A good example of that is Billy Sheehan's "Attitude" Yamaha signature bass. Prior to the Attitude, Sheehan played a heavily modified Fender Precision bass but that bass has an issue with a shifting neck. i2.wp.com/www.notreble.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/Jon-Willis-Billy-Sheehan-Wife-Bass-Replica-full-620x188.jpg?resize=620%2C188 So when he got his deal with Yamaha, they gave him a Pink BB-series custom bass with a neck through body design, which he loved because of how stable it was, that neck wasn't going to go anywhere. i.pinimg.com/originals/4d/d5/e7/4dd5e7180d53ad9b7895bee8bda5ece6.jpg But the downside was that that bass didn't have the punch his old Fender had. So when the Attitude was built they went to extreme lengths to develops a bolt on neck system where the neck wouldn't be able to move even if you slammed the bass into the ground. Sheehan STILL plays those basses 29 years after they first came out. cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1304/0581/products/IMG_0278_92bda16a-4638-4164-83bf-1692df2f4fc0.jpg?v=1492138973
