Phil Ehart hasn't lost a tiny bit of his skills on drums even at 70... still hitting hard when he has to, and being smooth when the song requires. Quite an underrated drummer, sadly.

I dig how Ronnie Platt keeps the melody structure of Steve Walsh, yet does inflect some of his own vocal style into the song... RP keeps the music true and yet "new"... he honors Steve and the Fans of Kansas with his performances in studio and live.

He does it in person, too. I bumped into him after a show and someone was saying how they thought he was the best vocalist the band ever had, and he promptly halted them, nicely thanked them, but explained that if it were not for Steve and then later John, he would have never had the opportunity to front this band, and that he wasn't a fan of comparisons because he looks up to both Steve and John a lot. Really humble guy. He absolutely IS the right guy for the front man job.

I can’t imagine a universe where one inhabitant would think Ronnie Platt is a better singer than Steve Walsh in his prime. Or Elefante, for that matter. I would invite that person to watch any of the Don Kirshner’s Rock Concert clips from the 70s and then tell me Platt is better than Walsh. That person was either stone deaf or kissing some seriously major ass. Now, if someone said Steve Perry was better or Rik Emmett maybe, at least that could constitute a debate, but I still think Steve Walsh is the victor. Platt is okay, but to me, he sings without emotion because he has to concentrate every iota of his being on hitting all those crazy notes and soaring runs that Walsh conjured up forty years ago (which he can’t quite pull off). There isn’t a shred of blues or soul in Platt’s voice and Steve has always had that naturally and in spades. I understand that Platt is a lot older than Steve was in the 70s and it’s not easy singing in a loud rock band in your 50’s or 60’s. He has a difficult job, to say the least and he’s certainly not making a fool of himself. That one person said Platt was the best singer Kansas ever had, which is utterly ridiculous on its face, however. I realize the “Dust and Bolt” crowd couldn’t give two shits, but us lifelong Wheatheads know who reigns supreme in the singing world. This is a classic case of “you can’t beat the original”. We miss you, Steve!!

I hate this singer. It’s not that he’s a bad singer, he simply isn’t right for this band. He makes all the vocals sound cheesy. He’d be great in Air Supply though.😆 In fairness, this band is technically good, but shouldn’t be calling themselves Kansas anyway. At this point they are more like a Kansas tribute band.

Got kicked out because drugs and alcohol were not majors at the time. Supertramp in 1979 (I believe) was best concert ever by FAR!! Saw Bruce many times but got too political. Hard to sing about rough times as a billionaire with ten facelifts!!! First dog was named Supertramp!! Now I'm in my 60's but still kickin!

I’m woven in a fantasy I can’t believe the things I see The path that I have chosen now Has led me to a wall And with each passing day I feel a little more like something dear was lost It rises now before me A dark and silent barrier between All I am And all that I would ever want to be It’s just a travesty Towering Marking off the boundaries my spirit Would erase To pass beyond is what I seek I fear that I may be too weak And those are few who’ve seen it through To glimpse the other side The promised land is waiting Like a maiden that is soon to be a bride The moment is a masterpiece The weight of indecision’s in the air Standing there The symbol and the sum of all that’s me It’s just a travesty Towering Blocking out the light and blinding me I want to see Gold and diamonds cast a spell It’s not for me, I know it well The riches that I seek are waiting On the other side There’s more than I can measure In the treasures of the love that I can find And though it’s always been with me I must tear down the wall and let it be All I am And all that I was ever meant to be In harmony Shining true And smiling back at all who wait to cross There is no loss Ohhh

For some reason, I don't think Ronnie sounds as good on the new albums and actually like River Song the best. I'm not sure whether it is the production, but his voice has more treble sound. The band is still great musically and I agree with Brian May that they are the best band I've ever seen live because there music is so hard to play. Phil keeps it all together.

It's nice that Kansas is still a band but I will never choose this rendition over the original. No comparison!

@@mattcurran6602 Himself 😂 Why would you compare 20 year old Walsh to 60 year old Platt? Besides that, I’d say musically they’ve never sounded better.
