Exactly my thoughts "he can't run away from his responsibilities", what responsibilities is he running away from he's in a clearly sustained household with enough functional income to pay all the bills. He provided both his children with $10,000 towards college, gave his wife $7500 out of his winnings to pay off her car note what responsibilities is he shrugging off or running away from? I also find it funny how the commenter fails to mention the wife getting a $5000 inheritance and spending the entirety on cosmetic surgery but the husband wanting to go on a once in a lifetime vacation is selfish and the $7500 he gave his wife is "chump change." I get the feeling the commenter is a wife who believes if her husband won $50000 she should get half because she's his wife and he has a responsibility to do so

100% agreed. The moment I read that she spent 5THOUSAND dollars of heritance money on cosmetic bullcrap, plus he bought her a car, the family argument completely ended there. Why didn't she use that money for the kids then, hmm? Was her looks more important just because she is a "woman?". She is even going for the 10 days, too, and the kids both had their share of the agreed money and the daughter decided she wanted to be more fancy-- that's on her, she made her decision and knew she'd be in debt at the end of it. Everything about the family life itself seems to be extremely fair, so why can't they just be happy that he'll finally be able to do something he has always dreamed of? If the wife had gotten those 37k, would SHE have paid her daughter's debt? Or would she have sent 80% of that on cosmetic bullshit? Guess we can't know for sure but hypocrisy is something I hate. People need to unwind and have this getaways during their life... or they'll eventually just, dry up mentally, physically and emotionally down the line. Being happy for someone else is a dying ember nowadays.. like, fudge man. You can spent half a million on someone, and they'll berate you for spending one thousand without them, some people don't deserve what they have =/

They have more opportunity to go see the world then he does and he might not get this chance ever again. Jeez. The story with OP winning the money from tickets kinda has me sick. He already is putting 10K towards her education (the same amount he put towards his son). His son earned a scholarship, which is why the money went farther. She decided to go somewhere for prestige over price, without having a scholarship to help. The debt she has after the 10K help is her choice, honestly, not OPs problem. And the fact that his wife is claiming he’s using all the money for himself, whe she got a pretty decent percentage of it for her car, and blew 5K on cosmetic surgery, while he’s still setting some aside, and is planning the first vacation for himself that doesn’t focus on his kids is, really selfish. Not divorce/broken family worthy, but he definitely needs to keep his finances separate for their personal desires if they are going to act like this when he wants to do something for himself after helping them both out already.

Then he said that he put 5K toward his wife's car and put some money in for his kids college tuition. Then I'm like "Nevermind. His wife and daughter are being spoiled entitled jerks here." That being said, I agree with your comment 110%. That man won that money fair and square. And his wife and daughter are trying to guilt him into giving them more. And...yeah. The wife saying her husband is being selfish is RICH, considering she spent a lofty inheritance for the sake of her own vanity. Talk about blatant hypocrisy.

I am JUST old enough to have dealt with a party line when I was a kid. And yes, we had a neighbor lady who would eavesdrop on everyone's phone calls. Until my aunt got fed up and arranged to have her boyfriend call and she started talking about what she was wearing and what they were going to do when they saw each other again. The old neighbor lady screamed to get Grandma on the phone. When she did Grandma listened for a couple seconds, then asked "why are you listening to her conversation anyway?" The woman hung up, came to the house and started yelling on how we were all going to burn in Hell. LOL Fun times, I was like seven or eight at the time.

The last story, in-between the time of a single line running in rural areas, and private lines, there was the party line option. It was cheaper than a private line, and you shared it with several neighbors. But when someone dialed your phone number, only your house rang. But if two people were talking when you picked up the phone, you couldn't dial out until they hung up. Everyone in my family had a private line, because one of my aunts worked at the phone company. However if enough birds were sitting on the same phone line and it touched a party line, you could listen in on other people talking. I was four years old staying at my aunt's house so my grandmother could take care of me. I was board and was playing with the phone, no toys at my aunt's house. I picked up the phone and heard two women talking. Grandmother caught me, asked what I was doing, and said listening to the party line. We don't have a party line. I handed her the phone, she listened for a few seconds, recognized the neighbors and hung up. I was then explained that listening in on other people's conversations was rude, and never to do that again. But why were they on our phone then? She told my aunt when she got home from work. Back then you could usually only get the gossiping women off the phone to get a call out if you told them it was an emergency. They'd hang up, then pick up the phone to see who you called. Lot's of people with party lines listened in on other people's calls. Don't gossip anything you wouldn't say to their face, because they might be listening. 🤭 That's what growing up in the 1960's was like. I don't remember when they did away with party lines. I remember when we moved to Florida in 1974, there wasn't an option for a party line. It was a listed number, or an unlisted number. I remember when Ma Bell broke up too. They had a monopoly, and the government said they couldn't do that anymore, the market needed to be opened up for competition. But Ma Bell paid for all of the phone lines that were out there. Telephones have come a long way in my lifetime. My Great-grandmother had an old hand crank phone still on the wall when I was a child; the original phones. ☎️📟📱. 👵☮️🖖

My Dad's apartment had an unfortunate number. As I figure it, the ferry corporation's information and reservation number was XXX-7000 or something. BUT, because multiple calls at one time for the huge ferry system were the norm, they also owned 7001, 7002, 7003, etc., and enquiry calls to 7000 would automatically get kicked up to the next open line. Unfortunately, Dad had 7010, which the ferries did *not* own, but on extremely busy days, he'd get calls from people wanting to know when the next sailing out of Horseshoe Bay was and such. Dad got really frustrated during the summer season when his phone would ring off the hook and no one thought it odd that the ferries' official line would answer with "Hello?" One day he'd had enough and told the next caller: "Didn't you hear? The ferry workers went on strike this morning!" The caller reacted with anguish and hung up. I was appalled when Dad related this to me in amusement. What if the poor guy went and told his kids their holiday on the Island was off? Or cancelled reservations somewhere? Dad shrugged and figured the guy would learn the truth soon enough, but I thought it was pretty callous!

As far as the issue about wrong phone numbers, I have two different instances that come to mind. I got my first cellphone in 2001, and the very first call I got was a wrong number. Curiously, about a year later, the same person called my phone by mistake again. Another instance was in 2002 when a call came in on our home phone, and I answered, and of course told the person they had the wrong number. They call back barely a minute later, and this time they told me what phone number they were trying to call, ending in 3261, and I told them they had called a number ending in 3251.

Ok, whenever I get a bagger for money. I tell them I'm a collegue student, than cound down what I pay /per month and tell them what I can afford for them. They usually leave at the first two sentences. Also my way is to point out mistakes in their asking. I had these two case. 1. A man wanted to travel and itt happened to be the same location where I travel sometimes (friend's place). So I pointed out how much I pay as a student through the travel app and it's just 45% of the total. 2. A woman wanting to go 1st of november on Sunday to a bakery at 19:00. I pointed out in this country everything closes at latest 15:00 on Sunday's and also it's a holiday. I no I could turn them down with a simple no, but if they come to me with a made up story, at least they could make a good one.

Years ago, I went to the grocery store on my way to go hang out with people. It was summer and I was wearing black overall shorts, fishnet stockings, a thin strapped tank top, and my black combat boots. (It looked cuter than it sounds 😂). Anyway, I had an old woman come up to me and ask me where something was. I turned and looked at her and looked down at myself, then back to her and said "I don't work here". Another time, similar outfit, I was in the grocery store and an older couple and I were in the same aisle. I had to bend down to grab something and I heard the man audibly gasp and I laughed in my head, but his wife yells at him then tells me with an attitude "you really shouldn't dress like that, you're being ignorant to other women when their husband's have to look at you." I told her, "they don't have to look at me, they could be looking at you. I think it says more about you than me that you're mad at what I'm wearing".

Last story .. my parents call that way back in the mid 700's "Party lines" my big bro usually sits on a desk w/ a transistor radio and plays to call my aunts and when he encounters voices along the convo he turns on the radio to annoy the callers .. then came the 90's some call this as " crossline" most teens are bored they use lines like this like a chatroom someone will dial a certain number as it rings you will hear people giving their own landline numbers so they can have a personal talk and others you can stay on the line and talk trash on the crossliners

In terms of a vacation, me and my wife have to re-do our honeymoon (was ruined by COVID). On the CHEAP side of things I have calculated we will need AUD$30,000 just to go to Orlando (flights from Australia) for 3 weeks, so I do not think $25,000 (I'm assuming USD$) is that outlandish. I also think he has spent enough on his family for him to want to spend the money on himself, as he won that money fairly and nobody should have any input on what to do with it and they are just being entitled.
