    It's actually pretty amazing when you think about it. 1 person out of probably close to 150K ate the shrimp cocktail at the local 7-11 before getting to the airport, and effectively shut down JFK. And poor Steve has to play musical planes to try and get the show moving again.

    Years ago on a flight from Puerto Rico to Miami I had seat next to toilet and figured if I had to go it would be convenient. I figured wrong. Some large guy went in for a one hour dump and the smell started almost immediately. And lingered the whole flight. Only people who had to go really bad made an attempt but couldn't make it past the door. Even the flight crew wouldn't pass by it. I was busy suppressing my urge to heave and knew if I or anyone else ralphed, it would have resulted in a barf fest like that scene in Stand By Me.

I have learned so much about how ATC and planes work in tandem. You, H89SA, have created something no one else can beat. • @nmfd31

    @nmfd31

    Pilots get airport information prior to their flight on a separate frequency, its called ATIS (Automatic Terminal Information Service.) It's typically a pre-recorded or automated message with weather, runway information, NOTAMs, and other information. As the message is updated it's assigned a new designator, ALPHA, BRAVO, etc...

    Genuine question.... why does the controller always ask the pilots to speak to RAMP, can they not connect them directly themselves?

  • @rogervoss4877

    @rogervoss4877

    6 жыл бұрын

    afaik, RAMP is strictly a company operation for each Airline's ramp area - so any issues with them are a corporate one to handle. Once permission is granted (by GRD) to 'push out' into a taxiway, the Aircraft transitions to ATC (ground) control - and the reverse after it enters the ramp with ATC permission to move there. So any scheduling issues regarding open ramp slots are between Pilots and their Airline. Same for anything needed before leaving the Ramp, from clearance to shut the door & leave to loading data needed for the flight planning. Landed plane with no ramp slot (Gate) avail.? Controller may have a waiting spot available (hold at) or they might need to taxi in circles a time or two until a gate is avail..

  • @josephdurham3038

    @josephdurham3038

    they do, as far as crossing runways i believe that tower and ground are watching similar radars

  • @Vref75

    @Vref75

    7 жыл бұрын

    often runways are not active for take off landings but can be used to taxi on if traffic is using a different runway to land take off. ground will clear aircraft to cross non active runways you would expect to be talking to tower usually to cross an active runway.

  • @lloydfeng5716

    @lloydfeng5716

    7 жыл бұрын

    christi x that's right. Inactive runways are owned by ground controllers and tower owns active runway and the taxiways between active runways less than some distance apart. So ground controllers can give crossing clearance.

    +Tony hadzhiyski usually, the volume of traffic won't allow them to work as one, that's why they need the ramp controller to share the workload with the ground controller.

    When they talk about a 717, they're not talking about the Boeing 717 are they? Because up until today I was convinced it went extinct decades ago. Like even before the 727 was grounded. (though I did just play around on Google and came across some reasonably new looking pictures of the B-717 in modern liveries) ... so I'm a bit confused here?? Thanks.

    1:37 Caution all passengers, no tacos, chili or jalapenos before flight. BTW Isn't 'explosive' a taboo word on the airways? Was on a flight where a passenger had an 'odious erruption' (threw up) and half the airplane followed suit...confusion reigned.

    Plane toilets cannot handle diarrhea. A "heavy" is any wide-bodied plane, esp with a MTOW of 300,000 pounds. The 380 Airbus and any super large planes are "super". Those 2 classes create a lot of wake turbulence.

    Why are some of them called "HEAVY"?

  • @jpouellet3259

    @jpouellet3259

    plane above a certain MTOW (maximum take off weight) (300,000 lbs) cause dangerous turbulence in their wake, that can cause smaller plane grave damage, and even cause them to crash. Their callsigns are then added with an heavy so ATC know to keep extra separation with them. There is one exception to this, the B757 is also assigned the Heavy suffix, even if its MTOW is 256 000 lbs, since it was involved in wake turbulence accident of smaller aircraft being too close to it. The A380 has its own "super" callsign has its MTOW is stupidly above all the others (like 1,200,000 lbs)

    The cliff notes version without the technical details... "heavy" is another way of saying "lotta people in big plane" And "Super" is a "whole lotta people in an even bigger plane" Currently A380 or Anatov A225 are the only Super aircraft, Most other twin aisles are Heavy 747, 757, 767, 777, 787, A350, A340, A330, L10/11. The reason behind the heavy, super has to do with the "air displacement wake" created by one of these airliners and the time required for the "wake turbulence" to subside to a manageable level. Think about it this way. You are riding your bicycle down the road and a semi goes by you, chances are you are thrown off or almost fall over from the wake created by the truck. So same idea, a 747 being followed by a MD88 the MD88 will be warned about wake turbulence (IE: I am having you slow down so you aren't too close to the other plane) hope that helps/makes sense.
