Yes it is a great song written by an Irish poet called W.B.Yeats.

This song reminds me so much of my childhood. My father used to sing this song to me when I was younger. Would love to go back to those uncomplicated days again! 😢

I’m a mexican guy and discovered this song. I loved it’s wonderful! My mind it’s so big in musical likes so there are music from the thousands of countries and this is special.

English for me used to be distant and far out of reach for me... and now I feel so fortunate to be surrounded with lots of great works written and performed in this language. I first read W. B. Yeats's Down by the Sally Gardens and I was deeply moved by how time flies and how it makes people's remembrance of the past have such a great impact upon all of us. And now, listening to this song performed by the very talented Irish singer Maura O'Connell makes me believe art is our universal language. True talents do stand the test of time!

I taught English to non native speakers for many years. And yours is excellent.

I learned this beautiful song when I lived in Galway, Ireland for 11 years. Now, back in Germany, I have performed it a few times with my own Galway Girl Laura. And for the past few months, this has been a standard lullaby for our 5-months-old half Irish-half-German daughter Tara. One of the most beautifully sentimental songs I have the fortune to know. Beautiful performance, too!

i first knew this lyrics as a peom of Yeats when I was in my 10th grade, and a few years after I realized that it has been composed as a beautiful song as well. I felt so related to the poem to some unknown reason, that it fills my eyes with tears every time I listen to it

I cried when I was listening to this record..

This is THE best version of this beautiful song, for me. I hate it when opera singers take it on, it changes the whole context of the song! It's an Irish folk song and only singers like Maura can give it creedence. IMHO...So gorgeous thank you for posting. My choir is singing this, I hope we do it justice but it is your version I listen to.

When I was in middle choir this was the best song we ever sung. I still love it till this day. So much memory within one song!

If you watch a video of a live performance by Maura, you notice everyone is like in a trance, this is how it is with her, being at one of her performances.

It's a sad beautiful song. It often makes me cry.

Maura & Karan do Sally Gardens beautifully. When I was a teenager I was a drummer in a accordion band and won the all Ireland . For me personally its the timing that makes or breaks the song .

Very well done people. The vocals were lovely as were the instruments.The dobro was a somewhat surprising addition to a traditional Irish ensemble, but woven in quite masterfully. All in all a tasteful and enchanting rendition.

This is a beautiful performance of a beautiful song. Exquisite. Moving.

Did this song as a solo for a Solo/Ensemble Contest in my Sophomore Year of Highschool. Was my second favorite song to sing for Solo Ensemble, This was such a beautiful rendition and the slide in her voice is something I can only dream to be able to actually pull off!!

The beauty of the song and performance stopped me in my tracks. My eyes wet with love and melancholy.

when I arrived in Clifden, Connemarra after travelling from Germany and visited Roundstone, Cleggan, Inish Bofin and climbed the Tully Mountain .... I felt the heartbeat of this awesome country have a look ...........
