Four of the ten canoe racing clubs on Kauai were able to get flights and accommodations so they could send teams to the Hawaii Canoe Racing Association State Championships at Hilo Bay on the island of Hawaii.
Our athletes showed up and delivered great performances in the canoes made from koa wood. Several teams scored medals and came home heroes. Not every team did as well as they hoped to but it's worth acknowledging that being able to compete at the state level is still a win even if your boat was last place. Congratulations to everyone who was able to participate.
Every single athlete who was able to attend the championships owes their coaches and the many other volunteers a debt of gratitude for making it possible to train and compete. There is an incredible amount of work that takes place behind the scenes of each club and it's the outstanding people who show up to volunteer their time and efforts to make it happen that are responsible for the huge success we've seen this season.
