I've heard more about the story. His sister was starting to act more like her mother whenever her mother was around but didn't act that way when she and her boyfriend was alone. Or so the boyfriend said. The mom tried to split his sister and her boyfriend up by saying his sister cheated on him. So Op, his sister, and the boyfriend met at a restaurant and talked it over. (Or it was just the boyfriend and OP then all three. I forget. Some details may not be correct. But try to keep the main fact's correct.) Anyways, OP gotten them one of those family test things to see who was the father (the child wasn't born yet so they got the one that could be tested well the child was in the womb I guess) and the boyfriend was the father. OP promised them that if the child was the boyfriends, he would give them temporary living, the boyfriend would get a job, and his sister must get therapy. They got the test results sent to both his (OP) house & the mother's house. OP knew the mother was going to try to mess things up. So that's how they found out who the father was. Apparently, the boyfriend was a different race and the mother was apparently racist. Long story short, the mother disowned them both at the end. That's as far as I know it. If this story continued from this point, I'm completely unsure.

@@joshuadewaal Not a lawyer, but I wanna say that "substantial" in legal terms doesn't mean it has to be a _high_ amount, it just has to have measurable value. In the US, you could probably leave a person or entity one cent in a will and it would be considered substantial, since a one-cent coin still has redeemable value here (unlike in Canada, where the minimum interval is five cents). The rest of your argument, however, is perfectly reasonable. Leaving a thousand dollars but stating that contesting the will would leave them nothing would make an ugly court battle less likely.

This story hit hard, thanks for sharing and affirming what I have learned through difficult experiences - toxic relatives need very firm boundaries. I have a very toxic sister who is still waging a campaign to move into the house my father left me and my mom. I don't know she believed that she could show such pure hatred for her relatives and still feel we owe her something. Narcissistic lunacy can be so draining, you have to keep your distance from them even if they're family.

I can remember sitting with my ex, her mom, sister and 18 year old niece. They're all terribly self centered, and were talking about the mother's BF making good money but not spreading it around enough. These were adults, three of which had ZERO justification for receiving anything from him, and yet you'd think he was downright evil. I was horrified, and probably looked as much. The mom looked at me and said "Don't worry, we'd never talk about you like this" with a mischievous smile. I've never felt the presence of evil so strong in my life. They were a coven, manipulating and using men for their pleasure to be discarded once their use wore out. Thank God I got the hell away from them. My stomach and heart thanked me the moment I left...

I totally get the crazy Mother thing. My mom was off the rails for most of my life. Difference was that my mom loved Men, and she went from one to the next while my older sister and I were growing up. She treated us both this way, like yours, but it was over her men. Married 6 times and countless guys on the side for most of those. Mom was found dead, along with her husband, in 2016. They were both raging drunks by then and my sister and I had cut off any communication with her long before. After trying for 2 years to get her help and get her away from step-dad, who had money and bought all the wine she could want for, we gave up. Then they were found dead in their home. Mom had borderline personality disorder and was a narcissist on top of that. She was nuts and used to make us brush our teeth with Comet. My heart hurts for you because I understand a horrible mama more than most. Keep your chin up. You can do this...... and know this, some women are not meant to be mothers, although they are. Some mother's shouldn't raise children, yet they do. We consider ourselves lucky that we lived through our raising and it actually made us both Good Mothers. The trick is to always do the opposite of what Mama would have done and show love everyday. It made up both smart and strong and loving. You got this.

The mother had already received the marital house in the divorce plus alimony and child support and the majority of what was in the house. The fact that their father gave her ANYTHING is amazing in and of itself. I understand why their father gave so little to the daughter… she didn’t have much of a relationship with her father and she only cared about him for his money. OP, his son, moved in with him as soon as he possibly could. He worked with him and spent as much time with him as he could. He truly loved his father. He didn’t care about what he had. He cared about the man, the Dad, the mentor. They all got what they deserved.

I think there were actually 2 parts to this story before this part. The mother was forever letting the daughter steal from Op, lie about him, getting him grounded, forcing him to do everything, she'd slap him etc, he always let his dad know what was going on, and when he got home, he would sort things out. The dad got a lock for Ops bedroom door to stop the stealing. One time the mother chased him up the stairs, Op got into his room quickly and shut and locked the door, the mother slammed herself into the door and landed on the floor. The mother actually tried to send Op to military school, but the dad vetoed that. After the dad found out that his wife had forged his signature on the paperwork for the military school, he told her that if things kept up he'd divorce her. I think the mother even drank a bit and one night had an accident and didn't make it to the toilet and I think she slipped on her own crap, and Op got blamed for it, but not positive on this part. He then found out that she had been having an affair, so they did divorce, and as told in this part, Op ended up living with his dad.

  • @alientingz7733

My thing is, the sister got the CAR and $10,000 in cash. To some, that might not be enough but if they were to STACK on that in a savings account, they could've had enough money for their own home and money to survive. As for the mother, I can see why she thought she had that power over OP. It's always "I'm your mother and you owe me" but in reality, no one owes you anything. Especially if you treated that person like crap. From OP's outburst about his sister, I doubt no one stepped up for him other than his dad if he was around. His mother would've sided with the daughter and that's why she's the way she is now. I'm happy OP and his girlfriend stood their ground and didn't take the mother and sister's crap. The dad of OP would be proud.

I can completely understand why his father divorced this narcistic cheating goldigger. I would never let any of my ex's treat my boys that way. after disolving two marriages and they got custody and child support. My first wife who got remarried was cool and even payed half his college tuition. At 13 he came to live with me I was asked if I wanted support and I said no because I didn't want any ill fellings when she came to pick him up for visiting rights. I know we were to young to get married and have a baby as we were not as responsible as but we could have been but did do 10 years together and learned as we aged. Our son together was the first male who graduate with an advanced degree and was very personable and had a great sence of humour. My other son who came to live with me after he became 18 and the high dollar support stoppped that I paid directly to her during our separation. .She was a good mother from the country who had a great family that i loved but she was kinda lazy and had intimate issues that I thought she could work through. Then she got envolved in a religion that changed our relationship completely even though I like most of the people and even played sports with them and coached my sons baseball team. Then she got envolved with a arrogent couple I did not like who manipulated her vocal talents to make a CD as she was singing at numerous churches and a prison minestry. We had grown apart and neither were happy almost misserable so I said we need to get a dissolution after a year seperation and it cost me alot more as I was making more money and saved alot. She got a better job but I always paid the bills before and eventually she ran out of the settlement money and went back to the country. She would call our son who was working to send her money as she was caring for her sisters kids. He loves his mom and he is funny, smart and compassionate and I'm sad that things didn't work out.

I was raised a scapegoat myself by a narc. My younger brother was the golden child. I escaped the clutches of my witch mother and spent my life healing from the abusive neglect I suffered as a child. My brother, meanwhile, has become a full blown narc himself. What passed for my mother's love was demonstrably more damaging than her indifference; much like this story.

My older brother was the golden child. At an early age, my father told me not to expect a financial inheritance. As a child, I believed everything my father told me. I grew up neglected and adjusted my life accordingly and not expecting a financial inheritance. I moved out and far away. I survived and thrived without my father in my life. Older brother and father's golden boy dropped out of college and became a derelict.
