Jason, that was a great interview! I’m sure Kelly has mixed feelings about playing without Steve. Hopefully he’ll be able to enjoy the show in CT and will take part in a tribute show, if it happens. Thanks for posting.

I remember attending the benefit show for Kelly Nickels at the Roxy back in the 80's when he was in Faster Pussycat. Messed up thing bass player filing in for him that night ended getting the permanent position in Faster Pussycat. Good that Kelly got the LA Guns gig in the end, better choice-better band!

Kelly is such a nice guy so sad of the passing of Steve Riley I still can't believe he is no more :( I really hope Kelly keeps the band going on even if they have to change the name.Perhaps who knows Kelly Nickels and Mick Cripps would talk to Tracii and Phil to get back together and make an explosive record together that would be a dream!

Alf and the batteryl-ess clock----Kelly, that was Steve with you!! No doubt! Official Electric Gypsy video---Alf. That video was the one that got my attention into L.A. Guns-----motorcycles, junk cars, a train, and a fantastic anthem. Alf rescued from the trash---get him a bike!

Many, many years ago this cat brought me backstage to meet the band at The Metroplex in Atlanta. I'm thinking it was the February 18th show 1988 because it was cold out. He was amused by the fact I knew the 'putting a cigarette out on your tongue' which he'd done a couple times on stage. I was 17y/o and this was back when autographs and shit like that was a big momento deal so I left with a few of those. I think they said they were off to Cincinnati next stop maybe... Anyway if ya remember that Kelly - I of course never forgot so thanks dude! Oh yea btw my ride went ahead and left me at the venue so there I was stuck in a seedy area of Atlanta, no money, no ride, long before cell phone days so I had to hail, then ditch a cab when I got close to home all the way back in Roswell GA. So I apologize to that taxi driver if you're still living man. The things we do when we're kids though.

I don't believe in coincidences. At the end of the interview, Kelly tells us how he found an ALF doll in the trash, Kelly had an ALF doll on the handlebars of his motorcycle, in the Electric Gypsy video. There's also footage on here, with Kelly showing an ALF doll given to him by a fan. CRAZY!

I really liked the first Riley's LA Guns record and REALLY like The Dark Horse single. I'm a long-time fan of Steve from back in his WASP days. Met him a couple times over the years at various clubs and M3 shows. He was a solid drummer and very approachable rock star. Sorry that he's passed. Looking forward to hearing this record.

Riley never had an ego. He was the driving force behind LA Guns. Phil was just there to sing. He didn’t care about Steve, just wanted his pay & hotel room. When we went to Europe in 2015 it was Riley who did everything to get those dates with the promoter. The flight & so on. Riley was the leader & Phil was talking to Guns. Phil came to me after a show and said mate we are going for a ride back to the hotel. He then told me his master plan. Ditch Steve & Kenny, we are jumping ship & I’m taking you with Grant & myself. Lewis bagged on Riley & told me all the reasons Riley & queens were not coming along. Phil didn’t give two fucks about Riley, he only cared about his money & hotel. Phil was not a team player. Riley knew something was up. We would talk, I was put in a hard place by Phil, & Riley was the last to know. Sort of wish I had told him. Rest in peace friend & forgive me for any wrong I did towards you. Hope you guys keep this going.

Funny you say Kelly and Steve were not the social ones. When I went to TA Verns in Milwaukee in 1995 to try and meet LA GUNS behind the bar, I was not 21 yet, ONLY Steve and Kelly were kind enough to stop and sign autographs for us. Completely blown off by Phil and Tracii.

Well, to me, the obvious path Kelly should pursue is to mend the fence with Phil and Tracii. I love Martin playing bass in Guns currently, but if he was replaced by Kelly, that would work for me. I know Phil mentioned differences with Kelly in an interview on another KZread channel several months back, but hopefully it can be fixed. Steve owned 50 percent of the L.A. Guns name, so Kelly can't use it going forward and it would be really hard to get any shows booked under a new moniker for a 60 year old bass player. Do what it takes, and get back with Phil and Tracii, write your amazing lyrics, put out the proper follow up to Vicious Circle and hit the road for 100 shows starting this fall!!!

So sad that Steve Riley left us too soon. Such a shame that it was pneumonia that took him. That is something that can be kicked with proper medical help. I wonder if he was trying to kick it on his own. There must have been some underlying health issue that kept him from beating it. RIP Steve. On a music note, I love Riley's Guns better than Phil and Tracii's version. They have stuck truer to the original L.A. Guns sound to me. More blues, sleaze and punk sounds than the mainstream version of Phil and Tracii.
