    When you do end up swimming, IMMEDIATELY get your body between the wave and Kayak, the kayak can then not slam into you and you can control it by holding (Tie a piece of parrachord onto the nose tip loop) the nose with one hand as a wave crash by. Don't ever paddle into the ocean with your rods up like that, tie shit down man!

  • @Beyondthebreakers
    @Beyondthebreakers5 жыл бұрын

    Never ever stay between your kayak and the beach, always get on the ocean side. Always wear your life west. Secure those hooks and put some foam around your rods, so they will float. Attach everything to the kayak. You were doing pretty good, just need a new kayak and learn basic safety tricks. If you roll over, never try to flip the kayak back in the surf. First of all, your kayak should be on the shore side and you on the ocean side, then just tow kayak to the shore at 90 degree to the waves, flip it back in the calmer water, then hold either bow or stern and once your hit the sand, spin kayak around and drag it to the shore. now go and recover your gear. Remember, your well being in #1, then 2 nd the most important task it to get kayak to the beach, this prevents injuries of other people around, the last task is to recover your gear. Good luck.

    My advice for newbies would be - Don't ever stop paddling momentum is your friend and with out it your a sitting duck. - Always stay square to the wave on your way out this is just as important as momentum, as soon as your even the slightest angle to a decent wave it's going to tip you (a rudder can help with this) - If there's some decent swell with numerous sets coming in maybe look at going somewhere else, I've loaded all my gear onto the yak before dragged it down to the water only to think bugger this and pack it back into vehicle to go somewhere else. - Don't cheap out on the yak, If your serious about yak fishing buy a decent one, They have compartments and things for your rods and all your tackle, everything is nice and organized so you don't lose anything. I have had f ups just like most yak fisherman, You learn through experience 👍👍

Unfortunately, you have to pay your do's, getting humbled trying to pass the breakers, also landing on the beach, and the old losing expensive gear not having them leashed up, also no cheapo Walmart brand kayaks, get yourself a Hobie Revo 13 or the Hobie Ouback. Hope you pass your initiation to BTB KAYAK FISHING, it's the only way to fish. On my fifth year Kayak fishing in south Florida.

    Definitely power through, so you can get to the next one before it swells and crashes. Did you notice how easy it was at the top of a swell, as opposed to going through it as it crashed? Also, put a thin line on all your gear, so you don't lose anything. It's ok if it falls out of the boat, but at least you won't lose anything. Glad you made it out ok and no one was hurt. Thanks for taking the trouble to make a video!

  • @Vermonstered

    @Vermonstered

    Жыл бұрын

    @@dalethebelldiver7740 Simple. Water is malleable, a kayak is not. Wave hits you while you're touching the kayak that 6" gap between you isn't going to damage you. Wave hits the kayak mass and accelerates it into your body parts that's 150lbs of kayak and gear + water pressure being held behind a rigid kayak smacking into you. Plenty of energy to break bones. Adding more weight to the kayak isn't going to help. As you don't have the buoyancy to play with as kayak capacity limits are low already. Just makes you more likely to sink it.
