The story of the Kashubian strawberry began over 100 years ago, and since 2009 it has been an EU-certified regional product. It is believed that the specific microclimate of the Kashubian Lake District - cold summer nights and scorching heat during the day - is responsible for the particularly sweet aroma of the fruit.

Danuta Ptach and her husband Piotr grow strawberries on two hectares. In summer, harvesting, selling and processing determine their lives. Their daughters Kamila and Paulina are always finding new ways to use the strawberries in the kitchen. For breakfast they serve pancakes with a spicy strawberry filling. And they are also delicious as "kogel-mogel" - a dessert with semolina and zabaglione cream. Furthermore, fish dishes, such as fried vendace, are typical of the lake-rich region. Hearty pierogi, for example with a sauerkraut and mushroom filling, are a speciality not only in Kashubia but throughout Poland.
