This was an incredible episode. My father suffered from depression for a while and remember seeing him. This is one brave guy. Can see his experience in some of my gambling friends. It’s a terrible addiction and destroys lives. Well done you and well done Karl as it’s takes some bollocks to tell the story.

@@thomaskendell8146 tbf I don’t watch most episodes cause I’ve no clue who the players are and tend to skip the intro hahaha
You know what, respect to this kid for opening up and being so honest, I have met him and he was a decent polite lad. I am genuinely glad he’s getting the better of his demons.
Hope people give this episode the time it deserves. To begin with his stories were funny, but I won't lie, I kept thinking - "what a stupid reason to thrown a career in football away for" But for him to own it and bring himself back from suck a low and talk openly about his troubles. Fair play to him.
Such a powerful interview. Wish him all the best, it looks like he's really turned his life around and made a positive out of a very tough situation. Huge respect.
Just got back from the Blackpool live show. Straight onto this week’s episode. Can’t get enough of it lads!! Brilliant show by the way.
Cracking episode this. Its always the ones u dont expect. I love lads like this who are relatable to the average punter. And refreshingly honest / humble.
Probably the best one yet this and I've listened to all of em.
Brilliant these shows lads Keep them coming!!! 💯💯
Played with kolley at belper town what a player and bloke 👏 pridey
Great episode this. I love the funny ones and the crazy stories, but also good to highlight the other side, thought he came across really well and owned all his mistakes. Good luck to him going forward
All the best to Karl, great to hear the amazing work he is doing. The experiences he has been through is invaluable and will do a lot of good to help others. 👏🏻
48.20 ish...It was "United sign Newcastle ACE" remember reading it on a Sheffield Star sign in town.
Enjoyed that lads, full of authenticity, transparency and lessons for people. Fair play to Karl to confronting his alter-ego and helping others out there! Of which there will probably be many who are struggling to open up.
Really gripping episode this lads!

Fantastic podcast! Karl strikes me as a case of someone who just happened to be gifted at football and made a living off it. He comes across as intelligent and articulate and I can't fathom how the Karl on this podcast is that absolute mad man who existed as a player. Incredible story. Well done for turning his life around !
Went to secondary school with Karl... what a watch this was.. Well done for speaking about this take me hat off to ya 🙌
Great episode
One of my best pals ever was a football hooligan with PSG, he totally flipped to become one of the nicest guys ever
He's no Billy whitehurst!!!

quality podcast. i like karl, and wish him all the best. top man. really enjoyed this.
Brilliant listen this lads cheers
What xompany does Karl work for? Could you provide a link?
I worked in mental health as a support worker, most rewarding job ive ever had, karl, well done, it helped massively with my mental health, hope it helps you 👍
I imagine the stories probably all got back to the club cos he couldn't stop telling people about them.
Spoke very well there Colley, or as my mum used to call him 'The Big Un' when he played local football
Tough listen this one lads. Really goes to show how the MH umbrella is being spread thinly when it's used to justify absolute terrible life choices - in this case throwing away the chance of a good pro career for fighting and drinking.

Interesting one this, I am always happy to hear about Newcastle, I went to uni in Sheffield and lived there for 20 years so it’s nice to hear a tale from both cities. I moved back to the toon cos it’s much better.

I can at least personally relate to quite a bit of what he’s saying but we’re still all allowed an opinion based on seeing those mentioned & many others like them in their prime & hearing the stories from people that were in & around them.. maybe it’s the fact I’d never heard of this lad or hardly anyone mention him.. unlike those I’ve mentioned or say the likes Billy Whitehurst for example..🤷🏼 🧐👍🏻

What a great episode. He comes across as a fairly normal guy who has fought a constant battle with his demons with zero help or understanding from those around him. As Chris says at the end he would be a great example to put before academy players for what they should be looking out for and the need to seek help as soon as something is not quite right.

Comes across as a normal young man who wasted an incredible opportunity to become a pro footballer. Why is that everyone else's fault before it's his own?
@martinharvey2390
22 күн бұрын
@Mr___X I didn't interpret it as he was trying to blame everyone else, I think he's pretty aware of how he's effectively self destructed, I guess he was crying out for help but never sought it probably because he was too naive to realise he was the only person who could help him or at least get help. My immediate reaction was he seems a bit schizophrenic.
Sheffield Wednesday had the Best Football hooligan firm in Sheffield EBRA - OCS in the 1970s 80s until the mid 1990s when football hooligans was at its peak supposedly the Blades BBC firm took over in mid 90s when it was almost over & that’s according to SUFC own Top hooligan Steve Cowards he says it in is own book & on a podcast on Utube with a Australian guy & that’s straight from the horses mouth 🤷🏼♂️💙👍👊

@Mr___X

Agreed. Shows how we've lost it as a culture as well. The tough love treatment at Newcastle for injured players is obvious: it disincentivises players from ducking out and encourages them to develop some inner fortitude. Now, that's unacceptable, but choosing to go out fighting every weekend is somehow mentil elf and not just a terrible life choice.
Nobody (like me) but chats bull would be like bambi if I gave him a 50% hit
That bit were he says “Colley” and he’s scared of him returning again is 110% correct. Mike Tyson said exact same. Mike the fighter is gone but he’s still ascared of him coming back into his life because he makes the family man Mike look like a bitch. He said it on his podcast when he had Sugar Ray Leonard on. So mental health wise I’d say he’s correct especially like it’s a spilt personality. Like 2 different people.
Fascinating story but for me a very unpleasant individual. Very half hearted attempt to get at the away fans
Did he claim to be a hooligan in the early 2000s, I started getting into in 1990 and it was practically over then. By 2000 if you had a good off then it was your last one because you would be on camera and due a ban, might have thrown a punch and it got split up straight away but no such thing as hooliganism by then.
@Mr___X
22 күн бұрын
Yeah seemed that way by the 2000s but there was still room for young wannabes to cause a bit of mayhem and try to live up to the old boys. Pathetic to choose that over a pro career tbh.
