In this SAG interview, Sir Ken practically interviews himself for two hours. His crisp, warm words roll off his tongue in ardent delight. He is humble, confident, witty, cheeky, intelligent, fascinating, bold, charismatic, and effervescent about his love for acting, theatre, film, helming an honest, authentic set, (anger and frustration are okay, but being cagey or manipulative are not). Branagh found his calling at a young age and is a courageous actor who is deeply affected by the humanity in stories, moved to tears by the mystical nature of Shakespeare when the muse pays a visit. He shares a treasure trove of tales about British acting royalty, including some spot on imitations of a kittenish Sir Lawrence Olivier. Kenneth Branagh is my favorite actor, a primary influence in my life, and a former pen pal. I have seen him speak several times in person. The friend I saw him with last time referred me to this video. I highly recommend it.

What a lovely tribute. I saw the 23 year old Branagh play Henry V at Stratford and it was one of the high points in my life of theatre-going. I have followed the path of his career ever since. He is such a credit to the acting profession, always generous, funny and hugely likable.

Wonderful interview, and such a good relationship between Branagh and Riley. I get the feeling that Sir K is doing some of that acting without showing it that he admires so much. It's as if he's heard all these questions before and he has worked out the very best way to present the answers. It's wonderful that it keeps him from being flippant, or going off track. And so honest too, because if I'm right, he's thought out what his truth is and he's so able to present it confidentally.

I am not a native english speaker by birth. One major influence that lead me to being a real admirer of (british) english literature and theatre (Shakespeare and Wilde in particular) was the work of Sir Kennth Branagh. When I saw his movie Henry V for the first time, literately by chance, almost 20 years ago, I was dumbstruck by the beauty of the language and delivery. I hardly understood anything of what was going on back then, but it was beautiful to watch and listen. I have never seen or met him in person, but his joy of playing with the language comes very much across even in this interview. I haven't seen or heard much of his work over the last couple of years, so it was like meeting an old friend when I stumbled across this interview.

the UK government should think about this for a moment - the UK would not have Kenneth Branagh to boast about if the government hadn't paid for his tuition and maintenance as a student. what they're doing as the moment is making sure that a lot of great talent never becomes known.

UK shouldn't have "had him" in the 1st place. He was born on the island of Ireland. The part, referred to as Northern Ireland, still a colony of Britain to this day.

There is an error in the beginning. She says Oscar winning script for Henry V. Branagh doesn't have an Oscar. He wrote the film as well as direct and star in it, but was nominated for Best Actor and Best Director, for that film. I feel he should have two Oscars. And should've won for Best Director for Henry V and have an Oscar for writing Hamlet.

Branagh has brought so much great, intelligent stuff to the screen, I wish I could just admire him without reservation. But then I remember him cheating on his wife, the beautiful, brainy, and insanely talented Emma Thompson, which destroyed his marriage, and my heart sinks. Especially knowing that Emma’s tearful performance as the wife of a cheater in Love Actually was mostly real emotion over her real life situation at the time. She’s said so. And that he cheated on her with Helena Bonham Carter, great actress but total flake. He had the absolute best wife on the planet for someone like him, sexy enough for any man, even a non artsy type, and he throws it away. I guess none of these actors can resist exploring a new experience, nor can any of them keep a vow - the men, anyway. It’s a head shaker.
