Great and simple , appreciate the review Steve, I know dealer here in metro Detroit that started carrying KEF, I've had a chance to hear the KC 62 , I actually took it out of the box for him and hooked it up I was highly impressed, stayed there most the afternoon listening to music switching between the LS 50s , R series KEF ( out of my budget lol) and KEF Q350s all with that sub I enjoyed it. So awesome review man always enjoy your spin on products 👍🏾👍🏾💯💯

As Steve says, it just just vanishes and integrates perfectly and Bass Extension is absolutely astounding! To add to the above. The extension is fantastic, have got the cut off set at 50hz which is just right for the ATCs.

Very nice review Steve. May I add? As you know, I am the Martin Logan guy, and even thought the bass modules go down to 25Hz. I was wanting a subwoofer for the deep pedal notes on pipe organ recordings AND the orchestral bass drum without having to turn up the bass control on the Parasound P6 - 2.1.. So, back to my BRICK AND MORTAR store for the Martin Logan 1600X. This has complete control from phone or tablet, along with room correction by Anthem. I am waiting for the 'bass kit' which will involve software for the laptop. You plug directly into the subwoofer and up to TEN listening areas are measured. I am using this for 2 CH stereo only with the ESL 9's. Just the basic settings I have used, including setting the LPF at 35 Hz. has worked VERY nicely for all kinds of music. So yes, a subwoofer need NOT be for theater use only (O:

100% nailed on Steve. I was a small room sceptic and then bought a KC62 (before I even saw this) and wow does it open my stand mounts up. I guess it takes all the heavy lifting away from the mid range drivers because they just sings with it in place. It ain't just about the thump. That said, I wouldn't have bought it if it meant constant fidget to get the sweet spot. DSP / Room correction or in my case Lygndorf TDAI means I can control and change all the variables from the listening position in real time. God, what an age we live in.

Earbuds for Kef M400 250 euros for a pair of earbuds in replacement, for headphones bought new 50 euros (original price of the headphone 250 euros, or the price of this spare part), while the leatherette is very thin and quickly detaches itself? I expected about ten euros, which I usually put in the competing models. 25 euros would have seemed very expensive, too expensive considering the poor quality, but 250 euros (240 Pounds) is unfortunately not a joke, but an incredible bullshit and a deliberate merchant choice that corresponds to wear and tear. I have always been faithful to the Kef brand for 40 years, but I understand that we are actually taken for pigeons, frankly it is like urinating on us. Fortunately Kef is not a car manufacturer, he would sell the 4 tires at the same price as the new car! Also, we notice that the construction of these earpieces does not correspond to what they seem to be, that is to say a natural rubber of good thickness to withstand time. In short, a good sound quality, but of the whole issue manufacturing, and a sales policy that is obvious robbery.

The t9i is a pretty relevant comparison as it is priced similarly, has a good reputation, actually has larger driver area, but a less impressive spec sheet. Even the t7i is relevant because Steve has a pair and knows them well The whole point of watching to one of Steve's videos is to get what you can't get from the spec sheet and the company promo videos, and I didn't get that from this video.

I think you missed a trick with the RCAs, the high pass filter. Connecting the line outs onwards to the stereo speakers allows the subwoofer to filter out the low frequencies those speakers may not be able to do properly. I'm considering this subwoofer for that feature (and yes, to go with my LS50s). Source -> Preamp -> KC62 -> Poweramp -> LS50s

So instead of crossing the sub where the bookshelf naturally rolls off, what about introducing a high pass to completely cut those low-tones from the small bookshelves and have the sub handle everything under say 80hz. I've heard this can negatively effect voicing of the bookshelf, do you have an opinion here?

Awesome review as always! Do you think KC62 would do equally well with larger floor standing speakers like Ohm 3000's which has a 10" driver? Or is better to stay with subs that have 10-12" drivers that are designed to perform best in the 20 to 40hz range?

Hiya Steve! I think you sold me an Audible Illusions, back in the day. Quick question: have you tried these with P3ESRs? I'm running them, desktop, with a Benchmark stack and a REL. I'm looking for a sub with an HPF, to give the Harbeths a bit of relief in the upper bass. That and the smaller size (and deeper output?) than the REL, makes this tempting. Your thoughts?

As a dealer the KEF subs are far and above its competitors; They are a Tier 1 manufacturer and build everything in their own factories, the DSP they employ is outstanding! Comparisons to others are not what this review is about.

The obvious comparison is the B&W PV1D...the "bowling ball sub". Similar in most repects, also pricey and feature packed. How do they stack up against one another? Inquiring minds want to know!

@steveguttenbergaudiophiliac What TOOK me so long?? I've been tuning into your great reviews here for years and I JUST subscribed ! This KEF KC62 . . . first, 11 hz is not audible to us mere mortals so whether KEF is making that number up is purely academic anyway but it's hard to reconcile that number considering the size of the KC62. The Dynaudio Heritage Special is SUCH a beautifully balanced speaker according to your recent review. Did the KC62 in ANY WAY mess with the Heritage's sound and how does the KC62 measure up to any REL that you've played with?

A sub might sound ''right'' with ambient, soundtrack or sweeping classical music. The true test is with music that has a fast paced rhythm/beat. That's where I could never get my REL T-Zero sub to disappear and why I ended up selling it out of frustration. At the beginning of this review I got excited and was already contemplating getting one until I noticed what your demo tracks were.

Hi Steve, can you flesh out your comments a little on the sub setting in regards to when used with the LS50? You mentioned 50 or 60 Hz was what you were going between, and funny enough I find myself stuck between these exact two cut off points. I’m going a little crazy as I keep changing it back and forth. I hear it but don’t know which one? If you are able, please explain what is making me jump up back and forth, and if there’s one more “optimal setting” than the other between these two? I’m using my LS50s with the Kef Reference R400b sub. Please help. Thank you.

I’d like to help, but please understand there is no clear-cut answer to this question. So many factors are in play: the size of your room, the distance of the subwoofer to the wall or corner. The distance between the speakers and the subwoofer

Seems theres muich controversy behind the subject as stark reality tends to show its just marketing and no real difference. Thoughts??

Adding a REL Q400 2 years ago (specified at 30 Kg net nude! really, a two man lift (or you can walk it on it's corners ..as one does) & gr8 con' so a very successful (for a change!) eBay buy at a 1/3'ish £350 vs £1000 when new but at least 15 or maybe up to 20? years old now, working fine but I guess subs are probably much better now for a much lower price. It's ran from Amp's speaker posts as Rel recommends in user manual. At once when it was properly dialed in, phased & neccessarily placed to rear & side of my right speaker, nearly fully in a corner but pulled out 4 to 6 inches i.e. as much as I dare without getting nagged (no other practicle choice, & I'm told corner placement is the worst place for a sub). But what really surprised me most was getting a sense of the concert hall size in orchestral & smaller chamber orchestra from vinyl recordings as always... (my CD's are kept in the car now, once in a while I'll fancy hearing one & fetch it in) ...esp' on recordings done in the larger concert halls. Even cellos of quartets recorded wherever came more alive with their woody low resonance giving them more "body" & a physical like presence. And my Tannoy 15" M.Golds are not particular bass shy but surely lack something below my aprox 55 - 60Hz setting point. With rock & pop ...yeah, ok & sometimes 'meh' but I'm enjoying classical music & unplugged bands, accoustic stuff like never before the sub's addition. I could just fit 2 of these small KEF subs next to & a bit back from each speaker. That's not going to happen fast less I win the lottery I never do🤪
