I Graded my First Dan from Suzuki back in 98. He shredded me. This man was the fastest most powerful guy I have ever met.

I studied with him for just 3 months until my knees gave out in 1971. I still practise what I learned then. I tried to get public recognition for him from the British Government because he taught so many people who taught people throughout the British police and Karate teams, but to no avail. I heard that he was tough in Dan gradings. He was a delightful man, though. I was having difficulty kicking when my knees were hurting. He said, “Show me”. I did a couple of Mae-geris. He said, “Not so bad, not so bad. Try this.” And he stood up and rattled off about ten mae-geri migis in little over one second. I think I gasped and he smiled. Occasionally, somebody would come into the dojo to challenge him to a fight. Big mistake! He always dealt with them in nano-seconds. They were great times; he called over Fuji, Meiji Suzuki, Maeda and others from Japan to teach us. Hamish Adam won the British or European championship (?) in the Albert Hall. I thought Suzuki was very inspiring. I treasure his memory.

Knew him in 1989. One week in aix les bains.

In the 1960's l recall a 1st Dan having trained under Sensei Suzuki, describing the genuine " power" which he could unleash. Deceptive because you don't get superfluous or flamboyant form, just disciplined and pure technique honed after decades of classical training. Martial arts film buffs might not understand that.

I like a lot this style of karaté which is a "blending" of self defense jujitsu, karaté and aikibudo.. (if I'm not mistaken) Congrats to Tatsuo and greetings from France!
