Riot deserves shit for a lot of things they do but their lore retcons are good without a doubt.

"Du Couteau" is pronounced "Du Kooto". Couteau is French for knife and "Du" means "of the" so it's as if her name was Katarina of the Knife. "Du" was usually part of the noble french families' last names and is still fairly common in some family names

Riot seems concerned with pursuing money as much as possible with their new projects and MMORPGs are known to be the less profitable games right now. Plus the don't really have the staff to create an MMORPG I think. Maybe in the future idk, but I'm not optimistic

You're probably remembering it wrong because General Du Couteau was still around/wasn't missing at the time. We know this due to the fact Katarina was ambushed by Talon on orders from General Du Couteau while she was on her way to kill Demetrius in an attempt to correct her mistake in seeking glory. (On a side note, one thing that's wrong in the video is that Talon didn't simply outright choose not to kill her. He fully intended to do so, but he missed his mark, giving Katarina the scar over her eye in the process and due to his failure he realized that he was no better than her and ultimately decided not to kill her.)

@@jacket7241 Depends on how far you want to go back for "old lore". There was a period where Riot actually had hired writers as part of their team and worked to expand their fantasy world. Journal of Justice is one example and the characters often had "trials" where they would have much lengthier lore passages that would flesh them out. Sure, maybe the beta was garbage for lore, and League is never going to have the most intense writing, but the writing was objectively better back when they had actual real writers on staff.
