Thank you for this tutorial! My daughter and I just joined a canoe club and the Huli Joe training is something I am dreading- knowledge is power and this tutorial is very clear. Will be sharing with the other new ladies!

Safety tips from past experience!! Bailers tie them in with weak string so they can be broken. Going to emergency, safety radio, sarbe, strobe lights, flares. Flotation aids, Inform harbour master or coast guard of your intentions. Check weather, sea state. Forecast!! Safety boats, are wise, especially for race events? If in doubt, don't go out? Plan your paddle, paddle your plan.

Super good video, thank you! I like having those who climb over the boat and pull the ama over go out to the ama and hold it down, then everyone else can climb in from the left non-ama side, more efficient and faster than swimming around the boat to get in on the right.

I had a paddling race this weekend for the beginning of the season and my crew already hulied halfway through, but we recovered quickly

False Creek! I know where that is since we vacationed in Vancouver this summer.

Thing is, paddlers generally should be wearing their flotation vests. So practice huli recovery while wearing same, since your buoyancy will be a bit greater so this will affect your movements in the water, for example submerging under the hull.

Nice start, but would’ve been more helpful seeing how everyone re-enters the boat. Video cut off as the other seats were getting in. Notice everyone uses a different technique to propel their bodies back into the boat.

you need longer iakos for that boat, then no huli!

Learn how to enter the canoe for huli and water changes. Don't land on your ribs. People break ribs on the gunnel.
