@@neerGdyahS I think they're using an old rule of having disadvantage on all dex checks in heavy armor instead of just stealth rolls. An old DM I know still uses that rule.

is she like not proficient with heavy armor or something? because you only get disadvantage on stealth with medium or heavy armor unless you arent proficient. otherwise idk why matt keeps giving her disadvatage on all sort of checks, unless he just doesnt know that rule or just thought it would be appropriate for what she was doing at the time? dm's prerogative i guess...

Currently watching campaign 1 and the animated series and I’m enjoying both immensely. Only problem I have with the show is the amount of profanity. I’m cool with cussing but it’s so frequent and feels forced. Like they made the characters cuss more than they needed to. Otherwise very enjoyable.

That entire sequence is just perfect, Scanlan is still hitting on Pike but doing something super helpful as she would definitively get attacked by the monster otherwise, and then his dick joke is so good as matt set it up and he really just clarifies that he not just horny for Pike by making the joke... This is some hardcore amazing character development, I love it. I was always so happy when Pike just shut Scanlan down since he's more of a bad boy and her responsible woman, I just felt it would be awkward and out of character if they ended up together, but now... Scanlan is slowly winning me over.

This marks the first episode with the usage of "where a bunch of us nerdy ass voice actors get together and play dungeons and dragons".

From about Ep 6 onward it’s painfully clear how little patience any of them have for Acaba - Taliesin covers his face with his hands, Sam + Marisha actively lean away from him (esp. when he’s being loud), Laura verbally snipes at his long rambling turns, several visibly wince or eye-roll. Only Liam has any sort of game dialogue with Orion, and, more often than not, Travis interjects with something ridiculous or funny so as to defuse the tension.

3:47:56 Laura: "That's what I want to be if I die." Taleisin: "You wanna come back as a Tiefling? That'd be awesome." Two years later, they start the new campaign as tieflings.

Travis does great at portraying a violent killing machine, while also being cute and sweet.

The Creature puts half the party under a fear effect and Grog says, "hold my Grog" and uses terrifying presence to frighten the monster. I'm so late to this, no one will ever read it.

Wauw the tension between the group and Orion. I really feel everyone was so fed up with him and he was just acting so aggressive half way through the session when they were at the beach. Kinda want to get through the episodes with Orion quickly now. There was definitely some tension in this episode on a personal lvl. They played it off by reacting to it in character but you could clearly feel the 'wtf just calm down' attitude especially seeing Laura in character trying to calm Tiberius down.

Yeah im noticing the same thing and also how he hesitates to lie about his rolls under the guise of "im looking up numbers on the sheet" all the time and you see both marisha and sam kinda glance at the dice and sometime make a face for a second. I'm also kinda looking forward fow him to be gone because it kind of grabs all my attention when I watch and it pains me so much when he's always trying to kinda shove people aside when he wants to do something, doesn't wait to have the attention of the DM often cutting off people and also try to dial back once the outcome isnt the one he expected. I have a feeling this is the episode where it really starts showing and it gets worse until he leaves. It's a shame because without those interactions Tiberius could have been a great character for the series.

matt's comment in the beginning about his new DM cape @ 16:46 The team: "It makes your eyes pop!" Matt: "makes more than my eyes pop.." Marisha: glances down and raises a brow and smirks. It just makes me smile for some dumb reason.

You can tell when Liam gets a bad roll, he always brushed his hair behind his ear then looks down like a kid in trouble 😂

I love how Travis actually asks 'what a beholder is' keeping meta-knowledge outta in game. Wish more players were that conscious of their character vs player knowledge.

Lucien Clubb as annoying as his behavior was I honestly don’t think he was meta gaming all that much. He wasn’t paying attention and didn’t always know what was going on, and his temper and everything slowly got worse. This is all side effects of the meds he was taking as he was fighting cancer at the time. He was also fighting a drug addiction given his cancer I am just guessing but I am thinking pain killers and that can also cause a lot of his behaviors. I am not saying he wasn’t meta gaming at all I mean it’s obvious that he was. Just saying it wasn’t always what was going on many times he honestly had no idea what was happening and that led him to try and act on things he wasn’t aware his character hadn’t heard or couldn’t know.

@@NerdyAngel1989 He was also cheating dice rolls. I understand he was going through a tough time but some of the things he did to deal with that tough time were really scummy. When we are at our worst it reveals who we really are. Granted people can change and I hope he has changed for the better since then but he still has to make amends to those he hurt.

I attempted this with a bottle of regular Coca Cola... currently feeling the fizz in my nose, bottle is half empty and I’m nowhere near the end of the episode. I’d never try this with real alcohol (I’m a whiskey person) - I’d be dead before the ep finished.

As a Sorcerer main it is painful watching Orion abuse his character, seemingly ignoring spell slots to cast whatever he likes and chalking it all up to his ‘endless supply’ of sorcery points. Sure they have come over from Pathfinder to 5e and everyone gets things wrong now and again, but I wouldn’t want any part of playing with someone who does it on purpose like this. Live on the internet no less, how did he think no one would notice?!

From what I understand, they have talked to him about it, or they do in the near future. Plus, Orion is battling Cancer during these games but don't quote me on the exact timeline of his cancer treatments. And he was/became a drug addict which I suspect started from the pain management drugs given to cancer patients, normally some form of Fentanyl back then. I know all too well the effects of chemo and the true need of legally prescribed pain medications. It all affects one's mental processes. My 1 med has memory loss as a serious side effect that's likely vs rare. I learned to take that into account when playing any of my tabletop and Live Action RPGs. Lotsa notes & scrap paper to keep track during combat. I avoid primary caster classes. I have my husband next to me for any help I might need. And I make sure to always tell my DM/ST & fellow players to create an understanding that if *I* screw up something that my *Character* obviously/probably would not, I'd appreciate a little leeway in such things. But I refuse to abuse it. I also ALWAYS had my Players Handbook in front of me, made cheat sheets for spells & abilities, & a spellbook app on my phone. Orion could've done that. Tell his gaming group and, in this situation, tell the viewers as well. But I also think he's purposely abusing most things & cheating bc he wants to do cool shit. And I'm certain he's fudging his rolls & math.

@@donnasilvio3974 Oh, a million percent he's fudging rolls. On more than one occasion he rolls his die while Matt is busy doing something else, then he suddenly announces something like "I rolled 22 in Arcana to check out the magical artifact". Who wants to bet he just silently lets it slide when he gets a low roll? A shame too, because he clearly knows the mechanics of D&D and does great voices, and gets the occasional zinger.

@@mbg4681 yeah. After watching some not episodes where I'm really paying attention to him & cast's reactions to him where I even rewind to see it all lol. I'm almost certain he's never failed a roll or at least, since he can't know the diff on everything, he's never rolled low.

Ok but let’s take a moment to WORSHIP the entire descriptive scene of Mercer describing Scrying to Keylith. AMAZING DM work, and to no applause whatsoever. Man, what an incredible monologue!!

They all are very good at roleplaying their characters but i must say Travis playing Grog might be the best at playing the role of them all and best i have ever seen anywhere else.

Laura says don't use all your sorcerey points. Orion uses 5 to use telekenisis (57:56) and just look at her reaction with Liam. I think she says "why is he using all his points" Matt even glances at Laura when he says it. It is his character so he can play it how he wants, but it still shows how done with him they are

@@STNJ_YT from what I've hear (this is my first time watching) it gets a lot worst. Personally I'm finding some of the things he is doing very annoying, such as when they find Clarota. It's just the girls going off into this cave when everyone else agreed to to, including Orion, but then for some reason he is following them into the cave as if he was with them the entire time? That part rubbed me the wrong way. Also when something happens to another player he always seems to do something OP or tries to fix it when it really doesn't have anything to do with him. This might be a personal gripe but i also don't like that he uses his ability to sense arcane magic on literally everything they come across, even before the thing is fully described, often interrupting Matt in the process. I really don't think his that funny, just trying to put himself into every situation, even when he doesn't need to be.

@@Goat_Beans yeah, Sam made a really good point on making Nott/Veth feel "ugly". I think Sam's the best in incorporating his stats to his character work. Scanlan's high-Int, high-Cha, low-Wis really explains why Scanlan's just always clever and dumb at the same time.

Travis and Orion are polar opposites. Travis is the best kind of player. He pays attention when it's other people's moment and is genuinely happy to watch his friends play. Orion is the worst kind. Unless it directly involves him, he checks out. He only seems to be having fun when he is the "main character."

@@apowolf1340 Can’t remember if it was this episode or the previous one, but Orion hogged two magical items (which the party for the most part shares their items to whoever needs it before just taking it). And the whole Casting Silence on Vax while the party was trying to plan was completely unneccisary. Scanlan diffused the tension sure, but it’s just all these moments that keep adding up (like cheating with the spells and dice rolls, trying to take a Character Moment from Pike when her symbol cracked, etc) If anything having it spoiled that Orion eventually leaves the group over interpersonal conflict + other stuff outside dnd, I get an example of how NOT to play whenever I find a group to join

I can't tell if binge-watching this series is inspiring me to one day be a Dungeon Master or discouraging me that I'll never find a group this fun to play with. EDIT: I've since found several groups online over the years and am having a wonderful time! Every group is fun in their own way, so don't give up!

Be a dungeon master, go to game stores, advertise in facebook groups, talk to people at conventions. If necessary, run an online group, but it's more fun live. Don't compare your players to trained actors, just have fun with them.

@@Byakuyagaming That can be learned. Try your hand at a few premade adventures first. Practice reading aloud. Try describing things you see during the day to a friend. Use official campaigns, you don't have to homebrew your own world like Matt.

I love how delighted Liam always is whenever Mercer is doing sound effects or really good voices

@@diamondflaw I think you mean just 1d4. A one would be tossing it and having to wait two rounds for it to go off, two means it goes off next round, three means it goes off as they planned, and four requires a dex save for half damage as it goes off in their hand.

I'm really starting to see the tension a bit more this episode with Orion. I'm looking forward to the later episodes when he leaves to kind of remove that, it makes me uncomfortable 💀

I wish there was an auto orion mute function - I want to watch the episodes, but each time acaba opens his mouth (or touches his dice, or reaches across Marisha for food, or does more nauseating chewing...) I just want someone to shove a sock in his mouth, or slap him, or something...

Scanlan trying to work a compulsion on a DMPC, and a *Paladin* of all things, has got to be the most suicidal moves I have ever seen.

Is it weird that I miss them eating? like in the new campain they aren't so bold with it, they sneak stuff under the table now. I can understand why, but looking at them snack and play is like looking at my group when we get together lol noms and dice!

Man, it's so bittersweet to watch this several years after it aired, because you become so invested in this moment and feel really excited to be part of it all, but then you realise that this is all in the past and everyone has moved on a long time ago, and you can't interact. It's like looking at the stars in the sky and find them beautiful but also knowing that they probably don't exist any more and you're just looking at an echo of their once bright light. And you don't vant to skip ahead or find out where they are at right now because you don't want any spoilers.

His hair is behind his ears and that can give that impression and I haven’t seen him up close but I am guessing that like me his ears are slightly pointed. The point in my ears is much more noticeable when my hair is behind my ears or a hat or anything that makes my ears stick out a bit.

Marisha mentionned in a previous episode (I believe the one with the first Q&A) that Beholders are her favourite D&D monster. I wonder if Matt knew that. If he didn't, I wonder if it made him secretly all giddy knowing his big boss for that chapter of their campaign was his then-girlfriend's favourite monster.

@@sonnysinclair8271 It has not been completed as of yet, they are still making it. They had a literal record setting Kickstarter that got to like 1 million dollars. Not sure on a release date, but im pretty sure it will be on Amazon prime.

The twins that did the "1-2-3" count to toss a humanoid, screaming for safety, off their floating disk that likely could have supported that person, into a floor of skeletons eating away at bodies... Definitely a self-sacrificing mood (!) I know I know, I don't even use alignment in my campaign but... come on, not even chaotic neutral for that? XD

I mean, depends on how wide-ranging your interpretation of good is; a lawful good Paladin could torch an entire town (including children) with the right reason - say an incurable epidemic or creating the equivalent of a firebreak to a growing zombie/undead outbreak if evacuation/defence isn't an option - meanwhile a neutral evil person could risk life and limb to protect someone if said person was important enough to their goals. Ultimately, 'good vs evil' is often just a more extreme version of collectivism vs individualism and prioritising the wellbeing of the collective of their party over their individual inhibitions could be seen as a sacrifice for the greater good.
