Kate Rusby, Blooming Heather aka Wild Mountain Thyme

Kate Rusby performs "Blooming Heather" at the 2007 Cambridge Folk Festival-Lyrics below:
Oh the summertime is coming
And the trees are sweetly blooming
And the wild mountain thyme
Grows around the blooming heather
Will ye go, Lassie go?
Chorus
And we'll all go together
To pull wild mountain thyme
All around the blooming heather
Will ye go, Lassie go?
I will build my love a tower
By yon' pure crystal fountain
And on it I will pile
All the flowers of the mountain
Will ye go, Lassie go?
Chorus
And we'll all go together
To pull wild mountain thyme
All around the blooming heather
Will ye go, Lassie go?
If my true love she were gone
I would surely find another
To pull wild mountain thyme
Grows around the blooming heather
Will ye go, Lassie go?
Chorus
And we'll all go together
To pull wild mountain thyme
All around the blooming heather
Will ye go, Lassie go?

Kate, your singing always mesmerizes me, but certain songs especially do, and this is one of them. You could sing from the phone book and it would be beautiful. Thank you for sharing your God-given talent with us.

Kudos to everyone involved. The band and strings did an outstanding job on that well-arranged rendition. Hell, the camerawork and videography was good too. Thank you TV4 for filming this wonderful moment. I so would like to have been there. I love the song since Joan Baez sang it to some friends of my mother in 1966. This song is the reason I wanted to learn to play music. Anyway, thank you Kate.

@@andrewpaul4442 the original, lyrics by Tannahill, music by Robert Archibald Smith, was actually called "The Braes of Balquhither". You'll find it here on YT. It was 'adapted by Belfast musician Francis McPeake (1885-1971) into "Wild Mountain Thyme" and first recorded by his family in the 1950s' [wikipedia]. To my ears they're very different from each other. I presume that's why the modern song usually gets a dual Scottish/Irish nationality.
