Kayak MUSKY gone BAD (almost flipped)

Ойын-сауық

I made a solo adventure out west to chase the elusive tiger musky. After a very successful trip monday, I head back out before a giant storm to see if the fish would chew! Little did I know it would be a little more than I bargained for...

    Great Job! I did this many years ago in the upper peninsula of Michigan in a sportspal canoe!! It was a square back transom with a 25 or 30lb. thrust Minn Kota trolling motor!! Good times. They don't call them the fish of a 1000 casts for nothing! Glad you made it safe! Good job!

    lol boy I’ve been there. Even when the air was so charged with static electricity my bait would literally hang in the air. And the fiberglass rod would sing as I made every cast. But, fishing was so good. Finally a bolt of lightning sent a clear message. There were others though, that did not leave. I consider them just lucky lol.

    Kristine, you are something. : ) working the pedals with your shins...I like it. Last big musky I caught, not a tiger, was 41 inches and an absolute slob fat fish. I was in my canoe at a lake in Virginia called Hungry Mother. There was a hurricane back at my house on the coast, (Surf City area of North Carolina) so I evacuated to the mountains and camped for a few days and fished. I had heard that there were some big and mostly unfished walleyes in the lake, so I was trolling a live bream for them. Simple Walleye set up, drift style sinker, two feet of line to the bait... five minutes in, I got slammed by what I thought had to be a big catfish...when it skyrocketed like a king mackeral behind the canoe, I knew there was little chance I would see it again. As often is the case in my charmed fishing life, the hook was set perfectly in the corner of the fishes mouth and the teeth were not touching my line. I fought it to the boat on much too light of a rod, and when I put my small landing net in front of it, I laughed...it barely went past its gills. I belly scooped it with one arm while lifting with my net at the same time and plopped it in the canoe. Holy Moly what a ( sort of) mistake!!! It was still pretty fresh and kicked the crap out of all my gear and ate up my right hand as I tried to keep it from getting out before I got to shore paddling with one hand. I got to shore and measured it, revived it a while and sent it back on its way to eat something better than my bait. I stopped at the rangers station that evening to see if I could get some antibiotic cream for my prize bites on my right hand and the rangers asked me for a download of the picture for their brochures. I love a big story and I hope you do not mind me sharing some here. Smiling, George.

    A few weeks ago on Lake Sinai, something similar happened to me. Freak t-storm blew up and caught me across the lake from the ramp. Temp dropped, winds picked up to 35-40 following. Rolled up and secured rods, put phone in dry box and in dry storage as the cold rain started. I peddled my ass off trying to keep from getting rolled since I was trying to quarter it. Cut banks kept me from putting in somewhere closer. Glad I had my PA14 that day! My legs were burned! (Don't skip leg day kiddos)

    Lake Ouachita is my old stomping ground. Most of my experience is night fishing there though. Great fishery!! I scuba dive there as well m. The current temps are mid to upper 80s. Most ppl will be fishing points with drop shots and plastics. We won several local tournaments slow rolling big Colorado blade spinnerbaits. We call them spiders but it started out as a nighttime tactic but carried on through out the day. The lake is full of islands but I catch the bigger fish on deeper points throwing over them, and slow rolling large, single blade spinners. Bc it’s such a clear lake ppl are obsessed with fishing finesse baits..and that does work. However don’t be scared to throw traditional big fish baits out there.Good luck!!!! Get a piece of apple pie at Shangri La 😀😂😂

Lots of incredible geology to appreciate while you're not fishing. Keep your eye open for lucky crystals in the gravel around the lake. A little extra luck on that lake is not a bad thing to have.

  • @kristinefischer2289

    @kristinefischer2289

    5 жыл бұрын

    The only advice for hot water temps is to not target these fish. That’s why I stopped fishing down south. Prior to this trip, I reached out to two locals that fish for them daily here, and verified that temps were safe before I made the drive. (73-74 degrees). They actually said they stop fishing for them when temps hit 80 because of the thermocline, but I still opted to get off the water on the day where temps hit 78 by late afternoon. I guess if you decide to target them that’s your choice, but I would advise heavy gear to get the fish in quickly, keep the fish in the net at ALL times, only take the fish out for the few seconds to get a pic and then make sure you’re able to revive it.

    I enjoy your videos. Very informative. I'm a 55 year old female. I currently have a Jon boat with a trolling motor but I can't load it into my pickup by myself. I want a pedal drive fishing kayak that I can load and unload by myself so that I can go to other bass fisheries nearby. I'm not sure I can lift the pedal drives into the rear of the truck bed by myself. I'd rather not get into the trailer situation. I would appreciate any advice you could give me regarding Kayak suggestions/weights/carts/ Tbones. Thanks again.

    This was probably the most nervous I’ve ever been. I couldn’t cross the main lake. Had to go behind the cove and hug the bank. That’s another thing, my video on shows the wind back in the cove... not what was going on out on the main. It was scary! Boats loaded up faster than I could blink an eye!

    @@kristinefischer2289Yeah, it gets sketchy sometimes. PA is not the best kayak for rough water, outback is much better and lighter. Unfortunately, bad weather may start suddenly, so you should be ready. Try to turn you bow or stern into the wind, do not allow wind to blow to the side, practice self rescue, wear PFD and learn to swim well. Kayak fishing may turn very dangerous if you don't practice those skill. Check the weather before you go. Good luck!

    Ppl that use live bait for musky or bedding bass are just eh in my eyes... Go learn how to fish and challenge yourself to trick that fish into biting a lure, fishing live bait doesnt make you a Angler it makes you a fish catcher lol thats it... If you need the fish for food I have no problem with ppl using live bait on any fish but If your doing it for sport to catch Trophy fish its like what are you doing bro? Lol Kids using live bait is cool too ya know but im talking about ppl that call themselves anglers and they fish everyday for sport... Ya know where is the skill in putting a bait fish on hook with a bobber and throwing it out and waiting??? Does anybody else feel that way? Im not trying to be mean or a a-hole its just an opinion. I see the same group of older guys on my home lake bragging about the bass they catch every weekend when they get off the lake and they have 10 reels thrown out with bobbers and baitfish , its like how are you bragging like you worked hard for those fish?? haha They dont like me cause when they tried to brag to me I wasnt having it so now they fly by me with there boat every weekend to try to flip me on my kayak, lol sore losers. They just sit there drinking beer and smoking cigarettes waiting for bobbers to go under, they have taken 8+ pounders out the lake to mount them even after multiple ppl told them just take pictures and measurements and the taxidermist can mount that fish without the fish, so maybe someone else thats fishing can catch that fish one day but Nope they take there ball and run home to brag!!! Sorry for the rant that live bait triggered me hahahahah Anybody else know ppl like that?
