Michael Landon had his issues. He was brought up by a Mother who was psychotic, and a Father who didn't give a damn, so yes, he could be a jerk at times. But he did bring us great Television.

@Conway Twitter So you think that it was ok that the world should be as you say SIMPLY, that he is a total tightwads, take minimum wage or MOVE ON, as you say. It was perfectly ok that Karen finally got a raise & was sexually harrassed, that he DESERVEDLY MADE IT WORK, as you say, by the show going downhill. Its not common practice to be tightwads. Hated Andy Griffith done the same thing, & he made it work by Don Knotts quitting. The people on the show was afraid to ask for a raise, because he treated Karen like garbage. If it is common for people to be treated this badly, it is strange that it is rarely heard of. One reason Pernell Roberts quit was he couldnt stand Landon. Highway to Heaven, Landon walked around like he was totally bored, it showed through his acting

@@46foryoungerYou really have mental issues don't you? How dare you equate someone being raped with her ridiculous stories. First off,the things she is accusing Michael Landon of are utterly silly and laughable. He told a dirty joke? Boo hoo!,"He didn't pay me as much as himself, the star of the show". Again,Boo hoo! She wasn't the star of the show and could have quit if she didn't like it. She was hired for a role and paid for her part and made good money. She was also an alcoholic who show up on the set moody, would cuss in front of the kids. Charlotte Stewart who played Miss Beadle was nearly homeless four years after she quit little house and a drug addict. Maybe we can blame Michael Landon for that too. You're statement comparing her waiting 50 years to dish a bunch of petty trash about someone who gave her a job that she was well paid for is the same as a woman who was raped waiting 50 years to come forward is highly insulting to all the women out there who have been through sometning like that. I enjoyed her book, it was extremely well written and poignant in its telling of her struggles with alcohoism, and being the child of an alcoholic. She was honest and fair in her telling of her dealings with Michael Landon who despite his indisputable talent, was not particularly easy to work for or with...or even be related to if his children's autobiographies are even partially true. 👍🏽💯😊

To the person who made the original comment. How do you know its true? Were you there? Do you know either Michael Landon or Karen Grassle personally or are you just taking someone's story at face value because of her sex? Karen Grassle was an alcoholic during the filming of the show. She and others admit that. She would come to work drunk and was moody and would swear in front of the children. She wasn't a "Saint" either. Michael Landon wasnt Charles Ingalls,he was a real human being and imperfect as are the rest of us. That being said he wasn't a villian. So what if he told an off color joke in the company of adults? As to him paying her less than himself, she was NOT the star of the show. I don't respect her for coming up with this dirt 50 some years later to sell books. Truth is that without Michael Landon casting her in his show nobody today would even know who she is.

Some people are saying that she should have brought it up to him at the time instead of waiting until years later. But she obviously didn't feel that she could. The fact that he was totally comfortable with this sort of behavior just underlines how accepted it was back then, with men - especially those with the ability to wield power over others' careers - being able to get away with workplace harassment that (I hope) wouldn't be tolerated today. Now that she can safely talk about it, she shouldn't have to remain silent just to uphold the stupid "don't speak ill of the dead" rule, or in gratitude that he hired her for the role, or to perpetuate his image as a saint. That sends a wrong message.

As much as I love Michael Landon, his work and his family values; we can't forget that he was a man in power during a time that the T.V and Hollywood industry silenced women. This was the Suzanne Somer's era, where women were blacked balled for even daring to be paid equal to their male counterparts, while having to also sit around and listen to derogatory remarks, sexist talk. Now, I'm not saying that Michael Landon was like Harvey Weinstein, not at all. But one can't help and thing that the culture Landon participated in, encouraged the newer generation of "Hollywood Men in Power," take their abuse a step further, which was assault. This culture led to the creation men like Weinstein, Cosby, Spacey and most recent Masterson. For a man who promoted advocacy through his craft, Landon didn't necessarily promote it in life, on the set. Grassle couldn't even ask for an increase in pay without being belittled, reduced to a category that all of Hollywood took for granted. It made women compete with each other, as their pay was later established based on the number of lines they had in an episode. That level of competitiveness is what Penny Marshall and Cindy Williams experienced, as they would often read scripts, count lines and argue for more lines. Had they banded together during contract renewals, Cindy Williams may have still remained, but of course her own husband, Bill Hudson (another man in power), put a wedge in his wife's career. It's hoped that the "Me Too" movement made some strides, and that more men like Matthew Perry, Mat LeBlanc and David Schwimmer, who together walked alongside their female counterparts during contract renewal to demand equal pay per episode across the board. That was beyond beautiful.

All the workers on the tv show worked for practically little pay, while Michael Landon hogged most of the big money. The workers were afraid to ask for a raise on pay. The meddlesome lady on the show was so mad that she refused to come back at end. Karen Grassley finally got a raise after 2 whole years & Landon always insulted her, & cut her parts way down during the whole show, jusr because she finally got a raise. Michael told her in a scene in bed that she stunk. Michael stayed drunk & smoked constantly.

I think it’s sad the way she and Angrim have to jump on the pc bus and try and tar and feather Michael Landon’s memory when he’s not here to defend himself, all in the name of selling books. She was an alcoholic and moody had her share of perosnal problems too. Some of the criticisms are utterly stupid. Michael Landon WAS from the “MadMen” era. He was acting in the 50’s and 60’s! So what *if* he did tell dirty jokes at times? I’m sure Grassle did too. She was also paid well for her part ,she wasn’t the star of the show and if she had an issue with it she could have left before taking the part. The reality is that if it wasn’t for Michael Landon nobody would even know who she is today. His show made her a place in tv history. Honestly, the things she is complaining about are laughable and just “dirt” to sell books. There are REAL problems in the world. When you’re an adult you’re supposed to grow up and behave like one and develop a thick skin. In the real world people are going to tell jokes that you might not like and say things (right or wrong) that may be unkind. She could have left if she didn’t like it. I know someone who lived next door to Michael Landon and was also in the industry and she had nothing but kind things to say about him. I’ve heard so many stories from people who worked on his shows about how generous and kind he was. Are all those folks lying? It’s funny how all these books and stories come out when these peoples careers hit the skids or are over. I think Karen Grassle was great In her role, but she also wasn’t like the character she portrayed on “little house” either. Bottom line is that Michael Landon was a human being. Anyone expecting him to be perfect or be exactly like a fictional character he played should remember that and should look in the mirror first. Michael Landon made some great shows that touched a lot of folks lives. “Highway to Heaven” was great. It’s sad that he and Victor French aren’t still here with us.

Considering that there're are Vagina Monologs stand ups where women make V jokes for 2 hours, Karen could have laughed, and not acted like a victim 50 years later. 🤔

But Lynn landon was being taken care of by him. Landon was not perfect by any stretch but the guy atleast put his best foot forward to Giving people good entertainment for famlies.. his personal life is truly none of our business or concern. You sound like you're condoning, defending, Idolizing him, by saying, ""forget about it"" ""He can do no wrong in my eyes"" And you didn't even know him enough to vouch for him. It's he said she said.... They both fit the stellar roles to the public eye. So neither can be validated for what true colors come out privately behind closed doors.

Howard Stern said it best in his book, "Private Parts": "Did you see the homages paid to him when he died? All the news programs showed him walking down the road as an angel from his TV show "Highway to Heaven." When was this guy an angel? I'm sure at least two of his ex-wives thought he was going to hell. And he has this great image as a family man. Family man? This guy had nine children from three different wives. He was a guy in his fifties having children with his third wife. He wrote family shows, meanwhile his family was in total disarray. Three different wives. He was a families man. He made a bunch of sappy shows about the family he would have liked to have. He couldn't be an angel, so he acted as one."
