Keeping kids Occupied in SUMMER!

This week was crazy with Joel gone. Running the house, our business, and Bollie. It was a big week. Joel was so amazing and made sure we were a week ahead so I didnt have to worry about editing while he was gone, I was so grateful. Even though I had to get after the kids before the movie, I think it was good, because they were so well behaved and all acted very respectful and said thank you during the movie. I went to bed this night very happy with the kids and with the week I got to spend with them.

Bonnie, I am a senior in high school, but I have watched your videos for years. You have taught me so many things that I am sure I will use with my future family and for that, I am forever grateful. Although I don't have kids yet, I have found many similarities between you and me. I just want to say that the way you handle situations is truly something I look up to and aspire to be like. You are not only a blessing for your own family but to your KZread family as well! Thank you for continuing to document your journey to help others!

I was raised by a yeller. Nothing hurts a child's psyche more than when a parent yells and screams at them. It is not OK to yell and scream at your children ever. But there are times when it does happen, and those are the times when you have to stop, take a step back and regroup. I do not think that there is a parent in the world that has never yelled at their child, but I hope that there are parents who know that it is best to walk away from the situation when yelling at them. I do not have a relationship with my mother today, because she was a yeller, all the time. To this day, I cannot even abide by being in her presence, or even stand the sound of her voice. Sad isn't it? Something to think about. It takes 10 positive words to make up for one negative word said to a child.

I own a business and have been extremely busy working as much as I can on a couple of projects. He watches way more tv than I would like, and has been babysat by my family so much these past few weeks. Most days I feel like a failure because we don’t have time to read stories, or play on the floor. But at the end of the day I love him so much. 💙 We’re always starting fresh in our house too.

I felt so good watching this video. I have felt like I have lost my patience with my kids these last couple of weeks and all I find myself doing is yelling and then beating myself up over it later. The fact that I'm seeing other Moms go through it, too, is refreshing to me because I know Im not alone and Im not really doing anything wrong. It just happens. Kids dont listen a lot, parents get frustrated and short after so long and you find yourself in a puddle of tears by a certain time and need to start over. I think this is one of my favorite vlogs just for the ending alone!

Bonnie, I love how emotional you are. It makes me feel less crazy when I feel like I need to cry over things that others wouldn't. You are not afraid to admit you are crying/ are going to cry. And then the next moment you burst out into laughter. Being a mom is tough sometimes and I know for myself tears happen.. sometimes daily.. but I know I just need to get them out then I can move on and laugh too ❤️

Bonnie, this is why I love you so much! ❤💕 Us mothers know that it cant be sweet as sugar all the time. It's the way you reacted to your kids after the yelling episode was over that lets me know you are a wonderful mother with a big heart. I can tell you love your children unconditionally. Thanks for sharing a bad with with us. Happy to see the start over at the end. 😊 💜❤💙❤💚❤💛❤

Oof...as a 13 year softball player (I’m 16) that clip of Cody hitting the ice ball with the bat made me cringe! 😂 That’s definitely not good for the bat. It looked like a composite one (don’t quote me on that though because I didn’t get to look at it that good) but those you definitely want to take care of. Besides that 😂 I love your family and your videos so much! 💜

Bonnie I love that you keep it real! I have an 18 month old and feel like I spend my days correcting and redirecting her and trying to stay sweet and calm, just for her to chunk so nothing or hit me and I lose my temper!! I know we have to lay the groundwork for discipline now, but man some days we are both just sick of each other!

I TRULY needed this today. I watch a lot of family vlogs and I'm a momma myself. My husband is military, gone a lot. So I'm home with zero help. I yell a lot. And I cry, a lot. And I always compare myself to what I see online. Or I always say, but my kids don't act as good as those kids. It's so hard to compare each other with social media and it makes it so much harder to understand that not everything is shown. But I just wanted to say thank you so much for being SO real ❤️

I LOVE that you added "start fresh" at the end. We do the same thing with the kids. We make them relax alone for a few minuets where they are secluded amd they get to scream, cry, yell do WHAT EVER they need to do to get everything OUT of their system and when they have been quiet for a few minuets we check on them. Once they have calmed down they say "can we begin again?" and everything is forgiven and they act better and it gives everyone a chance to calm down and relax. So the fact that we get to see thst your days arent always so full of fun and games and laughing it makes everything seem normal

Bonnie, I loved your hair today. I told Ellie that I love both of you when your new cuts are are perfectly straight. You are so right about having to yell at your children at times and also getting so upset you cry. Been there done that. I only had one child, but when he got out of hand, I made him sit on a chair until I told him he could get off. Sitting there with nothing to play with or do, was more punishment than anything else to him. Sometimes he would try to sneak off the chair and I would catch him and then he had to sit even longer. He learned that I was not playing games, that I was serious by doing that. I, to this day, get so upset when children are not disciplined. Don't get me wrong, I love my son with every beat of my heart and he has grown up to be a fine man. He is now 45 and a pharmacist.
