Keir Starmer and Rishi Sunak meet for the first time since the election in first day of parliament

Roles have been reversed from what we've come accustomed to in the Commons.
Rishi Sunak took up his place as leader of the opposition for the first time today as Sir Lindsay Hoyle was elected Speaker of the House in the first acts of the new parliament, while Keir Starmer gave his first speech from the despatch box as Prime Minister.

Anyway they've maintained their seats which is largely all they care about. I'm sure they'd prefer to be in power, as that's more fun, but the wage is still pretty good, and they still get to lord over a couple thousand people. So it's not too bad. That's really interesting - as a British person, I was chatting with my partner today about how we hate the fact our politicians are close friends with those from other parties - as well as with journalists. It's all very cosy, with politicians able to laugh and joke with actual fascists both in the parliament and on TV, and the media not holding any of them to account properly in order to maintain privileged access. They even largely go to the same social functions together. Meanwhile, the country continues to slide into economic malaise with ballooning inequality and collapsing public services.

If you are trying to suggest that Biden should have won the last election you just don't know what you are talking about. I would love to hear your idea of what a fair election is. As for the Labour Party win, whilst 80% of the population did not vote for them and more people voted for Corbyn last time, the system is such that they have won. So it's not quite the same thing as rigging the election. They did score a lot of cheap seats as the low percentage of vote share would suggest but this is all allowed. Not a great system that they end up with over 400 seats after getting this many votes but yes you are right they did win.

Although there's been some drift apart in the recent polarisation of politics, much of the time MPs do form friendships and connections to MPs from opposing sides. It's not uncommon to find a group of MPs laughing together in the bar after work only to realise they're from 3 or 4 different parties. As the speeches given in the video illustrate, It's still a job, and they are still just people. They have to learn to live and work side by side with people with often diametrically opposed political viewpoints. There are the psychos and the ideologues who get into the commons and frankly, nobody likes them very much (even MPs don't like those who won't STFU about politics). There's also the slimy ambitious ones who will trample on anyone to get power. MPs often learn to keep a wide berth from them too lest they get stepped on. It is important to remember that a lot of MPs really are there (at least initially) because they believe in helping their communities. Because we've had so many parasites in government lately it gets easy to forget that.

I think it is actually quite strategic. In a sense calling Labour's bluff. The state of the country is in so much shambles, that people will want fixes to the problems straight away. Labour hasn't a clue what it going to do in the first 100 days. The NHS is in tatters, with Huge immigration issues, Prison issues, a Housing crisis, an Ecological crisis, and a Cost of living. Everything. I can't see Kier Starmer lasting any more than 6 years. They are a centrist right-leaning party, (not the leftist party of Corbyn) which only feeds into the hands of the right-wing to later swoop. Swing and roundabouts are all it's ever been and ever will be. Only the rich gain to benefit as they always have.

Within the past few months alone the debacle with the gaza vote and threatening the speaker to oust him was some top tier corruption. He said to a bunch of liverpudlians he wont do anything related to the sun, then soon after said nationally and proudly tuat he was happy to have the sun involved on something. Let's be optimistic but it's difficult when you see that sort of thing.
