Katatonia talk about their influences throughout their career and in creating new album, Night Is The New Day, available on Peaceville Records.
Possibly the greatest heavy record I have heard in the last ten years... it truly is a masterpiece. Mikael Åkerfeldt (Opeth)
the Swedes have quite possibly penned their very own masterpiece...
...this record is a mind-bending odyssey of melodies, moods, colours and soundscapes; labyrinthian ambience, glorious heights, despairing lows and the type of awe-inspiring set of chapters which demand an instant replay. This is truly classic Katatonia, and of unprecedented quality.
9/10 Rocksound
'an album staggering in both its ambition and its accessibility, showcasing beauty and despair in equal measure.'
4.5/5 One Metal

Night is the New Day is one of my favourite records of all time. Every song is perfect and the pacing is spot on, I never get sick of hearing the album.

Katatonia has always been different from other metal bands in that many of their influences are not in metal. This video shows that well. I have huge respect for them.

No kidding. Bands like The cure and Depeche Mode influenced Trent Reznor as well.

That was such an interesting video. I would never have guessed Jeff Buckley was an inspiration for Jonas' vocals. Amazing band.

I love The Cure. No matter what extreme metal band I'm into, or whatever new music I like, The Cure is my favorite band. Although I was a little disappointed with their latest album... =/ The new Katatonia album is the seriously amazing.

Ana Leyva Oh yeah! You can hear the influence on Tonight's Decision. But it's even more prominent on Last Fair Deal Gone Down. Jeff Buckley was really great. It's a shame he's no longer around.

Weird, everybody I've spoken with loves it and says it's their best. Sure, I don't believe it before I hear it, but I love the sources from where they've gotten inspiriation..

Top Bands have similar influences since music is not subjective as we thought. There is a combination of notes depending on the soul of the human life. I'm very happy to see J.Buckley in influence list of Katatonia.

A little bit. But I think the similarity is a bit overstated. The closest song by Opeth to Idle Blood is Harvest. And Harvest has a pretty different feel and atmosphere to it (mostly due to the guitars)
