I've got a 2008 Fender jazz MIA with a maple fretboard and the same chrome ashtray and pick up cover. They are some glossy fretboards for sure.

It definitely sounds like a Ken Smith. Between the Ken Smith body and location of the humbuckers, the bass was going to sound like a Smith even though you changed the electronics. Job well done, Sir!

What I've noticed about Ken Smith BASSES is number 1 they sound like nothing else out there 2 they have tremendous definition 3 super snappy tone 4 it's like taking a stingray and a j bass and adding even more to the combined sounds 5 they're super expensive but worth it if you can afford it .

That bass sounds good but it lacks the Smith tone. Doesn't Ken Smith sell preamps?

BSR5J is a jazz bass the smith texture of a soupbar smith is not the sound he was going after...I have not heard a smith j that I've own sound like the soups...different pups that generates the true smith sound

@@LONGCASTLE777 what bass did you use to record Tutt 2? The tone of that bass definitely has a jazz tone but with some extra "stank" on it!

Johnny can you recommend pickups and preamp for a Schecter Stiletto 5 string fretless? I was thinking the 3 band ToneMonster preamp with the stock EMG-Hz's, but it there a better pickup you like that pairs well with the ToneMonster? Thanks!
