I still remember playing it back in the day and really enjoying it. At the time it was really nice to look at and had charm. Would love a remake of it. You're right about Rare being a shell of what they were. Xbox has all of Rare's library of IP to make many awesome games, but don't do anything.

Coming from someone who played Kameo: Elements of Power, I can say that this was an underrated gem and a good launch game to balance out Perfect Dark Zero and Call of Duty 2. I dream for a release of a Kameo II that sticks with the original game’s cartoon aesthetic while expanding its action-adventure gameplay.

Kameo blew me away as a kid when I got it on the 360's launch day. The graphics were straight-up gorgeous, and that Badlands area where you could just roll through thousands of enemies was a pretty big and fun flex of next-gen power at the time.

When I initially played it back in the day, I was fairly sure that the sheer mass of enemies on-screen at once in the Badlands was the true point of the exercise, at least for someone in the design team. Pause to marvel at the massive, moving crowd, then saddle up and mow right through them.

Same, TBH. I had fun with this game and though I found the setting kinda dull, the characters fairly flat, and the story not that engaging, I loved the visuals, had a ton of fun with the gameplay, and I found it overall quite memorable as the first Xbox game I ever played. I think had they put more detail and depth to the worldbuilding and cast, I would've been far more into wanting a sequel. Like, some detail on the different races of people in each region would've been nice. I was pretty fascinated by the plant people who had their faces on their bulbs and leaves for feet, since they slept upside down in dirt with their leaf feet sticking out of the ground. Like, that's the kind of worldbuilding I'd like to know more about when I see it in a work of fiction.

Let's talk about something ironic here: Out of all big devs from the 80s through the early 00s, Rare was INFAMOUS for being tight-lipped regarding business operations and the security of their projects. Occasionally, they'd do an in-depth tour/interview about a project either finished or in development, but only because either A) The situation required it, or B) That Big N demanded it. That really puts it into perspective how funny it is that we now know more about Rareware (a super-tight-lipped company) and its projects than most other successful developers from that same time period.

Can't say the Kameo 2 stuff was up my alley, but got to respect the sheer scope and effort that went into a lot of that concept art. In any case, in hindsight, if Microsoft had the mentality to view Kameo sequel as an investment to build upon the modest success of the first game way back when, they would maybe have a healthier and more diverse stable of established in-house franchises and IP today the way Sony does (let alone Nintendo).

It's so wonderful to see a big youtuber talk about this severely underrated gem many years later. Like this is seriously one of those games that people have never heard of, and I'm sure that like 99% of people watching this what happened series have never heard of it until this video. While I do have my issues with the game, some major (scrapped content and lost lore for example, seriously, there is a Kameo discord that managed to salvage so many lore and other things from this game's development that I and many fans believe would of made it better), mostly nitpicks, but overall I still very much enjoy it and I give it an 8/10. Oh, and two little obscure fun facts, the water trolls actually heal the plant elemental warriors when attacking, and the dragons (at least the red ones, not sure of the other type) heal the fire elemental warriors when attacking, I just recently learned this after many years of playing Kameo. Edit: Okay I tested it, and yes, the light blue dragons that appear in Snow Top Village and expert mode of the Snow Temple also heal fire elemental warriors. Also, I'm now more interested in a Kameo Remake before it gets sequels, as a remake has so much potential to improve from the original, and because almost no one has ever heard of Kameo, so going straight into a sequel to an obscure game decades later is probably a bad idea.

Oh, this is one of those games no big youtuber seemingly talked about before recently. I really like Kameo, for how relatively simple it is. Really, I think most of the reason why almost nobody played it back then is that bafflingly, it was released on the same day as Perfect Dark Zero. Hindsight is always 20/20, but back in 2005, which game were you more likely to buy? As weird as sounds I was actually really relieved when Kameo 2's pitch got turned down. I followed the development of the first game *obsessively* but I never liked the forced edginess of the K2 art direction, and honestly never liked the art style change the game got in 04 either. One of the best parts about this game was it's whimsical art and music (one of my favorite OSTs ever actually). I would love to see this IP get revived though. It could serve as a good Zelda-like alternative for the Xbox platform and with Game Pass in the mix a game with a more whimsical aesthetic could be gambled on more easily. Also RIP Meepo. Kameo is one of the few Xbox games I ever owned and played, since my older brothers hogged the console most of the time. It's served as a huge inspiration for a collection of characters and ideas I would love to make into a video game some day. But I recently played it again on Game Pass, and my opinions on the game have definitely changed. The game kinda feels like a 360 tech demo, since every Elemental Warrior utilizes different parts of the game engine in their moveset. Kameo herself feels incredibly barebones in terms of combat, as her only saving grace is being the fastest way to traverse the map until late game. The score attack system on level replays is somewhat unconventional, and was WAY too tough for my younger self to pull off. And the less I say about the disappointing final boss the better. Despite all my issues with it, the game still does quite a lot right, and holds a special place in my heart. I really hope to see more from this series one day - If not a sequel, then at least make Kameo an MKOne kameo, do it you cowards!

No fucking way. I literally just thought about Kameo for the first time in several years today. But nobody ever talks about it now. So I looked up Kameo in the search bar, to see if anyone had made any retrospectives on it. And lo and behold, you made a video about it just yesterday. Amazing coincidence.

I remember really loving this game when it came out. It came in and out of my life multiple times, and I always had a great time playing it! Really wish it got a sequel. Here's hoping Microsoft gives it to them someday. Also, I remember always comparing this game to Ben 10 but turns out Kameo technically predates Ben 10.

@@TeruteruBozusama no they didn't. Nintendo had no interest in rare and Microsoft did (though MS was obsessed with trying to "screw over" Sony back then). Microsoft needed/wanted someone who knew how to make console games(something they are still looking for), so after attempting and being rejected by many studios(including Nintendo themselves), rare was the biggest name left on the list(who was still riding high after all their work for the N64), Nintendo who had been shopping around their shares in the studio for a year found someone willing to take them.

The reason I recall this game so well was it was shortly after my parents got cable again after years without it. There was a channel for a while that had game walkthroughs (and other game related content); the precursors to let's plays, pretty much and they always showed Kameo. It has such a weirdly idealized place in my heart for that, because I never owned or played the game; I couldn't even recall the name, I just knew how it looked and felt and recognized the main character.

You have to remember that on N64, Goldeneye outsold Zelda. Four of the best selling games on N64 were developed by Rare, and the sales figures relative to the install base and overly expensive N64 cartridges was insane.

Honestly, if Kameo 2 won't be in the works, then surely that won't stop us from doing some fanfic stories about it, and there are Kameo: Elements of Power fanfic stories. Another example of a fanfic using the story of a canceled game is a Batman Arkham fanfiction I saw that's based on the canceled Batman Arkham game that was supposed to feature Damian Wayne. I can't remember the name, though. But I do remember seeing it.
