just had to say i stumbled onto this video cause i heard that ken smith used kent armstrong pickups and i'm thinkin about usin em on a bass i have .. and buddy you had me laughin all the way thru .. johnny long you should be a standup comedian .. problem is only the bass players and other musicians would get it .. but your laugh and joy was highly infectious .. still never found out if them pickups were kent armstrongs or not but i loved it all anyway .. great video .. i love you man ..

WOW!!! When I was a kid, there was a bass in the window of the music store that I used to drool at, at least one a week. I didn't play any instruments, but this bass was calling me. I couldn't afford it and never did get it. It was a Peavey T-40!! Since then, I have never heard it mentioned. Until this video!

i just got the Ken smith PAS 1981 with bill lawrence pickup ,it was increable bass much better than my 2 Fodera and alembic

As you more or less said, out of phase is only useful for solo stuff or other special situations. I have that on my Gibson Ripper and generally don't find much use for it.

I've heard and played so many different basses and they all sound kinda ehhh to me . Which is why I stick to the precision bass almost 💯 percent of the time . However I've heard a few of these old Ken Smith's and nothing sounds anything like them .

Not to knock your craftsmanship and repair skills, but the string spacing at the nut looks WAAAAY off. The E and A strings are way closer than the D and G. And theres an even bigger gap between the A and D. Youve probably redone the nut i imagine.
