Compared to most modern series, it stands out in a good way. You can not make a season like this ever again. It is one of a kind experience to watch it.

It kind of is, which is a bit sad. I'm just glad that Revice seems to be trying to make their Deadmans quite threatening even if they can't be completely on the save level as the Grongi.

Kuuga. One of the most cheerful and optimistic heroes paired with possibly the most depressing scenario in Kamen Rider. This show has the citizens react realistically to living in a country full of alien serial killers (who attack on a near weekly basis). Everybody who isn't either a Cop or part of the supporting cast is basically scared all the time or depressed or both. The show went out of it's way to take it's premise seriously. Well, the show's theme song (the second-to-last classic KR theme, BTW) put it very well: *NO FEAR, NO PAIN*

Kuuga still holds up today, bad cgi and all. I still remember that little peek of ultimate after kuuga when berserk with rising titan, that level of foreshadowing is missed in todays seasons

Agreed.

Kugga shows collateral damage during explosions. Meanwhile eight years later RPM would parody and even weaponize their explosions. Come to think of it, both shows have an episode where the characters break the forth wall while showing off how the show is filmed. I'd love to say that's not a coincidence, but it probably is.

and Joe Odagiri made women want to watch Kamen Rider which resulted in funny Japanese childhood stories of them being confused at why their older sister joined them when watching Kuuga which has nothing to do with them following the story line.

Usually each episode has about 5 minutes of action. It's very slow- paced. KR nowdays has more action. Maybe if I was a kid I would get bored watching this season but I'm a full grown ass man watching a kids show and I loved it 🤣

Okay, the sequential transformations that occur when Kuuga lays the smackdown on a bad guy in the first episodes just sold me on this show.

@@TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork Ayup. One of the coolest visuals I've ever seen. In general, going off the footage used here, Kuuga has some fantastic effects by 2000 standards. Even the CGI seems bearable! Too bad this show hasn't made it to the UK's home video market yet.

KR Kuuga is definitely one of my Top Five Rider series. The series is so popular it has a sequel manga in Japan. Yusuke Godai is definitely the kind of progtanist that you love to root for. A guy that just wants to do the right thing. I also find it interesting how the original actor never reprised the role or returned to Toku to avoid being typecast. Plus he has a phemonon named after him called the

I'm honestly not sure how a direct sequel could work given his belt was destroyed in the final battle. I like the way they went about it with Agito being the continuation in the universe.

lol Yeah, I had watched the show with Silver Quill, so he wanted to be apart of the review because of the Rhino Grongi.

Definitely one of the best rider seasons ever! While not my favourite it’s a little bit too slow for my liking at times but I think my opinion on that could change since it’s been years since I first watched the show. It’s such a well done show and how it shows the consequences of being a hero is amazing. Also how it deconstructs Toku Hero shows is top tier. A lot of western super hero shows could definitely take a lot from kuuga. Also the final battle is so good I couldn’t help but cry when I watched it.

Kuuga is definitely a show I didn't fully appreciate when I watched it back in 2011, but did so this time around. I think part of it is thanks to how everything these days moves by so quickly that having a show that took its time to flesh things out was a nice change of pace.

Kamen riders run reminds me of doctor who stopped in the eighties had a movie in nineties and came back in the 2000

Finally, It's Kuuga!(My favorite KR show) I do think Gurongi is most brutal monsters in KR history, They are horrific monsters who kill innocent people like a game. It was especially horrifying to see high school boys dying with the fear of death.(The monster... was Go Jaraji Da, I think.)

I like him, but I think Inoue is better, though my favorite Toku writer is Sugimura. A shame he died too soon.

You failed to mention Eri Tanaka, while in a supporting role as Nozomi Sasayama on Kuuga, Tanaka is also known as Chisato Jougasaki aka Mega Yellow in MegaRanger. I noticed that face right off the bat.

That's because she wasn't really all that important outside of fawning over Ichijo until learning about his dad.

Shout Factory just announced that they're releasing Kuuga and Fiveman on blu-ray and DVD respectively. I'm eager to see Fiveman as it's the only 90s Sentai I haven't seen yet so I'll finally be able to complete that decade of Sentai and properly judge it, but admittedly I did not like Kuuga when I first saw it. I don't know, I loved the first 2 episodes which were truly awesome but after that it seemed like it was the same thing over and over again. One big factor was not having subtitles for the Grongi, but the blu-ray will have the option of translating their conversations so I really want to see that. I watched some scenes from the first episode online with those subtitles and they made it even better in my opinion, so I'm sure that no matter what I'll enjoy it more on blu-ray.

I already preordered them. As for Kuuga, you have to look at it as a cop drama with a Kamen Rider in it rather than a standard KR series. Both it and Agito was full on experimentations for the return of the franchise.

They show if they did not focus on collectible items they can do something good. Kuuga was when they focused on the characters and only on some toy stuff.

Silverquil really has a weird bizarre twisted sense of humor. He does not respected boundaries. I’ve lost track on how many times the princess of esqutira have filled restraining orders against that annoying chicken. I’m a hippo griff you stupid fox. I know that chicken little I’m just trolling.

The Grongi be like : "These hands are rated E for Everyone" also Godai is my most favorite or maybe the best MC in the entire Kamen rider series i like to see him as the reverse of souji tendo, if tendo is "the one who walked in the path of heaven" while Godai is "the one who guide others towards path of heaven" cause the way he sacrifice his own smile in order to protect a lot of people smile and being selfless unlike tendo (no offense for tendo, i still liked him)

Yusuke is definitely an interesting protagonist.

Kuuga my fifth rider season I watched (I believe it was after I finished Blade) this is season is my sixth favorite I don't remember. But anyway this show had me glued to my computer screen that I didn't want to stop watching. And the fact that it kick started the Heisei era is an understatement. The fandom seems to love this show that you have to take the deaths in this show seriously especially now because of gosh the bodies hit the floor so much it's depressing when you see it or just mentioning it. But even with that it didn't turn me off in fact it just made me want Yusuke to make the Groungi to pay. I honestly don't care that the Groungi had no character development because to be honest we know what they want so why should they be developed. As for the final battle with Dagava, I love that fight because it was all fists and nothing else and yes I cried.

Was it disappointing to every KR fans that Kuuga's other Rising forms and Amazing Mighty (only Rising Ultimate is use although it's exclusive to Decade) not used in Kamen Rider Decade? Maybe it's because Decade only lasted 31 episodes instead of the typical 48 to 50+ episodes, probably there was not enough time to add in Kuuga's Rising forms and Amazing Mighty, thus becoming the most underrated but still not forgotten.

Just finished my Kuuga watch today! It took me 3 and a half weeks to complete. All I can say is, Kuuga is a fantastic series, and very special. There are several aspects that I like here. Of rare bike stunts. The atmosphere is horror, calm, detective, and sometimes comedic. Memorable music and balanced pacing. But what stood out the most to me, were the characters. The show focuses heavily on character development. The ending is divisive, but I thought it was beautiful. Next stop on my watch: Kabuto.

Maybe he should appear a bit more in his human form. Just a bit. Daguva’s goal is simple: kill everything and everyone not just for the sake of it, but to also prove that humans are the real monsters. It’s very effective. He's the Joker of Kuuga.

After the last attempts to bring back Gavan, I'm good.

The kamen rider was good. The other characters are interesting in their own way. The Grongi I like how they actually killed people which shows they are a threat instead of most other Toku shows where they growl and stuff.I think they could have used more work and personality as they seemed a little simple and bland compared to other series. But was nice the whole reason for killing tho simple was fun they were just blood-thirsty beasts who want to kill. The music and effects were great. Good intro The episodes were nice. sad there were no specials

At some piont I will review Gridman considering Mill Creek sent me the Blu-Ray to review.

This is when the 21st Century and Y2K was an exciting year. The feeling of Rider returning is like Trek return in 1987 or Who returned permanently in 2005. Though it’s not completely perfect as Jo Odagiri’s interpretation of the hero comes off baffoonish and cheesy with the thumbs up. I am old school and I like my Riders to be serious and brooding in the traditions such as Takeshi Hongo, Kotaro Minami etc. The series is the return to dark horror theme and it has the Kolchak:Night Stalker feel to it. This is like the first Rider series to cut cost by shooting it on video(a homage to Toho tv series and Doctor Who’s 26 seasons). Though the fights are short and brief. It say what it needs to say. The biggest cheat was the battle that should have been both filmed and an ambitious two parter where Godai uses his Growing Amazing Mighty form to take on DaGuVa and show Kuuga’s defeat for dramatic purposes. Overall it isn’t completely perfect but it’s much better than some of the current series (Reiwa). Wish there would be more Rider series like Kuuga!!!

@@TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork unfortunately the truth is we have viewers that range from 4-12. Can’t afford to induce nightmares and parents complaints. There was blood and light gore in the series. Personally I Love It!!!

Is this basically your favorite rider and sentai duo then since both Kuuga and Time got a 5?

I don't know, it is fun, but it is slow. Not my 1st choice of recommendation for someone who knows nothing of kamen rider because the other series will just give them a tonal whiplash compared to what comes later. But I personally liked kuuga for being a modern kamen rider than is not full on gimmicky & actually not overly convoluted or overly philosophizing.

It's slow, but that is what makes it so good as it actually focuses on characters and not gimmicks. I miss the early Heisei days.

Godai And Daigo Are Best Friends Forever

My favorite episode is episode 28: Clarification, I thought the grongi murdering people in pools and the number they murder and where they murder being based on the notes and song do rai me was a really cleaver and interesting method and it ends with an awsome fight on the beach with kugga using dragon form (my favorite of his forms)

Just finished watching this series yesterday and did my last review on it. I agree it is a really good Kamen Rider Series. it is Odd in the 49 episodes the Words Kamen Rider were never said once.

I remember.

SO this series is hands down one of my favorites that I cannot seem to put on a list. And the other series i can compare is maybe Faiz and its cus of their heroes. Godai an unboundly optimistic person who wants to protect peoples smiles and the best bromance can ever enjoy watching. and Faiz with being a bit of the opposite but also has no qualms to fight when he is needed. and nothing is taken for granted or lightly when things get heavy.

Nyaa is going to be your best place. You can actually type in Sentai season 01 and it should pull up a batch file that will allow you to download everything up to this point. Same with kamen Rider.

Unfortunately, we have no idea when Kuuga is going to get a physical release since we have yet to hear from Shout Factory in that regard. Same goes with the original series and Ryuki as well.

You'll have to look that up for yourself. Basically you download UTorrent and then you go to a fansub site like Nyaa and download the Kamen Rider episodes through UTorrent.
