I was heavy into death metal and was eager to check out the band Kataklysm. When I got to the store I couldn't remember which band was which and grabbed Katatonia Last Fair Deal instead. Best mistake I've ever made.

long live jonas
"we can be quite annoying" "yeah" lolol
Fantastic interview. Really enjoyed this and the questions asked. Jonas is such an intriguing and sweet person.
Jonas is a GENIOUS... and his humble attitude confirm that. Excelent interview, is teh same guy that we hear on his songs.
Jonas is the best, I love him. He says that the lyrics has to go hand in hand with the music, and that's why they are dark, but the lyrics have become darker and more depressive in recent years, the Viva Emptiness was not like that. I think he's more depressed now than in the past, as am I, so it fits perfectly. It's weird how his lyrics always addresses what I'm going through at the time, Katatonia has become like the soundtrack of my life.
Great, lengthy intelligent interview with a metal artist... that's becoming rare to see these days. Good job!

Luiz Felipe Netto in fact I was really impressed. The guy always insisted when Jonas dont answer exactly was he was questioning
One of the best interviewer's ever to speak with Jonas. really nice job !
Probably the best interview with Jonas, ever.
10:00 very interesting thoughts about the depressive nature of the music. Yeah, if obsessed about it can sort of feed the same mental pathways, but at the same time it's good to sort of relate the shitty feelings through bluesy music and get it reflected outside of oneself. There's just a sense of credibility and authenticity there that makes one feel connected which is often overlooked. I would call Katatonia gothic blues metal.
I first heard Katatonia on myspace. Since then I have listened and loved all of their albums. I must say that if there was another band like Katatonia I would recommend them, but there isn't one. They are amazing!
Great interview... This guy actually asked intelligent interesting questions, well done.
True musicians making killer music that is pretty much timeless, 10000000000x better then the mainstream crap that they try to shove down our throats today.. keep it up guys.
I would love to see Paradise Lost and Katatonia do a collaboration.

That would be a dream.. Especially one song with both vocals of Jonas and Nick
I so appreciate the music they make, one of a kind.
Thanks you Mr. MetalBlastTV for the interview! Love this band and their music style. I don't know how you keep your cool while interviewing metal Gods \m/!!
This is a REALLY interesting interview, these questions were so great.
Interesting question you asked about these guys having families and kids and still producing this type of music from a dark place in their heads, for almost 30 years straight. You have guys like Devin Townsend giving up making a specific type of "angry" music simply because the anger has dissipated or changed form over time. To me as a listener and a fan, this type of music has always had a cathartic effect -- it makes me feel better even though it's objectively miserable. I wonder how cathartic it is to make it? And how does that catharsis affect and change the relationship with the music once it's done, or when they're performing it night after night? How does it shape and evolve the music they make subsequently? Maybe some things to explore in future interviews. Great interview, thanks.

+Sirtaj Kang I think in that sense Devin seems to have a more "healthy" representation. He's terribly honest about his music, and as such writes in the current state he's at. It's been inspiring to see him go from angry, depressed SYL, to introspective DTP, from Addicted, to Deconstruction, to Epicloud, etc.
Some really well thought out questions here. I enjoyed this interview a lot.
They should tour the world soon!
Excellent interview :-)
Good interview

I bet that phone is more dependable than your iphone x
I wonder if the interviewer had to cover a certain time, 'cause even though the interview got into interesting themes, Jonas looks a little uncomfortable in some parts like the interviewer keeps pushing him to talk more, dude he's not Steven that's his answer, let him go XD

Nope, not at all.
Nice review but completely disagree with what black metal is. Black metal is rebellion, to go somewhere unexplored, sounding like Darkthrone or early Satyricon breaks no new ground and the band I mentioned did go somewhere new. There should be no strict rules to what black metal should be. For example, I consider Panopticon, WITTR, Immortal, Darkthrone all black metal. It's just that spirit of olde, doesn't need to be occult or evil sounding, it's preferable but not necessary. Just my take.
Хороші були часи,коли банда працювала разом на повну.Після цього синглу і залишені гурту Даніелем Ліліквістом, как ататонія ду ЖЖ е змінилась,не в кращу сторону,нажаль.😢
Oh yeah fields of the nephilim is not a band to be overlooked
Hmm... No offense here, but how come Jonas says he doesn't think re-recording the old material is a good idea, yet just a month before this interview Katatonia has put out a re-recording of Viva Emptiness?! And he didn't even mention it. Weird...

I don't think it was re-recorded. It was re-mixed. Seems like semantics but re-recording might be a little weird.

Actually, it _was_ in fact partially re-recorded, in addition to being remixed. The keyboard parts are all new. And in some songs, there are even new keyboard passages in places where originally there were none. And on top of that, there are vocals on Inside The City Of Glass. So it's definitely more than just a remix. So they actually point out they're dissatisfied with the sound of Viva Emptiness (see katatonia.com/2013/06/viva-emptiness-10th-year-anniversary-re-issue-and-tour/), they put out a partially re-made re-release (which, in all honesty, _does_ sound different, and is not just a quality upgrade), and then Jonas says how he sees no reason to be dissatisfied in things like that, and how if you mess with stuff from a long time ago you can become a parody of yourself, and doesn't even mention what they did. Isn't that a little bit hypocritical?
can you say who this legendary singer was? no god dammit! sorry
