    Oh for sure. I plan to keep following the season with a few more updates. Id imagine were looking at a good August fishing season. Were about due for the last big push of sockeye and you may be timing it just right! So good luck and keep an eye out for those 15lb silvers coming up the river!

    The fishing is super slow. Not many anglers snagging fish. I got one today. The limit was raised to six, but few catch more than 1-2 since last Wednesday.

    Hoping to fish salmon one of these days. In your opinon, pound for pound, which salmon species is the hardest fighting salmon?

  • @alaskasmallcraftadventures

    @alaskasmallcraftadventures

    2 жыл бұрын

    Id say it's a toss up between the King and the Silver. Kings usually want to stay down when fighting. Giving you hard long pulls while keeping down in the deepest part of wherever you are fishing. Silvers tend to be the dancers. They are more acrobatic, high flying rollers that leap and bound when trying to throw a hook. Both strike aggressively and get your heart racing. Pound for pound? Thats tough, but id say a 15lb silver salmon would be a trophy catch when comparing to a 15lb King salmon. 🐟

    @@alaskasmallcraftadventures I see. I guess its true after all. The general consensus seems to be that Coho, pound for pound, are the strongest fighting salmon.

    Arriving in a few hours, where would you go on the Kenai now? Or should we try the Russian? Kasilof?

  • @alaskasmallcraftadventures

    @alaskasmallcraftadventures

    2 жыл бұрын

    The Russian is a fun trip just because… most of the fish are upstream anyways so you may find easier success. The kenai has cooled off dramatically in the last 72 hrs. The kasilof is hit or miss even on the biggest run days and I’d suggest floating the upper portion if that’s available to you.

    I do! Fishing should be awesome late August and September. Bait will be open most likely for Kenai Silver salmon which can get twice the size as sockeye! Way less crowd usually as well. The trout will be all fattened up by then too.

    @@BenPoulet middle August there will be no more red fishing for the most part there will be reds but they'll be colored up too much. The early silver run for the Kenai usually starts kicking in around the second week and I think it peaks toward the end of August, and I believe September October is when the second run starts which is the larger run for Silvers.

    Any lodge down East Redoubt or Funny river will put you North of the Soldotna bridge and target a narrower part of the river. I’ve been running up and down the river looking for fish, and the majority of them are North of the bridge already. Just in case you weren’t aware. I thought this may help you decide where to stay if you plan to come late season.

    That’s the truth! Some of those spots require you to stand offshore 10ft and the fish go right behind you. You can sometimes even see fins right up to the riverbank.
