Fun fact: Kenpeitai translates directly to "Military Police"

  • @AndrewVasirov

Well, it actually was. :P But let's be honest, people like to use native words to describe organizations (like Gestapo which is short for "Secret State Police", and SS which means "Protection Squadron). I think correctly it is Kenpeitai, not Kempeitai, as it is more true to the Japanese hiragana/katakana word. Maybe they used the word used in the show/book.

Yes, but that doesn't matter. If you want to write that in Latin letters and transform that automatically into Japanese, you would have something like: けmぺいたい But you can change that into Chinese characters only. To be honest, ん is the weirdest character in Japanese. It can be n, ŋ, m, and not only that. :P

Speaking of, I'm kind of surprised at how much of the supposedly Japanese writing I see on the show I can easily understand because I have studied Chinese for a good few years now. But I do wonder, is it genuinely Chinese or simply Japanese with no kana involved? The structure seems Chinese and as far as I know, Japanese has it totally different to Chinese. For example, the letter Kido leaves on the table right before he attempts harakiri towards the end of Season 1 is addressed to "His Majesty Crown Prince" (皇太子殿下). And yeah, I'm aware that Chinese was the prestigious language amongst the Japanese elites but I thought it lost its status during the Meiji Restoration. So I find it weird it would still be this prevalent during World War II. But again, it could have simply been Japanese which just happened to involve only kanji.

  • @AndrewVasirov

Actually there were some Japanese group in real life that wanted to write only in Kanji. And in the most cases (place names, titles, most nouns and adjectives), Chinese and Japanese people could understand each other's writings. And let's be honest, Chinese writing looks great. And I believe some Japanese traditionalists would rather use Kanji more often than Kana.

IRL, he had hopes of co-existing with the British Empire while having hegemony over Europe and securing self-sufficiency in resources by taking everything from the Soviet Union west of the Urals; so no need for an overseas colonial empire. The success the Axis had in this story was way beyond even his expectations.

Kempeitai was a real thing. During the occupation of Malaya, the people feared them. They were sorta the military police. The Gestapo really. The people of Malaya feared when the Kempeitai said the word "kasi panchung" which means "decapitate him" in Malay. Those were bloody times. Not just for the people of Malaya but for humanity as a whole.

Yes, I think everyone with at least a fair amount of knowledge of WW2 knows that they were real. That being said, this is an alternate reality of the Kempeitai organization that they’re exploring. The Templin Institute has also done a segment on the alternate reality version of the Soviets from the _Command and Conquer_ series too. Obviously, the Soviets were also a very real organization at one point, but they simply did the alternate version of them and not the real one, just like this. Exploring the _fictionalized_ versions of such organizations is simply what this channel will always do. They’re not here to make any sort of statements or take any stances about real world governments (thank heavens for that). Too many other channels already do that, of which viewers can watch elsewhere, but that’s never what this channel was meant to be.

Joseph Stalin Would be nice to see them doing SCP foundation episode with only information of them from Global Occult Coalition resource. Since SCP is practically a rogue private organization and the GOC is the UN sanction organization, so I would assume Templin would contact with the acting authority of that universe.

Templin Institute, with your Star Trek videos, could you do the Federation at the end of the prime timeline series. DS9 and Voyager, with Nemesis. The Federation dominating the alpha quadrant. And the implication that there is a 29th century time patrol means the Federation endures. And another video of United Earth around the time of the first Enterprise series, as a Vulcan protectorate, and at the end, with the birth of the Federation, and you know what we want, the mirror universe (c'mon, it's practically Greater Terran Union with infighting). Perhaps around the time of the original series and also the start of TNG as well. Basically a series of videos of the growth of the Federation to its formidable "current" state as the dominant power in outs region and it's continued expansion. Or a long video that examines each of the main canon points in its history. And what does this have to do with this video? Well there was a Enterprise two parter set in a Axis victorious alternative timeline, with bat aliens from the future helping the Nazis.

Oh, look: 3:33 a *CV2!* And 3:45 another! Famous French budget car, first produced in 1948 all the way up to 1990... In Holland also affectionately known as "Ugly Duckling" or just "Duck." My mom used to drive me to school in one of these. Unless it was winter, because then the "Duck" would regularly refuse to start its engine. I even believe that George Lucas used that iconic CV2 engine sound in "The Empire Strikes Back" when the Millennium Falcon refuses to start while Lord Vader and his Snowtroopers are closing in on its hanger in the rebel base Echo on Hoth.

The resistance must have a lot of work to do if they fight against nazis and the Japanese Imperial police. Also, it must be pretty awkward when both factions want to kill the rebels, but end up killing each other.

during japaneese occupation on my nation, they employ an apporach of trying to make us joining peacefully under their flag my grandfather is a former captain of a KNIL Special Force ( Dutch East Indie Military) who was recruited by the new Japaneese "liberator" to train the local into becoming japaneese army (in the end he defect to join our people revolutionary army) and Kempetai is one of the forces (other than Heiho,Fujinkai, and PETA) that was formed to turn the locals into trained soldier to fight for Japan, altough only handful of local is on Kempetai ( Kempetai deals with stuff that no local want to deal, its job is to be a police to all of the armed forces. and also ocassionally gives their fellow local beatings ) even my grandfather was quickly demoted to PETA he wasn't recruited into Kempetai (altough PETA was quite a special force, in term of military effectiveness, PETA defect had become a much more dangerous threat. PETA member were the one who killed Britain's General Mallaby, in battle that pit one PETA task force and a lot of untrained locals against 3 Infantry Division and 2 Armored division sent by the british and PETA member forms the basis of our People Security Army (TKR) who's expertise is both urban combat and guerilla war. we're so good at guerilla that the vietnam learned it from us) this show really have extensive touches on realism, they decided to brought a real life force, much appreciated
