Same. I had technically heard it before because I had the album. But then when it played on Smallville with Lana walking down the street alive, it became a core memory and took on a whole new meaning. I started listening to it over and over and now it's prob my favorite song of hers. And I wouldn't have grown to love it as much if not for Smallville.

This song has nothing to do with drug addiction or alcoholism Its about being free from a toxic relationship. People seem to only pay attention to titles or choruses. Thats why people play "I'll Always Love you" from Whitney Houston at weddings when its a freakin' break up song Listen to the lyrics people

Her voice is so impressive. It must feel great to open your mouth and be able to have those sounds come out.

It was. As well as Don't Waste Your Time, the whole album launch got torpedoed by Clive Davis, cause he wanted a Breakaway 2.0. Kelly wanted to make My December because she was just exhausted and had too much on her heart. They went head to head, Kelly fired everybody, got a new team, Clive was pissed, slandered her and used his connections to make My December fly under the radar as far as promo went. She had to cancel her tour and go on tour with Reba instead. The gag is though, my December is her highest selling record to date so who really won?

They made it the second single of _My December_ but her label didn't give her the budget for a video, did not promote it and did not send it to radio.

It Was a single. Unfortunately, the album that contained the track was part of the record company she split from. They refused to to promote the release, or the tour for the album.

Ugh, the growth in her voice on this album was phenomenal. My December was so necessary for Kelly to shake the American Idol stigma by bringing a lower, emotional strength to her voice. And now look at her, her vocals are impeccable!

She has so many great songs, but Sober has always been my hands down favorite ever since I first heard it featured on Smallville.

This song has saved lives.

I love this song so much. a lot of people could construe it as a song about sobriety but to me its about getting rid of toxic elements in or life or destructive people that bring you down. amazing performance by kelly she's one of the most underrated artist out right now imo.

I've loved this song since it came out and it's actually held many different meanings for me over the years. I think that's the beauty of this song, its meaning is whatever it means to the listener.

Can’t believe that was over 15 years ago. She sounds great or even better now one of the best voices of this generations. Highly underrated! This song hits hard cause I’m 9 years sober. This song takes me back!!!

This song hits so different. I remember discovering it in a time where I felt alone, i used to cry myself to sleep listening to this. Somehow took my sadness higher but i felt a comfort at the same time. A safe place to me

The years go by and whether it's sung live or in the magnificent studio version, this track just keeps aging like fine wine. Her best song.

If Kelly reads these I want her to know how much I have struggled with opioid addiction. I get clean for months or even up to a year. 3 days ago I just relapsed and bought pills. Across when they were gone I wanted more I made the phone call and started the drive. Half of me was telling me no but the addict side of me was saying yes. I literally got 5 miles from where I was going to make the purchase and this song came on my playlist. I pulled the car over on the interstate and literally started crying. I was so ashamed in myself and what I had accomplished and it seemed like I have zero self control. I play this song now on repeat since I did that to remind me I can do this. Kelly your a amazing, talented and loving person. I know that GOD put you in the public eye to use that beautiful gift to help others. Thank you for sharing you gift.

There are no words for what this song does to me and has gotten my through. When I think of Kelly Clarkson this is what I think of. Just raw, emotion and grit. It's ugly, beautiful and honest at the same time. And my girl rocks it in a t shirt 🥰 not to mention just off hand on a random request

I've had many toxic people in my life over the years. This has helped me so much get through broken friendships and broken relationships over the years. It always helps me feel better always. I'm very moved by you guys and your stories of addiction. For me my addiction has been emotionally wounding myself by allowing people who were bad for me to hurt me again and again. I applaud you all for your conviction and bravery in kicking the habits. Love and light to all of you.

I walked out of jail 3 months ago. I was so fuked up on drugs. All I wanted to do is get out and get high. Needless to say this was the first song I heard and it made so much sense! I listen to it when I'm having relapse thoughts. In those 3 month my boyfriend passed away on a heroin overdose.. I'm so thankful this song was brought to me and not a moment to soon❤️

She's yelling at the end....and it's fantastic.

So intimate, so raw, I loved it. I maybe from Minnesota but when I think of Kelly, she is that Texas woman who dresses in jeans and a t-shirt, leaving it all out there, on a stage. I think she feels like the luckiest person in the world when she is doing what she loves...Singing.

This is the song I listen to when my depression and anxiety goes overdrive.

Don't know how, but this song just gets better and better with every listen, the clarity of her voice is absolutely insane...I'm happily retired 6yrs now from smokin' crystal, and it's still tough, cuz no matter what anyone says, you miss it. What I DO NOT miss in the least are the scandalous tweekers, and jail....I'm allergic to long stints in jail, so I'm good on any and every drug, not even Tylenol goes into this body....LoL GREAT SONG, and Kelly is hot as hell too :)

What kind of person isn't for live versions of songs? I only listen to live as does most of the people I know. I mean of course you know we all listen to both but primarily live and that's what everybody prefers because you get to hear the true music in it and the true artist within it.

2023 I think it was October during her Vegas residency people waited for days and paid a fortune to be there just to wait for this song. And as amazing and goosebumps giving is this version is the version of her who's been through a divorce and who has also cultivated her voice to near perfection brought this song to 10 other levels

I relate this to going no contact with my family. It's beautiful. I have only the family I have chosen. It's better this way. And I am better this way. Thank you for this song.

This live version is the best of them all. At the end of the song when she last noted "Picked all my weeds but kept the flowers", she turned to her guitarist/friend and giggling with bright and happy voice ~ she just stated again that her beloved, friends, fans are all her flowers that she wants to keep, and even there were highs and lows, it does get better everyday.

This song literally gets me through tough spots. I listen to this when I feel weak, and it reminds me why I chose sobriety 😊 thanks Kelly

This song carried me through my first heartbreak as a teenager. I'm forever grateful.

July 2023 and this is still one of my favorite songs and definitely my favorite performance of it.

I've loved this song since My December was released, but haven't actually been able to relate it to my life until the past couple of years. I've cut off some people from my life that were toxic and gotten some really great ones in place of them. Personally I struggle with depression and self-harm and songs like this and the good people I have around me help a lot. Thanks, Kelly! :)

This song is so great and the performance perfect. How she does that yell thing at about 4:13 and still sounds in tune is straight up amazing. Even most great singers would botch that.

This song makes me think of my dad, with a heavy heart. The night he had a heart attack and died, back in 2009, was the day he became sober.
