Keezer Build 101: How to Craft the Ultimate DIY Beer Cooler

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

In this video I tackle converting a used 7.0 cubic chest freezer into a "Keezer" also known as a kegerator for the purposes of serving beer on tap at home. We bought the kegerator conversion kit from a website called KegCo.com. This included many of the parts as well as some instructions to help guide the conversion process.
If you want to take a closer look at some of the products used in this video then I have them all linked below. I want to be fully transparent here and let you guys know that I am an Amazon Associate. @@rustydogandco What adhesive did you use to secure the collar to the freezer? Did you use any hardware other than the corners?

    @prodanman I used some silicone adhesive that’s typically used for kitchen and bath projects (waterproof). I didn’t use any other hardware for attaching. I just made sure to apply a good amount of weight while the adhesive dried. I left it for about 24 hours before I removed the weights.

    I'm not sure about the sensor in the water, because that might cause a delay in the temperature control loop. That means it will be slow to respond when the fridge heats up and keep it running for longer than it needs to. So it might use more power and you might end up with bigger temperature fluctuations than you might want (depending on how the control unit is set up) but see how you go. Awesome build, might have to make one myself someday. Cheers! 🍻

    I’m going to see how it goes and I might eventually move the sensor. Seems to be doing okay for right now. Thank you! It was a fun build and we have enjoyed having it. Cheers! 🍻

    The sensor in the water is smart. Because the temperature of the water will be similar to the temperature of the beer in the keg.

    Why did you choose 34 degrees Fahrenheit? Also, what's the recommended upper limit? (How high should you allow the temp to go before the unit kicks on)?

    I like for the beer to be nice and cold! Haha so that’s close to freezing temperature but not too close. I would say the highest temp you would want to go for setting the temperature would be 40 degrees Fahrenheit. 34-40 degrees is kind of the recommended zone but ultimately its up to each individual and how cold they like to serve beer. In my experience…the colder the beer the less issues with foam. Not sure if there is something to that but that’s just the experience I’ve had. Hope that helps!

    I am super intrigued about putting the temperature sensor in water. Out of curiosity, have you measured beer temperature right after pouring? And well done...project and video! Edit: And the temperature controller...I don't recall seeing these when I looked at doing this project a long while ago. It seemed like the only ones available had to be hardwired into the freezer. Do you have any thoughts on the that and about your temperature control unit in general?

    First of all, thanks so much for the compliments! I appreciate that. I have not measured the temperature of the beer when it's poured but that's a good idea. I might try that sometime to test the accuracy of the temperature sensor. What I can say though...is that the beer tastes nice and cold upon pouring haha. The temperature controller that I purchased for this Keezer I got off of Amazon. I'll leave a link to it below. It seems to work pretty well so far. I will have to wait and see how long it lasts. Overall the setup was relatively easy although everything being in Celsius required me to google how to change it over to Farenheit but that was simple to do once I googled how to do it. I leave my temperature controller set to 34 degrees farenheit and it keeps the freezer at that temp. I haven't put a thermometer in there to measure the actual temp and see if it's exact but I'm satisfied with how cold it's keeping the kegs so I feel like it's probably pretty close. Hope that helps some. Here is the link to the temperature controller I use: a.co/d/6r8QWZE

    Rookie question: So by plugging the freezer into the temperature control unit allows the freezer to operate like a refrigerator?

  • @rustydogandco

    @rustydogandco

    Ай бұрын

    Correct! It allows you to set the temperature the freezer operates at so you can run it at a temperature closer to that of a refrigerator.

  • @cecilarchbold

    Ahh, so it basically cycles the freezer off when it arrives at the temperature you set.@rustydogandco
