I think I'll definitely have to check this out. It'll be a nice change of pace from all the zombies I've been observing lately. Glad to see another review while on that same note, Phantom. Keep up the solid work.

I got the game a while ago and managed to install it properly, but I still have to find the time to play it.

Awesome review dude. Havent played kanon yet but i've played other KEY titles such as Clannad and ONE and they're really great. how long did it take to finish the game Zwei? Well since u just tackled on a KEY game, hows about the other juggernaut Type-Moon. Fate Stay Night is phenomenal, and its about 5 years old now.

I just finished the 2006 version anime and looked for some reviews. It's a good review, as you don't go into spoilers but give a quick shot of what Kanon is about. Just thinking about Makoto makes me sad as I really loved her.

anime and visual novel are so great!! key rules!

Kanon is amazing. But in most VNs, I dont mind the h-scenes being there, but in kanon they really DONT add anything

Jesus Christ I only just got this damn relic up and running, it took 6 damn hours and it’s still not perfect. The last 20 years have not been kind to this game and modern hardware has evolved so far that trying to make a museumpiece like this run is a nightmare. The actual installation wasn’t too hard, I just needed a virtual machine and a copy of XP I extracted from a 16 year old laptop of mine, but the lack of tutorials made this so much harder, every set of installation/patching/modification instructions I found were either incomplete, Japanese, or were filled with broken links that prevented me from finding all the files I needed.

The last time I played this visual novel was on Windows 7, and I didn't have any problems installing it then. But if you think Kanon is bad, try installing the original version of Sayonara wo Oshiete, that was >.>

@malakaki111 No, I mean, which one is the guy playing? I know that the story and art is the same. The one he is playing would be the one in the video, therefore I want to know which one he was playing.

Oy, I couldn't really give you a playtime estimate. I didn't keep track of that at all. While it's definitely not as long as say Fate/Stay Night, it's still a sizable title with plenty of substance. That said, I do plan to review Fate sometime in the future but I've got a couple of other video ideas I want to knock out first. Thanks for the feedback. =)

This game with the anime's english voicecast on the 3DS would be a day one purchase for me.

Personally, I love the VN.

I just got this game a while ago with the translation, I am really enjoying it so far. I'm skeptical on what dialog options to pick though, I don't know if I should follow what happened in the Anime, I don't want to end up screwing up the ending in some way.

No matter how much Clannad makes me choke up, Kanon is still favorite of Key's first three titles. I'm still waiting for someone to finish translating AIR, though.

guys i have a question. i finished watching the 2006 anime and i loved it! but i am in the process of getting the PC game version of kanon. but i need to know before i get it. is it the same as the anime show? or are there any extras? or differences? i dont want to end up getting the game just to be repeating everything that i already know happened in the show. so what do you think?

@Sn1f7er probably because it's AVG...lol I hate it, it tore my computer up trying to use it. but ya anti-virus's do that... Malware bytes keeps trying to tell me nexon's mabinogi is a virus when it isn't and norton tried telling me Star wars galaxies was lol. So ya, you run into that...

About the English voice patch you mentioned in the later part of the video... if one wants the Japanese voices but English text then is the standard game already like that? I'm a subbed anime guy.

The patched version doesn't change the voices.

Great review. the art did turn me off a bit at first and I wished I'd watched the anime before playing but both were still a masterpiece. I felt like the H-scenes were kinda unneeded and "creepy" in a way with this kind of art but hey, do what you want, lol.
