Wild Mountain Thyme - The Petersens (LIVE)
Музыка
"Wild Mountain Thyme" was our favorite song we learned while touring Ireland. It has Scottish origins and there are many different versions out there, but we consulted Pat Kelleher, a friend we met on our first tour, and had him send us his arrangement. Hope you all enjoy it!

►LYRICS - Wild Mountain Thyme
O, the summertime is comin'
And the trees are sweetly bloomin'
And the wild mountain thyme
Grows around the bloomin' heather
Will you go, lassie, go?
And we'll all go together
To pluck wild mountain thyme
All around the bloomin' heather
Will you go, lassie, go?
I will build my love a bower
Near yon pure crystal fountain
And on it I will place
All the flowers of the mountain
Will you go, lassie, go?
And we'll all go together
To pluck wild mountain thyme
All around the bloomin' heather
Will you go, lassie, go?
If my true love, she were gone*
I would surely find another
Where the wild mountain thyme
Grows around the bloomin' heather
Will you go, lassie, go?
And we'll all go together
To pluck wild mountain thyme
All around the bloomin' heather
Will you go, lassie, go?
Will you go, lassie, go?
Will you go, lassie, will you go?
If you are not familiar with the Scottish landscape:
Thyme - a herb
Heather - a plant that carpets the ground / ct1yk3vqsba
Lassie - a young woman
Bower - a leafy shelter like the one behind Emmett at 1:46
* Fun fact: Traditional Irish musician Francis McPeake came across this folk song on his travels of Scotland, and he rewrote and brought it to Ireland in the 1950s. He dedicated the song to his wife, and his son later added an extra verse to celebrate his father's second marriage.

Katie is charming, adorable and is absolutely a master of her craft. I would love to play & sing with her one day.
Well, isn't that just the sweetest song. And so delicately performed. Katie's traditional intro, Matt's calming voice, the spot on harmonies by Ellen and Julz, Emmett's magical dobro, Karen's tasteful bass playing, the attention given to the colors, the gorgeous backdrop and the great audio. In other words, another trademark Petersens video. If it had a blue sky and a funny outro it would have been totally perfect😉, but stunning job guys.

Unbelievably beautiful - all of you lovely musicians. What a rendering of this song!
Well, we're all still singing this song here in Scotland, in the pubs and clubs and schools and everybody in the audience has known the words from childhood and sings along in the chorus. This is a sweet version, nice and gentle, as it was meant to be sung. It's nicely enhanced by Emmet's, as always, melancholy and melodic playing.

My 18-month-old granddaughter sat staring at Katie's intro and rewound it and listened again totally focused on the screen. Thanks guys for helping instill that love of music in the next generation.
The fiddle has such. A mornfull sound. It really captures the essence of this song,,
This gave me goosebumps! I was born and raised in Nova Scotia. I heard this so much growing up!!
the slide guitarist is a genius
Great arrangement and brilliantly played. Well done
Matt - this may be your best performance i've ever seen!.
To my greatest regret, I only found out about you yesterday. Since then, I can't get enough of you, even though I'm an ugly picky performing arts fan. It is a special gift to watch and hear you - thank you for the opportunity!
I just listened to the Corries version of this and KZread gave me this one, and the tears are streaming down my face. This is an American echo of our homeland. It's beautiful. Thank you.
Beautiful.... this song always brings a tear to my eyes......
Listened again...and it's the arrangement as well as Matt's fine voice. The song builds slowly, the fiddle laying the foundation, the guitar raising the walls, that voice filling the rooms, the banjo the light sparkling through the windowa...andvthat harmony capping it all off!
What I feel: peace and serenity. Today no wind, no background noise, the sound is perfect. Is it real? In front of a dreamy landscape, Katie, always talented, sets the tone under the warm look of Ellen (by the way, as usual, each member of the group turns to the soloist with a knowing and benevolent smile). And then the presentation is judicious: Matt, harmoniously accompanied, has really the voice for this song; Katie and Emmet frame perfectly our vocal trio and finally mother Karen, always in the background, who brings with her touch the indispensable tempo necessary to the whole. One word for this remarkable adaptation: thank you
Wow, just found this channel right now. I'm from Dublin, Ireland and lemme tell ya, this is such a beautiful rendition. Really captures the soul of the song. Well played Petersens! Next time you're in Ireland get in touch!
A lifelong favorite performed by my new favorite group.
Greetings from Glasgow Scotland., best version I’ve heard 🏴🇺🇸
I've been a folk singer most of my life. I cannot sing this song without crying. And I can't even listen to it without crying. I'm crying a lot (not a bad thing, just an emotional one).
I love hearing yalls music. And seeing how you all stay true to yourselves as you preform is amazing. My little girls are growing up in a scary place and to see your talent not be amplified by fake portrayal of fame and excess is nothing short of beautiful. Your entire act is incredible and all of you are excellent role models across multiple generations. Thank you for your unwavering consistency.

I've heard this song by dozens of artists over many decades. Wonderful version, once again Petersens! As I listened to the intro, Katie added many distinctive flourishes that I was not expecting, but she's got that fifth string, so she might as well use them all. 😉

Grand song, sung so sweetly, what a lovely gift to wake up to, love to all from us here in New Zealand…..
A beautiful song with the perfect setting.
Its so nice to see a young generation who loves the old time music where songs had values and meanings to teach people to love and respect life . Great job Petersons keep up the good work . Its very obvious that values and morals mean way more to you than wealth so be very proud of yourselves
What a beautiful family you have raised, mother Petersen. You all make life worth living!
I love this song and The Petersons did an awesome cover of it. There’s one thing about this family and it’s they always find the person who has the perfect voice for every song that they sing.
You just hit a string with me, this is not normally my type of music. But I am already in love!!! The ease you this with, wow, blows me away.
Hey folks, I really do appreciate Your work. Wild Mountain Thyme is one of my most beloved Irish / Scotch ballads. Your Cover is very elegant. Thanks for makink my day (y)
Katie's fill in verse 2 is as beautiful as it gets.
YALL DID THIS BALLAD SO BEAUTIFULLY THAT IT ALMOST HURTS MY HEART. MUSIC SO ANGELIC SHOULD BE PLAYED WITH A MOUNTAIN LAKE IN THE BACKGROUND, WITH A SUNSETTING. I LOVE THE BALLADS FROM IRELAND, FROM THE APPALACHIANS, FROM THE SOUTH. GOD BLESS AND PROTECT YOUR TRAVELS.
Thank you Petersen family for giving me a smile on this day I hope everyone has a happy and blessed weekend. Happy 4th!!
Sgoinneil! (That's Scottish Gaelic for brilliant). I have loved this song for many many years. I was so delighted to hear your version of this beautiful tune. You are such an amazing famil! Beautiful would be a good word to describe you. You are beautiful not only in looks, but in the talent and music you share with us all, and in your obvious love one for another. May the journey ahead bring you all much happiness and success!
I think the lassie deserves full disclosure; the only way to the wild mountain thyme 'round the bloomin' heather is through the thick Scottish gorse! Thanks for the beautiful rendition.
Wow Nice. one of my favorite songs as well.. I first herd this song when I was tramping around the states and went to a Byrds concert. that was in the 1967 I think.. Still love it today and you have just made my day... Thank you.
Matt is an excellent guitar player with a pleasant voice and The way Katie plays the fiddle with such grace...everyone is talented. That is why we recognize them as the number 1 in the whole world.

Yep, also surprised about that and how they haven't done some other traditional songs; such as: Shenandoah, Early One Morning, Hallelujah, and The Riddle Song(to name a few). Hopefully they will.
It's all perfect... Such a great arrangement to an incredible traditional song! And that Dobro... 🤯
your music started out great and magically still gets sweeter, you could perform many different genres of music, but imho your ''Wild Mountain Thyme'' is as close to perfection as it gets ... and it even makes me nostalgic for places i ve seldom been
I love your violin playing Katie. I could listen to you play all day.
The intro by Katie was wonderful and Matt’s voice was just as wonderful for this song heck the rest of the band were just as good too!
Inexpressibly beautiful. Another all round humdinger from all the Petersens and Emmet. Matt's voice really grows on me the more I hear it, so relaxing. Greetings from Ireland, where dappled Sun and clouds are lighting up the mountains as I write -- it's a bit early in the year for purple heather but you're making me want to get out on the Dublin foothills right now.
Truly a wonderfully done rendition of this beautiful song, enhanced by breath-taking surroundings. So inspirational!
I really enjoyed listening to this version. I love the song, and I’ve heard many folks talk about the meaning of it. The lyrics indicate a yearning for someone, a man who is looking for a sweetheart.
This brought tears to my eyes! Very well done!

Wow Best version of this song I've ever heard!!!!
Every single member of The Petersens is great, and has a great amount of talent! In this video, Matt's singing is great. I'm of Irish descent on my Dad's side, and I have always been drawn to this song. Finally, I want to add that at the beginning, Ellen's expressions looking at Katie while playing the violin says it all - Katie plays with unbelievable talent and ability, but also with all her heart - which is what sets Katie above 99% of musicians and singers out there...
Matt, that transcended space and time and sent me to a higher dimension. Believe me, I never talk like that.
Matt this is definitely your best! Well done my good sir!
Gorgeous, gorgeous instrumentation (including the vocal instruments). Thank you.

Great performance, as always. I enjoy hearing you play Celtic music and this one is a fine example. Its so-called mother song, The Braes of Balquhidder, is equally beautiful and although there are some musical similarities they each stand up on their own in my opinion.
