the lie expire (Yeah, yeah, yeah) You say you know that it's fine (Yeah, yeah, yeah) I say I know that it's fine (Yeah, yeah, yeah) You said it's only a fire (Yeah, yeah, yeah) I think it's more than a fire She's gonna cut my head off But I don't care, I don't care She's gonna cut my head off But I don't care They say, "You clean up nice (nice) Just like a dead man Like a dead man" She say, "You dress up nice" (nice) I feel like a dead man A dead man She's gonna cut my head off But I don't care, I don't care She's gonna cut my head off But I don't care They say, "You clean up nice (nice) Just like a dead man Like a dead man" She say, "You dress up nice" (nice) I feel like a dead man A dead man

41 years old and loving this, makes me want to be young again. Misco is crap these days and then I find this and my faith is restored!
I just want to point out the sheer perfection that this videoclip is. That outro with the guitar riff and the slow dancing at a graveyard covered in snow at the end is pure art
