    Another great spot is at the end of W Redoubt Ave. That is my favorite local spot. It only can hold about 5 cars but man is it great. I have got my limit every day for the last 2 weeks fishing there. Fast running water and lots of open space and it is only about a 2 minute walk on a trail. That may be a good spot you may want to think about showing for others. Love your videos man keep up the great work. Showing tourist or even other locals good fishing spots.

    Just wanted to say (as I have on other vids of yours) thank you for the in depth videos that you put out. I have just got back to Maine from Copper Landing and fishing some of these places in Soldotna that you have shown us out here in KZread-land and I am ready to go back. I did ok this time thanks to you and your videos. They are very helpful to people that have no idea where to go up there to fish or even how to approach it. The methods up there are much different than how I grew up fishing here in Maine both fresh and saltwater (blues and stripers with shark thrown in- actually I used to tag sharks for NOAA) and to have you take the time, as I've commented before on other videos of yours, is much appreciated. I am not sure about others out there but if you get bored sometime, maybe you could do some species specific how to's? Perhaps fly fishing for pinks in creeks (not flossing), you've got the Red's vids dialed in that is for sure, and any other things that someone like me doesn't even know enough about the subject to even ask. So many KZreadrs post videos of them catching fish and that is great, but there are a lot of us out here that want to know HOW, WHEN and WHERE to start. Just some brain droppings there for you. Lol. I come up there every year... maybe catch you on the river sometime. Keep it up man... people are paying attention to your efforts.

    I sure appreciate the ideas on more episodes! Its hard not to catch a pink salmon right now. The river is filled with them. Im also having great luck with the silvers on lures lately. Maybe I can get some of that action uploaded. Thanks for the recognition. KZread creation is challenging which is why I like doing it. Thanks for your share, lots of folks read through these comments to learn and grow and your contributions help in doing that.

    Right now the majority of the fish are being caught at the mouth of the river on the beach dipping right before high tide. If you have time to spend at a couple of these spots you can get hooked up right now. The fish started coming into the river today. Tomorrows fish count will be big.

    Soldotna could do a much better job of providing access to the river. There are sections of the river that are miles long gravel banks with no public access. These would be good areas especially for the Sockeye run and they wouldn't need to worry about the tourist walking on the grassy banks.

    If youre looking at a map, E Redoubt turns into Keystone. Stay on this road for a couple of miles and you'll find Moose Meadows 1 and 2 on the right. The first one has its parking area on the right side, the second one has its parking area on the left side of the road. Both have signs posted saying what it is. The road will end at the boat launch at which point you have gone a mile too far!!

    I noticed on adfg fish counts for Kenai sockeye, there was a large decrease in the daily number yesterday. Do you think that is just a blip, or due to commercial or dipnetting taking fish out of the system?

  • @alaskasmallcraftadventures

    @alaskasmallcraftadventures

    2 жыл бұрын

    IMHO, I don't think it's a blip, as in, being inaccurate. It's not uncommon for the count to swing like this early on in the run, however you could point to several activities as leading indicators of what's to come when trying to predict the count. Such as, are the beaches netted off (commercially and subsistence fishing), from mouth to mouth of every river North of Ninilchik all the way up the Cook Inlet? Yes they are. Are they indiscriminately hauling in loads of riverbound salmon every single tide? Yes they are. Did the Kenai river see a decrease in the number of fish entering its system at the same time? Yes it did. Coincidence? Thank goodness there is some regulation in place to maintain the balance between commerce and sustainability but it is always shocking to see correlating numbers like that, especially when they are higher than expected. Like June's 9+% Inflation report. 🧐

    I was there Sunday evening. I stopped at moose river first was a lot of reds jumping in moose but not catchable. Then I stopped at swiftwater to the honey hole. 5 out of towers there watched one guy snag 2 in 5 minutes huge hogs , and kept them, I then went to centennial was 4 people there one guy kept a small trout 9 inch a girl snagged one but it came off it was again a hog ,I got a trout , left there at 9 pm returned to swift, got in honey hole and I tell you, my 30lbs line maxima was no match for these hogs hooked into 12-14 only landed 1 and every one of these were hogs, but I couldn’t believe how many times I clearly saw my hook in its mouth and ping it turned inward to river and there she went. Gonna get 40 lbs test next. I have sink fly line rated at 90 lbs so it never snaps that. Good luck oh they were catching across swiftwater I just can’t remember the name but it’s before rotary half way up , free parking it’s a visitors center across from small plane airport. Ive been seeing huge fish too, I had a feeling they were coming in yesterday when I was running around! It might be time to re-spool my reel as well and prepare for the battle! The Kenai River center is a hot spot across from Swifty and can be a good indicator of what's coming. I like how mellow the Swifty slough can be but if they turn out into the big water its bye bye fishy! The water level is up about a foot right now so its a cautious walk to the island for sure. I love your report! Keep putting in that good work!
