    I was once a runner too - 35 minutes 10 km. Not good but not bad also. Then office job came i stopped running, i got fat and soft, became father of two kids in the end my veins got damaged because of my long legs. The doctors say that im a lost cause - deep vein damage. Now im training again and taking lots of supplements and don't believe anything the shitty doctors and academic medicine is saying. Lost weight, 84 kg from 109 kg in 4 months. Still losing weight, need to get back to 76kg. This time i dont train for time i train for my life and for survival. Not running, aquajogging, walking, spinning bike. He should run and beat the age class records. He should never stop running. Wrong question to ask why he is still running despite being a millionaire? There is NO REASON for him to STOP running BECAUSE he is a millionaire!!!

    Eliud has not shown weakness. Eliud has shown he is human and has bad days like everyone does. His worst bad day was London Marathon that he ran 2:08 and change. That is still a sub 2:10:00 marathon that is still elite. I think that Bekele focused and made his career and name on the track. I think if he was going to make a repeated super elite level marathon races he should have moved to the marathon distance earlier. He had the ability to run close the the marathon world record but that was his high water mark in the marathon. Since then he has been declining and I don’t think his body is holding up to the stress of marathon training. That is why he is not starting marathons he is on start list for or if he does start he is carrying niggles that ultimately causes him to DNF. Bekele is the GOAT but I think he has earned this title as a 5000 and 10,000 track runner while Kipchoge is the GOAT at the marathon distance.

    Tadesse Abraham, same age as Bekele (1982), is another elite marathoner still running - he was 7th at the Rio Olympics, 9th at the Doha world championships 2019, and European HM champion 2017. And he has earned the qualification for the Paris Olympics 2024 (with the Swiss record of 2:06:38). Were it not for Bekele, Abraham would hold the marathon world record for the 40+

    This may sound crazy, but I can see Kenenisa Bekele going out with an absolute bang and doing just enough to win the Berlin marathon before then retiring. I believe he may have just enough left in him to push the sun back up in the sky and give us one last day of Summer. So my prediction is that Bekele shocks the world, and ends his remarkable running career on the highest note.

    @@nicholasintrepidity5073 I think he may want to scale back down to 5 and 10K. Should still win them all. Can try for the next Olympics 5,000 and 10,000 m for example. Bekele has never done well in the marathon, nevermind the couple of times he was close to the world record. But again, it may be TMS he may be suffering from instead of real injuries.

I want him to retire for good. And yes he is a very rich man. Apparently his hotels & other business's have been very profitable. He even put a standard Olympic rubberized surface track on the land of one of his hotels so he could train on his very own private track.

    Bekele is a great athlete, but it's too late in the game for him to beat Kipchoge in Berlin. The only way that Bekele can beat Kipchoge is if he stays with him until the last 400 meters of the race. He can then sprint his way to the finish line without any issues. Bekele has one of the best sprints of any distance runner in the history of the sport.

    As a masters runner, you have to except age. You can train as much as want, but performance will decline. What I have also experminted with is only training to level where you can keep your energy levels healthy. No injuries, better performance. Recovery training is incredibly important. Biking, swimming, massage, physiotherapy. I hope he pulls out a exceptional performance and retires but keeps running for rest of his life.

    RE Kenenisa: I can't begin to explain how annoyed I am with journalists and sports commentators lecturing stellar athletes about having to retire now because they're frankly getting ridiculous. Bekele still runs 2:05 marathons!! Let this sink in for a minute! Roger Federer (same age) was still routinely in Grand Slams' quarterfinals when he was forced to retire (remember that 99% of elite tennis players won't make it ONCE to this level). Serena Williams is still playing smarter tennis than 99% of professional tennis players. Phenomenal athletes with 20+ years of extraordinary careers don't need to be held accountable by random journalist's standards, they do as they please for as long as they please - and if they fell off the world ranking entirely, who cares! Whether Bekele wins Berlin with the world record (he'd so deserve it) or whether he finishes 12th - he'll forever be the most elegant runner out there. (Can someone please write his biography????).

  • @peterjames1088
    @peterjames10889 ай бұрын

    Perhaps your right, perhaps not. The kind of commitment of going faster and longer is what made Bekele a champion. He may have a deep belief he has some big performance left in him. I’m sure people said you couldn’t win the short and long course races at same world cross country championships. But he did. Both Kipchoge and Bekele are not the type of guys to listen to what people think they can do and that is what separates them from the great 16:12 talents of the world into the all time greats category. Talent is everywhere at the highest level, but it is the minds obsession that gives the relentless drive that others cannot compete with. Unless greatness is achieved the average man sees only an obsession. If greatness is achieved that same man sees only genius. To be truly great one must ride the edge of insanity and regularly cross both sides. After much research I have drawn the conclusion that Bekele is without question the greatest of all time in distance running.

    I greatly admire the most,athletes like Hicham El Gueroj because he was smart (& humble ) enough to leave the sport after winning 2 gold medals( 1500& 5,000) beating voth Kipchoge & Bekele. To slog on & on & on is a psychological impediment & unfortunate denial of physiological reality. Dreaming of hitting some super human high,well it's borderline psychotic or worse. Look @ your darling Mo Farah....... some story. Both could learn from The King: Haile Gebersallasie who continued much training,but without the unnecessary baggage of self delusion in terms of winning " forever". There is a time & place for everything under the sun----to fight facts is an exercise in futility.........& sad.

    Just hearing that he's done, makes me cringe. Whether he is or isn't... Dude has a drive that is second to none.. NONE. He's still training harder than 99.99% of the world. Just that is SO SICK that NO ONE should talk crap bout him. I wish Him the best. Great video, I could hear your admiration of Him.. #SuperStar

    No disrespect for Mr Kipchoge but if Keenisa Bekele back’s to full fitness, he can kick his a$$ very easily. Argue yourself.

    I remember watching Bekele run a race, wearing red tights, and boy I was astonished at how FAT he was. He stopped halfway, breathless, and DNF. And that became a repeated pattern. SAD!
