This production was amazing, it gave me a different perspective of world war 2. It actually made me feel bad for the young Germans of that generation and sympathize with them, they were all brain-washed by their 3rd Reich's and Nazi propaganda and by the time they realized about it, it was too late. They also wanted the war to be over, they also wanted to go home but they had no choice. The worst is that once the war was over, they lost everything, no home, cities destroyed, families and friends gone and the entire world hate them, amazing production!

We are the ones,this generation,past generations who are the brainwashed. History is written by the victors,your understanding of that time is less than you even realise,than you could even imagine. Propoganda was spewed by all sides,and if you think the Germans were "the bad guys", or the "Nazi's" were pure evil,you dont understand anything,least of all about how the treaty of Versaille affected Germany and Europe after 1918.

the best movie about world war II. I have ever seen. because we dont have any information about german side. and this movie shows human side of german in the war. ofcourse nazis made many mistakes and war crimes to other side and civillians but ı think what was the feelings of german nation in this war is answered in a good way.

The woman singing it is so beautiful!

This movie was about 5 ordinary people who were friends in 1941, and it shows their experiences throughout the war. It is a sad movie with a even sadder ending, because not all of them made it. The ones that survived met at the same place they met in 1941.

There have been many fates in war just like his. Friedhelms story is the plot of a movie, but millions expirienced the same thing in war. It‘s a good thing to honour your ancestors and pay respects to those who have fallen. Not only those who fell for your nation but also those who fell for the enemy, as they also only followed commands and where soldies just like our forefathers who fought for Germany.

Or is that propaganda to? Did you see this series? I thought it was pretty good. And thats not because im a neonazi, thats because it a good mini serie. Schindlers list was also a great film even though the depictions were horrible. Hotel Rwanda the same. In a way i liked the fact that i didnt knew the actors so it felt more real/anominoes. I love Tom Hanks' movies, but he is allways "still" Tom Hanks. And i what i mean with "felt more real", by that i mean normally series from USA/UK or Dutch you know most of the faces. Like the viewer LITTERALLY follows random civilians. But i dont have the feeling that the makers of this series wanted to "nuance" or "tries to explain/justify" what happened... Sure, inaccuraties will be there. Sure the depection of the polish resistance is disputed online (even though it is established that not everybody was jew-hating). Would you call the pianist a shitty movie because the german at the end gives him a shot at life? *bit of a stretch ;) But propaganda? If this series would portray all the actions like heroic i wouldnt made it through part1. But it was good wasting time on you because i dont think you even tried to understand what i said.... nazis = bad, therefor context doesnt matter. @@magdalenabuttner5398 Ja und ich finde er zeigt auch schön wie sich Menschen in solch einem Krieg verändern. Bei Friedhelm wird das gut gezeigt. Am Anfang will er überhaupt nicht in den Krieg ziehen und will damit auch nicht gross etwas zu tun haben. Mit der Zeit kann er aber problemlos unschuldige Menschen exekutieren. Der Krieg wird nur das schlechteste in uns hervorbringen.

He sacrifices his life to show the Volkssturm kinder that war isn't all jingoistic slogans. It's bullets, blood, shit and piss. Although I'm not sure surrendering to Soviet troops is a wise thing.

Thank you for posting this Vlad. The song is beautifully performed. Watching this in the context of the film was very poignant. Looking at the setting where the song is performed, I wonder if it's Hansa Ton studio where Bowie recorded "Heroes" I've only seen the first episode of Unsere Mütter, unsere Väter so far and it gripped me to see the war from the German perspective So far it reminds me of Paul Verhoeven's Black Book and Band of Brothers.
