Let me know if you guys like this format, meaning me talking off the top of my head about different topics. If so Ill start doing this once or twice per month in addition to tutorials and presentations. Don't worry I will not become a "coding channel" that does not write any code lol. Seems there are so many of those.

I gotta tell you, man. You are really inspirational. I have a decent background in IT, but almost nothing in web dev. I had some bad experiences recently and got myself into a shitty situation. I've felt totally hopeless and depressed for almost two years. While trying to figure out a way out of my position, I decided to try to pursue a career shift out of network administration and into web dev and found your channel. You have no idea how much your videos have helped me. I now don't feel so helpless anymore and feel like I have a positive path and goal in my life again. Thank you for all that you've done and for being a genuinely awesome person.

When I start coding I actually had one thing in my mind, remember the sequences of the code which I made, but it didn't work at all. I was so frustrated. Now I have lots of files saved "under my pillow" and I reuse the code from older projects, keeping an eye to them and upgrading when they need.

Awesome video. It's so true, people ask me all the time what programming and coding is like. They think it's like what they see in the Matrix with binary code flowing down the screen and being able to read it or like Elliot from Mr. Robot just typing away on a keyboard. I'm like nope, it's more thinking than anything else. I spend more time mapping out my ideas than I do actually coding. Then I research to see if there's a solution similar to my idea and if so, how can I refactor it to suit my needs. Mastering the art of using Google is key to learning how to code. I like the various formats of your videos. The scripted videos are ideal for explaining complex material. The talking head type videos are good for more general conversation type videos. Mixing it up is a good thing.

yes Brad these kind of format should be done at least once per month if you have any such topic as this one, this is very critical issue for beginners and i've gone through already, if this format was there two years ago may be i saved my time where i doubt my self and i was about to quit. conclusion of the video: * Memorize concept only. * Core concepts learned once and applied to any language. * Languages/Libraries/Frameworks have there own syntax but concepts are same. * Make personal docs for syntax reference. * Project based tutorials are very helpful to apply the concept on your application. * Adding my personal point: i used to save the information for future that i hardly find on Google to solve problems. Correct me if I'm wrong. Brad i have seen people quit programming because of this issue and i believe it will gonna help a lot of people out there, Thanks for sharing your experience! i like you cute kid once i saw him in your video i wanna hug him❤ May God bless you and your family.

I'm following some of your tutorials now in 2020, and sometimes watching this short videos where you explain this logic stuff that we all know but don't most of us don't put in practice because most because of being afraid to fail. What i like the most on your videos is to be able to see how much you improve over the time on project structuring and coding writing. It's amazing to see that kind of improvement and also your explanations about why you change your style. I teach, mostly, web fundamentals in Portugal, on highschool like programs and i adopted part of your style on writing/structuring into my classes, and that simple methods made me to be able to change, not only my own comprehension about coding, but also and most important, the comprehension my students. They became so much better at thinking in terms coding logic and structuring that they really start to advance so quick and started actually to build stuff and improve on their own. For me this is a moral boost because i became better at teaching. All just by watching your explanations and your comparations. Thank you so much for having time for doing this. You're amazing. I'm sorry for this long post.

Keep doing this type of stuff. It really helps us developers that learned 100% by just doing and no formal training understand if we're doing the right things or what others are doing. I would love to see something on basic programming. Something with use cases for the different constructs so we know when we should be using the different tools that programming languages provide.

Thanks for this. Today wasn't a great day, I was too tired and couldn't think clearly and the self doubt was creeping in. It's relieving to know that searching and researching for answers is a normal part of the work. Also, it's great that you leave the little mistakes in your vids. It makes them more real and personable. All the slick editing and flawless vids out their just undermine people's confidence. As for this style vid, I think it's great. There is more to coding than just coding. Getting a perspective on life and norms, again, makes things more personable and real. It brings things down to earth and helps make everything seem more possible when the rough patches inevitably occur.

Brilliant video. I work with PHP and MySQL and I'm forever having to look stuff up. It took half a year of looking up and using the fetch_assoc function to pull rows from the database and output them into a table before I could remember the syntax off the top of my head. I'm currently learning Laravel and I have to constantly copy & paste or look up the syntax for routes. Like you say, learning the principles behind the code so you know how to use properly is far more important. Anyway, it's reassuring to know I'm not the only one :D

You are not alone in this. Welcome to the wonderful and enigmatic world of programming. I've been in the field for almost 25 years now. And sure, while age now plays some part in referencing common concepts I knew as a youngster, technology continues to rapidly evolve around us, practically forcing us to constantly add/edit/delete our collective years of resource materials. There literally is no end.

I beat myself up thinking I had to memorize coding while still not understanding the concept. I go to these coding meetups and look in awe and marvel at these "polished" coders when they present. You humanized that coding is like everything else, the more you do the better you'll understand. Its a craft like anything else, you develop a tool box that will work for you and take the time to find everything else out. Much success to you. + on the subscribe.

I am a beginning Full-stack developer, and even though I was told I won't be able to memorize everything, still I find myself trying hard to memorize stuff. And when I forget something, I beat myself over it thinking that I am dumb or I am a bad student. I needed this video to really learn and understand everything you mentioned in this video like understanding concepts and that the biggest part working as a developer is looking up stuff on Google or with fellow developers. Your video' really eased my mind and made me feel better and not dumb. You are the example of a great teacher and mentor. Thank you so much for your fantastic video's that give me a lot of energy and inspiration to keep digging into the world of Full-stack development. Again, many thanks my brother 🙏💙

Hey Brad, totally love the style of these videos where you’re just explaining stuff to us face-to-face. Hope you do a lot more of these. And yes, I would love if you do a course on just explaining the how/what of things like functions, loops, arrays, etc. I agree The syntax changes but the concepts remain basically the same. Much like learning different verbal languages, a verb is a verb and a noun is a noun though they all are written differently per the individual language. I would love better explanations than I received in boot camp and I think you’re just the man for the job because our minds think similarly.

Thanks for the discussion Brad. I also think it's important to note that cultivating ideas is necessary so you can apply your coding skills to projects. Do other things besides coding! Make things. Solve problems. Listen. Be open to the unexpected lessons in all things. Don't be too proud - even the simplest things can teach you something. Just because you can type doesn't mean you can create a novel. Typing can help but you must dream, dream, dream! And you must also do. Like you mentioned Brad, practice being resourceful - know how to find what you need to meet your goals. Don't rely on other people to find out the answers you need. That's lazy and self defeating. If you're dreaming big enough - the answer isn't OUT there! Try to be kind to yourself - realize that you already know a lot. You're never starting from zero. If you must learn that new, trendy framework - understand the problems it was created to address and decide how (or if) it will help you (before you invest your precious energy).
