  • @moulion

    @moulion

    I stopped watching them because they are pointless. Why try so hard to brainwash yourself into enjoying a thing you don't enjoy (anymore)? I am professionally a carpenter, a web developer, a 3D artist, and a pet sitter. I switch between all these jobs whenever I feel like it. And everytime I lose the motivation to do one, I do NOT try to force or brainwash myself into "keep going". Instead, I move on to doing something else. And when I get sick of doing that, I move on, or move "back" to something I lost motivation for earlier...

    @@moulion you've got a point, considering people who try to motivate themselves and that's the only one source that keeps them moving forward. However, there's the other side of the coin. Some times you can feel weary and that doesn't depend on the level of your satisfaction of doing something. And that kind of video can "open" your eyes and boos your courage which can be of help in backing to the track.

And amongst the plethora of youtube videos of so many success stories and unreal glam and shizz..... this is really a gem. It took me back to why I really started programming... that thrill of seeing your code work.. as Dennis says.. something as simple as a Hello World or seeing my name pop up. That was the reason most of us start programming... but many get lost in today's world running behind the glam and cool stuff... Thanks for taking me back to where it all started... This will help many of us get back to the hustle.. and get to our dreams... Wishing the best to everyone. :)

    I've learnt for 4 years straight. I was ready for a job the very first year. The last 3 years were just improving and applying for jobs. NO ONE replied to me. Not a single company, and that did it for me. I have two little kids and I can't risk starting my own business and quit my job. Now, I hate the idea of applying for programming jobs. I don't even look at my resume anymore. I actually regret wasting all those years on it. Programming is now just a hobby that I enjoy sometimes late night when I'm alone. Just waiting for the kids to grow and go to school so I can attend school myself and get that stupid piece of paper a lot of companies are shitting their pants for. So happy for you, buddy. It was simple and easy to understand. I started my coding journey following your videos and it really helped me grow. Unfortunately, life has unforeseen circumstances and I have to go back to my old job. The fire that was burning inside me died down because of the things I have to prioritize such as bills. While I was scrolling on your channel last night, I came across this video of Dennis. This really hit me. I cried watching and listening to the story of Dennis coz I can totally relate. It's almost the same road that I am taking right now. This is the most inspirational story for me. This really gave me hope! To be honest, I was having mid life crisis as I wanted to do something that I love to do, not something that I hate doing but have no choice coz I have to pay the bills and put food on the table. But your story Dennis gave me a bright ray of hope that despite the challenges that would come, there is still a chance for me to be able to continue my passion in coding. I faced and am facing the same thing! Trying financially sustain myself in reality while working on something I didn't realize I wanted to get into. Its so difficult, especially when the thing that you need is helping to block the things that you want indirectly. As a woman, and a black woman at that. I feel that I must be at 200% before getting into the industry because I will be expected to prove myself more. Very frustrating place to be in. Thanks for sharing story 💖. I can definitely relate, although, I'm still at step 1😕😜. You're totally right. It will be hard (has been), but its just about sticking with it 💖

    After learning coding for 1 year and half, I am still stuck with HTML, CSS and JS. I tried learning Python, Node, but really suck at backend stuffs. Bought a few courses on Udemy but didn't finish most of them. What I learnt is that have a target in mind. Join a project, create a simple site, a simple app, just have a goal in mind. I learned more through doing a project than through tutorial courses. Don't get stuck in Tutorial Purgatory. And of course, Stackoverflow :)

    I don't see what is wrong. If people want to learn HTML & CSS code, or teach it to others, then let them do this! There is nothing wrong with education of web development. It's just a different discipline, may not be what you do, but it is not better or worse.

    I started to learn how to code in late June of this year, to find a purpose after struggling with having a lack of proper education, depression, and severe video game addiction for over 5 years. So far I've learned C++ to an extent, some basic Python and JavaScript, and HTML from pretty much nothing. And it wouldn't have been possible without your HTML crash course Brad, I've come a long way and have a long way to go but I have never been so dedicated to learn and become something in my life as I am right now, and it's all thanks to the hard work of all the coding content creators, but especially you! Thank You for igniting that spark in me, and many more like me to come! and Thank You, Dennis, for sharing your story. This will only add fuel to that fire!

    Awesome video Dennis, I've been struggling myself with keeping up motivation but way before i started this journey i told myself that i would never give up no matter how hard it gets. I intend to keep that promise to myself, because the moment you break a pact that you've made with yourself and give up that's when you lose yourself. To all my Self-taught programmers out there, just want to say don't give up the light gets brighter down the tunnel.

    The last 4 minutes were my favorite. Those were really beautiful and powerful words. Thank you for delivering power to me. I clicked on this video and wasn't sure what I was gonna watch at that moment. Although I was not in need of motivational content, you made me feel better just by reminding that what I'm doing is important and it counts. I often feel like missing on lots of things like trips, friends and girls. But truth I never cared about any of this as much as I did about becoming a better developer. I hope that it wasn't all for nothing. I think the hardest part in the world of programming is that it's not something that most people are familiar with and or something that people understand either. I never happened to meet anyone who knew what web development is once they asked me what my job is - unless of course they happened to be programmer themselves too. I think we always have that problem that some of our work-related problems aren't discussable with our families or partners and it doesn't ring a bell to them. Usually, I'd avoid talking about it altogether. Also, I think that losing hope is common one too. We all lost hope at some point, but you have to keep fighting. It gets easier over time, but you have to do it everyday - that's the hardest part about it. The learning curve is steep and you can't expect yourself to become the best programmer just overnight. Patience and practice is the key in my experience. I honestly forgot what I wanted to say initially, but I loved this video. It's really well put.

    How timely this videos comes in. Noticed that I've had a week of slacking here and there, then kept getting back doing some very interesting stuff, then again just losing interest, and as you Dennis mentioned that you always had those books at hand like a reminder that it is still here, waiting for you to dive in back. I've got a different situ, I am just taking regular notes in VSCode and I see that tree of unfinished projects every day. It's been 8 month since I started, and these were superbly exciting at times and I enjoyed the moments when difficult things become understandable first and a habit afterwards, and I hated the moments when I'd rather go watch some youtube. Regardless of that, I am getting back today or tomorrow, doesn't matter. I've got too much knowledge to just give up.
