The main reason vibrato is so prominent in Stan walkers songs/singing is bcs it’s heavily used in every traditional Māori song which is his culture. It is a key technique used in waiata (songs) that date back hundreds of years ago. Stan walker is one of the most talented people to come out of New Zealand.

U must listen to the song “ I Am”, he co wrote it and it’s for the new movie Origin. Also watch it with the video which Stan and his cousin made along with the song for the movie. It’s fantastic…, shows culture and the scenes from New Zealand.

A lot of people may not agree with Kanye West or like how he acts, but he created this song so without it we would not have the foundation for this brilliant performance from Stan Walker & The Levites. I'm not a fan of the original, but LOVE this version thanks to Stan's soul - he pours his whole self into this performance and it's brilliant to watch & listen to.

Stan Walker is one of our National treasures here in Aotearoa (New Zealand). He has gone through so much in his life but came out the other side with so much determination and strength. His new waiata (song) 'I am' for the movie 'Origin' is one of his best so far (in my opinion). He envokes his whakapapa (ancestry) into the lyrics. And the filming for this video is in and around some of the most beautiful places here.

You are right . Stan Walker is from Ratana, church of Maori Christian’s. His mum from Tamapohore in Tauranga. He lived in Australia where he won Australia Idol, had stomach cancer and moved home to New Zealand. He stands for our people and our culture. We are fighting the same fight you are in your country and he’s telling our story through his songs and all the covers.

Thank you for reacting to Stan. A great interpretation of this classic from a largely Polynesian group. Try listening to some more of Stan. He sure has SOUL.

He won the Australian Idol when he was 18yrs old but has gone on hone his craft, he is a power house, soulful, spiritual, captivating and his roots have helped shape him. While he does covers, he is also a great song writer, producer and director of his recent year. Stan is a survivor of stomach cancer and thought he might never be-able to sing again, but through all his physical challenges he is back singing even better than before even having his stomach removed and I guess it’s no wonder he connects to all his songs. His backing group are The Levites and have been with Stan for many years...they are awesome. Stan has just released 'I Am' a song he was asked to write for the movie "Origin' the producer & writer of the movie saw this video of his Kanya West cover and tracked him down in New Zealand...he was asked to write a song for their movie but he only had 2 weeks....the result will blow your mind.
