They really are amazing and unique. So different from what you find in the grocery store and that's assuming you can even find them!

Thanks for the comment. It's one of the tunes KZread has in it's library and it's just kind of stuck with us.

If you want fruit you need to cut all the suckers on the bottom. Make sure your fig has a single trunk not multiple ones.

I got a 'upside-down chandelier' shape Kadota -- about 20 trunks (suckers) -- we get 10 lbs fruit every other day

do you guys have a lot of losses do to ants? I'm loosing a lot of figs to ants and I don't know what to do about it. I hope you are fairing well with the monsoons, we took some minor tree damage with the high winds last night.

Hey David. Yeah, the ants are a constant battle. We've used tree tanglefoot in the past with very good success, but the organza bags do a fair job of keeping many of them at bay and we're not dealing with the sticky mess of the Tanglefoot. We're surviving the winds pretty well. Same as you with a few small branches needing to be removed and adding a couple of stakes to some of the 1 year old trees to keep them standing straight. Finally getting some rain though, so it's great to see and the trees LOVE IT!

Hi, Can you guys please make an update video on your Kadota fig tree? How does it look today? What are the pros & cons etc... Is it better than your Brown Turkey? In Terms of growth/production... I would love to see it. Thanks in advance! Gal

We'll have to give an update. This video was shot on our old farm, so we don't have access to the tree you're seeing here, but we do have a 3 year old Kadota on the new farm as well. I will say, the fruit has a VERY hard time ripening for us. We saw a few ripe fruits about a month ago and they were pretty good.

@@gtl6 The Brown Turkey is a much better option for us. The Kadota is a great growing tree, but the fruit doesn't ripen well. The Brown Turkey grows very aggressive and ripens fruit readily.

What temperature can they hold I live in Canada. I don't know if I can plant in the ground since we have winters here.. thanks

Hey Jim. I don't know the exact temperature, but these can survive down to about USDA Zone 5. Typically it's suggested to keep them in pots if you're below the hardiness zone and with figs it's very common for people to keep them in pots. Our experience with this variety is it tends to be very aggressive with it's root systems, so that may make it a little tougher to keep it happy in a pot. Some smaller varieties that might be worth considering are Black Jack, Violette De Bordeaux and Olympia. The Olympia fig was first cultivated in Washington state, so it's used to colder temps. Another one worth considering is Chicago Hardy. As the name implies, it's used to colder temps as well.

You never know until you try. The disappointed Italian immigrants were keeping them in the ground hey even Endzone for and just cutting the Deadwood every year

Can you help with moving a fig tree. I'm in central NJ and my Italian neighbor passed away. He used to share the fruit and the family said I could move it to my property. Can this be done and how?

Hey there Jay. Yes, you definitely can move a fig tree with a fair degree of success. You'll want to wait until the tree is dormant before making the move as this will decrease the stress on the tree. I'm going to link a video we did several years ago when we moved a quince tree on the old farm, so you can see how we did it. Have you ever had your Kadota figs produce ripe fruit?

Not much actually. The tree produces heavy, but very few fruit have ripened for us. From what I understand it's a matter of humidity. They do much better with higher humidity.

Hey John, great question. We actually have folks reach out to us all the time and ask that, so we should probably clarify that we don't currently sell fruit trees. We've had a lot of folks ask us to and we may in the future, but it's not on our business plan just yet.

Maybe you need "fig wasps" ?

Hey Rhonda. I know the wasps are needed to have fertile seeds, but from what I understand you shouldn't have any issues with fruit set/quality without them. But maybe that's not the case with this variety!
