His documentary on his cancer journey, removal of his stomach etc, is here on KZread. Well worth a watch. Also Amazing Grace, cover of Don't Dream It's Over by Crowded House and his cover of Ultralight Beam by Kanye are insane. He's a very proud man of Maori descent from here in Aotearoa New Zealand. He is absolutely amazing and so humble too.

I'm from Rotorua New Zealand, (Geyser City)...Tamoko are done as was in the old days, its still a ritual, and i must admit, Stan's Tamoko is truly beautiful, his tone has changed a lot since his Idol days in Australia, with the journey he has undertaken his tone has depths, soul, and carries that Mana feeling in his lyrics... bringing all the elements together. Papatūānuku (Earth) Rangi (Sky) Moana (Sea) Tane Mahutu (forest).. hope everyone likes this song hes definitely has come a long way.

His tattoos are all real. He’s a beautiful person as well. He also went through medical issues and no longer has a stomach. So this affects your singing. And he has overcome all this. ❤❤❤

Stan’s music is awesome, he has stayed true to who he is. You should watch the doco on his when he went through cancer struggle…he now sings without a stomach. New Zealanders have huge respect for what he Stan’s for, a nice person.

Stan is amazing artist. Check his older "New Takeover". Definitely his cover of "Ultralight Beam". Also "New Light" is also moving. His most recent "Māori Ki Te Ao" has cool island feel. He battled stomach cancer and had his stomach removed! He wasn't even sure he'd be able to sing the same afterwards but he has remained amazing ❤👍

New Zealand’s North Island is very volcanic. Where you saw Sam standing on rock, was an area of volcanic rock with active geothermal activity. Our bush (forest) is very lush, thick and very green.

Stan filmed this video in less than 3 weeks, with zero budget. Just him, a friend a couple of cuzns and a camcorder. This was filmed literally in his backyard where his tribe is from. Apart from the maunga (mountain), which is where his wife is from. The scenes are real places in, NZ.

No one is trying to get rid of Te Reo it is an official language you would need a new law to do that and there are way too many people of Maori decent in Parliament for that to happen you are just repeating what the over privileged intellectual elites are telling you to rack the young ill educated to a cause that in fact does not exist

@@tyronmcalister3403 no one can get rid of it as you say it is an official language of this country and the last time I looked there was no legislation before our parliament to reverse it and that is what it would take. I am a Pakeha who has many people in my family who identify as Maori my elder sister speaks Te Reo. Most of my family are either fluent or have a good understanding. The big problem is that people are being told these lies and it is becoming devising and that will cause a problem. It suits those more privileged Maori to ferment this rubbish. You have more Maori than ever before in our Parliament if that is not being included in the decision making processes I do not know what else can be expected.

Kia ora guys, loving your coverage, Stan is a taonga a treasure of Aotearoa New Zealand. These are all places I’ve been to over my lifetime and the geysers and pale stone are likely in Rotorua and or Taupo in the volcanic areas. In the movie scenes that sculpture where she touches the stones I’m pretty sure is in Germany and is a monument to holocaust survivors.

Stan won the 7th season of Australias got talent, he was born in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, but moved back to his ancestral lands of New Zealand. He had stomach cancer and has come out stronger. He has an amazing voice. I have followed his career since Australian Idol.

Stan is a really beautiful human being who’s overcome a lot including a recent bout of cancer. He lost his stomach due to that. He’s got an incredible voice & is a true artist in how he expresses the lyrics. He’s a proud Māori & yes, those tattoos reflect his culture & are real. Someone kindly put a translation of the Māori part of the song. Like Native American peoples, Māoris consider humans to be stewards of the earth/the Earth is our mother & we pass our origins down to subsequent generations. We’re not doing a great job of protecting the legacy of our beautiful environment. We need to do much better by our children.

He actually watched the movie and this song is the result of the movie, he is a full Maori born in Australia but now living in New Zealand with his family and yes the tattoos are real it represents his Whanau his iwi (Family and tribe) he is acknowledging his ancestors. ​@@MyCatalog23Origin is a movie that follows the life of Isabel Wilkerson around the time she wrote the book Caste: The origin of our discontent. She delves into what makes us detach emotionally from other groups of people who are different whether it be race, colour, religion, social or economic background and allow it to develop into persecution or hatred. I believe this is one of the most important movies of our time. I am a massive Stan Walker fan and it is through this sing I discovered the movie. In Stan's video he shows the forests and waterfalls which are plentiful in New Zealand as well as the stunning beaches and geothermal areas (the dark areas). The video was made mostly in the Bay of Plenty and central North Island and it really is that beautiful!

Lots of great info in the comments. Just to add, parts of NZ are covered in rain forest. No jungle in NZ; it is a bit far south for that (too cold!). The Eastern and Central parts of both islands are now more open country than when the early Polynesian settlers (Maori) cut and burnt all the trees which originally grew there. They did so to hunt one of the largest/heaviest birds ever to have lived, the (flightless) Moa bird, which became extinct within 100-150 years of Maori arrival (around 1300 {Medieval times in Europe}). Something like 6 or 7 million hectares had been cleared of bush and forests prior to Europeans arriving in NZ. (early 1800's). The Haast's Eagle (the world's largest ever eagle) also went extinct, since Moa were its main source of food. The rats they brought with them may have also contributed to that loss. Both clearing and extinctions continued after Europeans arrived and are still going on to this day.
